The raffles hotel. I've had drinks there on dozens of occasions. The first was 1971 whilst on r&r from Vietnam. Later during many Singapore
layovers. The birthplace of the Singapore Sling.

My wife her sister and I stayed there for a week in the late 80s. When checking out we had a good laugh at the bill. The Singapore Slings really added

My total Asian experience is limited to South Korea, from Seoul north to the DMZ, and an R&R to Tokyo and surrounding areas. That was in 1969, so
I have no idea what it is like now.

Never had high tea,but had breakfast there many times.i recall it was really cheap for a first class meal. the company I worked for used the Sheraton
around the corner on Nathan blvd.

Not tea there but got very drunk at the bar. Kowloon was off limits to Navy in 1959. Took me 30+ years later to get there.

Looks like the type of old colonial place tourists visit because they saw it in an old b&w movie, or rick steves mentioned it as a must-see for
pensioners on vacation.

I got really sloshed in the Tiger Bar at the hotel. What a tourist I was drinking Singapore Slings and paid the price with a huge hangover the next
day. They say it’s named the Tiger Bar because they had to shoot tiger there that snuck in. The Raffles also has a great history when the Japanese
during WWII took it over and the employees buried all the silver to they wouldn’t be used by the troops.
I stayed there around 1993 before the fancy remodel and the price was around $125 and I heard that it is 5 to 10 x that now. Each room had the names
on the door of the famous people who stayed on that room.
The place reeked of history and was a real highlight to the trip.

In 1971 the raffles was a run down single story building on the edge of the jungle As i remember. It got the Disneyland makeover in the 80s...as i
recall ...it was a long while back.

We aren't staying there Howard. It looked like it was $1,000 or more per night the last time I looked.
