Bio: Mike Houck, Director of the Urban Greenspaces Institute (www.urbangreenspaces.org), has worked on local, regional, and national urban park and greenspace issues since 1980 when he founded the Urban Naturalist Program at the Audubon Society of Portland, Oregon

He is co-founder of The Intertwine Alliance (www.theintertwine.org) which is dedicated to creating a world class park, trail, and natural area system for the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan region.

Mike, a native of Portland, Oregon, graduated from Estacada Union High School in 1965; received his B. S. in Zoology at Iowa State University in 1969; and M. S. T. in biology from Portland State University in 1972. He was a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, 2003-2004.

His travels in Baja are currently limited to three trips, 1977, 1999 and 2004, but he intends to rectify the long absence from the peninsula soon to visit friends and high school classmate in Mulege. One of his favorite books, Log From The Sea of Cortez, inspired his desire to spend more time on the peninsula.
