You mean stories of breaking bread with the natives are BS? Who knew?
I suppose stories of colonial genocide are less palatable.

Oh, really... do we need to go down this rabbit hole?
Goat, why not post why this a National holiday?
*From Wiki:
The event that Americans commonly call the "first Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in November
1621. This feast lasted three days and was attended by 90 Native American Wampanoag people and 53 survivors of the Mayflower (Pilgrims).
Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, with a proclamation by President George Washington after a request by Congress.
President Abraham Lincoln (R), in 1863, proclaimed a national day of "Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens",
calling on the American people to also, "with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience ... fervently implore the interposition
of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation".
Lincoln declared it for the last Thursday in November. On June 28, 1870, President Ulysses S. Grant (R) signed into law the Holidays Act that made
Thanksgiving a yearly appointed federal holiday in Washington, D.C. On January 6, 1885, an act by Congress made Thanksgiving, and other federal
holidays, a paid holiday for all federal workers throughout the United States.
*I added the (R) next to the two presidents' names.
*on edit. Happy Thanksgiving, PLEASE!

Yes, the native americans partied with the immigrants!
The true story is a more interesting than the fictionalized story!stillnbaja - 11-23-2023 at 03:59 PM
seems everyone wants to claim the first thanksgiving (except those that want nothing to do with it) but I gotta go with historians that tell us it was
actually held at Alice's Restaurant.
Yes , Alice's is the account I'm going with., additionally a lot of people are sayin' the Pilgrims were major players...often 'till 8 in the morning.
True story.

I'll start; Oh Lord...won't you buy me...a Mercedes Benz....JZ - 11-23-2023 at 08:29 PM
We spent almost 10 straight Thanksgiving in Sonora or Baja. Didn't go this year with the kids in college.

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me
I wait for delivery each day until three
So, oh, Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?AKgringo - 11-24-2023 at 04:43 PM
I guess it wouldn't hurt to also pray for a night on the town..,,as long as I can still get to bed at a decent hour!RFClark - 11-24-2023 at 05:11 PM
AK,
Though some here will obviously disagree. The song is ironic as God answered her. “Mercedes Benz” was the last song Janas ever recorded. She died
3 days later in a hotel room on Sunset Blvd west of Fairfax Blvd. I actually was in the same room a few days later. It almost across the street from
where Belushi died.
AKgringo - 11-24-2023 at 05:28 PM
That would be too weird for me. If I have my facts right, her cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobbi McGee" was released after her death. It
was probably her greatest hit.surabi - 11-24-2023 at 07:05 PM

I fail to see what is "ironic" about a singer recording a song and dying of a heroin overdose 3 days later, or how "God answered her". You Christians
sure have some bizarre notions. Don Pisto - 11-24-2023 at 07:18 PM

DP,
Thanksgiving, I’m thankful that I don’t live next to either of you two or I probably would do H and OD!
As usual goat started it.AKgringo - 11-24-2023 at 08:57 PM
I'll take the blame for the Janice Joplin hijack. Alice's restaurant was a thanksgiving song, and thinking about it caused me to be thankful for
experiencing and enjoying the music and lifestyle of the 70s!RFClark - 11-24-2023 at 10:47 PM
AK,
What I’m really thankful for is surviving over 40 years in the entertainment business and not winding up like Janis and a lot of the others on both
sides of the camera.

the least you two hotrods could do is get her name right.....its Janis.
the least you two hotrods could do is get her name right.....its Janis.
I've never been called that before, but I have to admit that I always wanted one! I had a couple of muscle cars years ago, but never got to cruise
around in a hotrod. (or should it be hot rod?)
Anyway, thanks for the spellcheck. (or should that be spell check?)
