Anyone helped a Mexican get a US Visa?

JZ - 4-23-2024 at 11:08 AM

My friend is working on getting one for himself and his family. He is a boat captain, with a captain's license. He just got MX passports for everyone. Not sure if his main client is paying IMSS or not.

He is talking to a guy in Guaymas who advises others on the visa process.

Anyone have any advice/info? Looking forward to him visiting us in the US. Want to show him the places we go to on the Pacific.

Friends from TJ and Ensenada have tourist visas or 10 year cards for usa. They just apply and get, they dont use consultants. Applicants need paperwork that gives usa confidence the applicant is a tourist and not intent on staying.

No one needs help to get a visitor's visa unless they're illiterate. They fill out the visa application and submit it and either get approved or not. Can't imagine why it wouldn't get approved unless someone has a criminal record or the US suspects they are going to try to work in the US.

What on earth does IMSS have to do with a visitor's visa?

he needs a mexican passport....
he needs a "correct" biiiirth cert to get that

after the app is onliine
it has to be filled out without errors

2 appointments necessary
one for pictures and fingerprints
one for the visa interview

visa is inserted in the passport and is good for 10 yrs

he'll need to talk about his family and work in mexico
and what he needs the visa for... ie shopping and visiting

no work

FYI IMSS is paid by employers for employees. A boat captain is probably not his main client's employee- if he has his own boat he captains that people charter, he is the business owner and would be an independent contractor.

one day for mex passport ... pick up that afternoon if you get a morning appointment
you need pics and application ready
lots of places near passport center

you make the appointments online for the pics and fingerprints for usa
that is one day

interview is one day
pick up mex passport and visa inserted the next day at the embassy

no public parking at embassy take a taxi

Takes about 1 to 2 months between application and interview. Though I think each interview location has different wait times for appointments.

remember after you get the visa...

if you travel over 25 miles north you need an "I90"
its about 10-15 bucks and lasts a yr

get then in secondary at the border office if you dont fly
visa is NOT enough

sometimes better to walk across get the i90 then go back and drive across... border people have a system
