Ricky Brabec keeps increasing his lead after stage.
Now in first pace by 20' 53"

So so awesome!!!

Ricky won Dakar (the first American to ever) just months after traveling with us in 2019 (on the Trail of Missions Recon):

I was wondering how long it would take for news of the Dakar to show up here. I have been watching a number of segments that popped up on my youtube page all last week without me looking for them. I guess big brother knows me well. haha

Those huge trucks making it through and over the dunes are amazing.

Good on Ricky for hanging in there near the top of the bikes. 2nd place maybe.

The Dakar classic is a hoot.

Now on to the second and final week! These competitors are made of some tough stuff. I can't imagine, for my self anyway, putting my body through what these iron men and women do.

The beauty of the Saudi Arabian landscapes are uniquely beautiful. So is Baja for that matter.

With Audi's E-trons leading the pack, I wonder how long it will take for Elon to give it a go. Some egos know no bounds.

Now back to the show. Thank you YouTube. And Nomad.

Ricky is #1 at the end of Stage 10 !!!

From FishGistics:

This is most likely a first for the Dakar Rally! The American boyfriend/girlfriend couple of @rickybrabec and @sarapricemx BOTH won their stage today!! That’s the first Dakar stage win for first time Dakar racer @sarapricemx and the first stage win this year for @rickybrabec 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Ricky is still sitting in the lead overall and Sara is second overall in her class. 2 stages to go!! #dakar2024 #fishgistics

I thought Saudi arabia did not allow women to drive.

I have been to saudi once, but will not go again, seems wrong to visit there since they have such abominable human rights record and that murderous MBS guy in charge…

There are even Saudi women in the race, goat. It isn't 1937 anymore.

Still made the podium
Bikers are nutzo

Seems like more a a hybrid than pure electric

thebajarunner - 1-20-2024 at 11:06 AM

As you may know, this otherworldly off-roader features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (from an Audi DTM racecar) acting as a generator for the battery pack that supplies power to the electric motors driving each wheel (in a similar fashion to the new Ram 1500 Ramcharger). Total system output is as high as 670 horsepower, but sheer grunt is not what made the difference.

Exactly right! It makes its own electricity to charge the battery.
That is exactly what all EVs should have gone to, first (Elon, you hear me?)!

PaulW - 1-21-2024 at 03:37 PM

Battery is charged both by the ICE generator and the three MGU units at the wheels.
Very trick IMO. When wheels do not need power or are coasting but are turning then they charge the battery at the same time the ICE generator does.
Battery size is optimized to be adequate for all teh various stages.
Yup, it is a hybrid not an EV

Audi is the first car manufacturer to use an electric drivetrain in combination with an energy converter at the Dakar Rally......time to move on to F1, maybe junior will be the pilot?
