BAJA SPELL CHECKER... Why?

 Pages:  1  2

thebajarunner - 4-22-2012 at 01:35 PM

Been away for a few days in Dallas (no passport needed, but I did have to have a visa)

Anyway, I think we plowed this field, ran this track, ground this topic -----

like last year????

Are we out of fresh material ( at long last??)

Is the correct spelling so important to go through this. Obviously the detractors don't find it very important. So it's like rubbing a sore over and over. Where's the pleasure. Or is that the pleasure. Isn't the point to enjoy reading info on this website.

Then there are those who say don't look. I always get a kick out of that. Because those that say it, looked at your response and responded. So how am I to respond to don't look. In the same way - don't look at my response to the response you don't think I should look. It's absurd. It is safe to completely ignore such an admonition. And yet it's so common.

[Edited on 4-22-2012 by Skipjack Joe]

Gee wiz, I was just offering free geography here and because of mostly CortezBlue, I decided to explain WHY...

Read the first post I made... It explains it all... For Diana T and others to 'read' more into it, that isn't the case... For Igor, I explained why... I don't care if a few don't like that I try and show the correct spelling... A loss for them, perhaps.

It is about learning and fun! That's all!!

If you don't want to have fun, why go to Baja, why be on Baja Nomad??

Okay amigos? Chill out and have a great day!

Can you just answer the question?

Is that it? You just don't care? You don't care that you're rubbing that sore over and over. Why?

Can you try to reconsider?

[Edited on 4-22-2012 by Skipjack Joe]

I have been slapping my hand. I am starting to feel guilty. He is enjoying it way too much and I am just being an enabler to his masochistic behavior.

DavidE - 4-22-2012 at 03:56 PM

cannt you guys get a long? If you cannt get a long then try to get a short. Or a life. Or something. This is freakin' poisoning this forum.

David K - 4-22-2012 at 05:24 PM

I love you all... and so what if spelling Guerrero Negro or Puertecitos correctly is what this thread IS about... yet, you see how politics got brought up?

The needs of the many outweight the complaints of the few:light:

If you don't need it, then go to another thread, it is that easy!! Nobody is making you do things my way here!

Don't let what I like to post on Nomad BOTHER YOU! I am NOT trying to upset anyone... I am only trying to teach, it is what I enjoy doing... and learn more, while doing it.

So far, I have learned that no matter what I say or how I say it, a FEW of you HEAR it differently!?!

I am not playing with words, no guessing if IS means IS... Just exactly what I typed in the opening post is what I was conveying (or trying to convey).

Thanks to TheBajaRunner for the link to a thread I did on Baja spelling, IN 2003!! :light:

Because we are still spelling places 'Guerro Negro', 'Puertocitos', 'Alphonsina's', 'Los Barilles', 'Santo Thomas', etc. there is obviously Nomads who haven't read that thread... New people here every day... and just MAYBE a few of them would like a polite heads-up on the right spelling.

I have never, never been negative or rude to anyone if I did reply with the correct spelling... However, as you don't see my face or hear my voice here, maybe you hear it as a negative or rude... Sorry if you do, that is NOT me! Ask the many Nomads who spent any time with me, if I am a jerk... I think (hope) at least 9 out of 10 Nomads have an okay opinion of me!:D

Now, again have a nice day... okay? (or for Canadian Nomads: okay, eh?)

Barry,

You look at Romney and see right away that he's not like you and me. Coiffered and aloof you realize that he belongs to a class that is so distant. No one can relate to his way of life.

I think that's going to hurt him. Despite his platform. Despite coming from wealth Bush prided himself in his simplicity. His idea of a vacation was fishing his bass ponds. Although often embarassing I think the public liked this.

Anyway, I think Romney needs to work on his image. Only - no Romney riding a tank promos.

I am withdrawing from this thread as I have taken it terribly astray and off it's intended topic.

Spell Check

Gypsy Jan - 4-22-2012 at 05:40 PM

If you want to use old vernacular, it,s spelled, "Gee Whiz!"

Also, Romney is a fail because the middle class doesn't trust him and women really do not like him.

Stop the teaching. Aside from the arrogance we all know the lesson. Teach something new. Something significant.

It's true. You are never rude.

You know your behavior is remarkably like ramuma's. A man you detest. Of course I can't even think to compare your motive with his.

David K - 4-22-2012 at 06:08 PM

See, here is a perfect example of how I am not able to communicate to some, the way I do it... Help me Barry, Runner, Tripper (and others that understand me better)

I am not being a liar, Igor... You either don't care for my sharing here or you just like to be confrontational maybe? I don't think so or hope not... but don't call me a liar when you don't understand my posts here.

rts551 - 4-22-2012 at 06:11 PM

Why can't you do like most forum members. Offer photos, trip reports, experiences and QUESTIONS without all the other baggage.

paranewbi - 4-22-2012 at 06:20 PM

Please David K ...don't do like rts551 suggests...do not be like most of the 'other ones'. They don't do what he says they are...it's all a put on.

Skipjack Joe - 4-22-2012 at 06:21 PM

I apologize David,

I just reached my limit somehow and can't take it much longer.

You understand my objection and choose to ignore it. As you say, you don't care. You haven't answered questions directly and pick and choose to fill your agenda. You are incapable of change, preferring to assume that there are conspiracies against you. How convenient it is to not accept things at face value.

No more from me. I should never have taken the trouble.

O.K. Time to lighten up, folks

thebajarunner - 4-22-2012 at 06:25 PM

Heck, I even made peace (piece?) with Dennis a while back,
nice private exchanges and all.
So, David can be a little over the top at times,
but no one, absolutely no one, has brought more good info, history, mapping, etc to the site than DK.

So, take him with a grain of salt, or tune him out if you think his work is not helpful, but meanwhile name calling should go back to the school yard tomorrow when the children are back in school.

Someone beat me to it,
but in the immortal words of Rodney King,

"Can't we all just get along?"

David K - 4-22-2012 at 06:26 PM

I guess... whatever Igor... I am just having fun sharing some facts and history/ geography about Baja... THAT'S IT.

I don't know why you and Ralph are trying to read other motives into it... I also did not mean to ignore any questions, they must have gotten lost in the blur of anti DK stuff. Send me a u2u if you have a question I didn't answer, if you wish. I am not ignoring you, I just thought I answered it already with what I typed... My bad, perhaps?

Spelling a Baja place correctly isn't a crime, and neither is spelling it wrong! Telling you why I try and help here shouldn't be a crime either... yes?

Ateo - 4-22-2012 at 06:34 PM

I can't wait to go to waduhluhara next month and take a break from Baha drama.:lol::lol:

Yeah, I'm new here....figured I didn't know the whole story.

David K - 4-22-2012 at 07:15 PM

That is not really the whole story, but whatever... I am not hyper critical, but what floors them, is that when they post their agenda (liberal) here, I am not affraid to offer another side (libertarian or conservative).

It is hyper rare for me to ever START a political thread.... What is common is that I respond, and it is only to show another view on the subject, not to put anyone down. The goal of the left is to silence any opposition, so the masses only hear their side... Why else the put down of Fox News, Consrvative Radio, etc.? If they were truly an open-minded group with free speech in mind, they would welcome all sides and let the people decide.

Thing is - I don't consider myself to be one of the others. I just understand them and pick up their banner. Then I end up on my own.

I just heard on one of the Radio sites that will remain a secret that 1 in 30 in the USA has a clinical mental problem, most mild but some serious, and each manifests itself in strange ways. So, tolerance is not only desirable, but absolutely necessary in this rapid communication era that we now find ourselves in to just get along, let alone actually communicate effectively with each other.

Makes sense, to me, anyway.

I think somebody said, "can't we just get along?"

Barry,

They are continuously narrowing what is normal. Mental problems were considerd personality traits. Winston Churchill had ADD. Albert Einstein was autistic. I've been painfully shy all my life. Stagefright at piano concerts. Scared of my students. Now I read it's some sort of social neurosis. I think things are going to far. How do you define normal.

sancho - 4-22-2012 at 07:58 PM

A few here find DK's delivery slightly abrasive,
a quote comes to mind, not many of us here 'could
carry his jockstrap' regarding experience and knowledge
of at least the northern half of the Peninsula,
everyone has a different tenor

The software references Greenwich Mean Time for edit timestamps.

Barry A. - 4-22-2012 at 08:04 PM

I am not sure there is any "normal" anymore, like you say.

For me, I try to stay on top of any particular "condition" by just admitting to myself that it is temporary, and I will feel different later---------and it always turns out true.

I find that amazing, but truly comforting, and enables me to maintain some semblence of sanity, I believe. (and I often think I am going insane).

Funny you should mention that. While he may not have invented it, Al Gore did have much to do with its development:

initiative in creating the Internet."
.

Inventing and creating sound so similar. It's understandble. A very poor choice of wording by Mr Gore. He was more of a promoter. No wonder the right is laughing. Nobody is interested in the details above. The phrase says it all and that's what's so damaging. Just my opinion.

When I worked for Digigtal Equipment Corp back in the 90's we were invited to the White House Lawn to demonstrate the first Roadrunner Cable Modems and he, Mr. Gore, was in attendance. There were several internet companies in demonstrating products, including ATT, Cox etc. Al Gore didn't have a clue about the internet or the technology behind it was about. Also, for historical facts, the internet is a direct decedent of ARPANET, the governments private intranet.

PS, I would not expect Al Gore, Bill Clinton or George Bush to be knowledgeable about the internet or the technology behind it.

Jeez, I lost my jockstrap decades ago in the wilds of the Ocote Biosphere in
Chiapas. Never forget the time I changed my pants in front of some Tzotzil men working in an amber mine. The boxers were bright red with red trim and they almost fell down, laughing. Getting back to jockstrap humor, try descending the grade down from the Desolation Wilderness to Emerald Bay (Lake Tahoe) on horseback. Made me question God's choice of my gender more than once.

He's great about posting about a place he been to once or sharing a map that he has plagiarized.
DK doesn't spend much time down south 3-4 trips per year usually goes to the same places(read his reports). Many of us prefer to filter our info, to those that can be trusted not "F" it up.
I think that this is one of the few places David get to shine. He has made it so. Good for him.:lol::lol:

Hmmm... How many times did the votes need to be recounted... ??

As many as it took to get Algore the win (like Al Frankin's election)?

The Supreme Court stopped the recounting after two times it showed that Bush won... America needed to move on.

The chad thing was just so embarassing.. like are people in Florida really that stupid (the way the media made them to be)? How insulting. I don't think so...

DavidE - 4-23-2012 at 07:47 PM

Josefina Vázquez Mota, or Enrique Pena Nieto

Are THE ONLY Candidates THAT SHOULD MATTER on this forum

Or, should this forum be renamed GRINGOLANDIA NOMADS?

Los estados de Bajas Californias fueron lo mejor de mi parte el conocimiento de México. Discutir la política gringos aquí es como Brasilians discutiendo sobre qué cultivo se desarrollan mejor en Groenlandia

That list (Agenda?) of (I am guessing here), the "left", is really alarming and scary-------but no surprise to me. It reconfirms my Conservative inclinations, for sure, and my voting habits. No way do I want to live under the results of THOSE phylosophies!!!

Barry, that is an agenda the RIGHT would like everyone to think is the agenda of the LEFT and it has NO basis in reality---NONE

I hope you really don't believe it.

Well, I am on "the right" (I use to be a 'centrist') and I don't want to believe the left is really on an agenda like this, but it is hard to believe when I keep hearing things either very similar too, or exactly as stated above, from commentators and guests on MSNBC, The New York Times, and elsewhere.

What do you guys expect us to believe??

I sure hope Diane and SkipJack are right, tho.

Can you be more specific? I can't think of anytime I have heard any of these things from MSNBC or read them in the New York Times unless it was perhaps a letter to the editor.

If these things are really being promoted, I seriously would like to know who is promoting them and when? ?????

I have heard commentators on Fox promote the idea that the left is promoting some of these things---but they never seem to have specifics. It is a little like O'Reilly calling Robert Reich a Commie which is really absurd and just taken out of thin air.

It was fun to watch two good friends, Robert Reich and the former Republican Senator, Alan Simpson in a discussion and the one thing they really agreed upon was that they don't recognize the Republican Party anymore. Simpson was always considered one of the most conservative senators, and as he said, he would not be accepted by the people now running the party. It would be nice to see the old GOP back.

On edit--- I am sure there is someone some where who would support one or some of these items listed, but it is not a part of any mainstream left agenda. It would be like saying that the KKK is a part of the Right Wing agenda because there are some far out fringe Right Wingers who really support the KKK agenda. If I read it correctly, I believe this would be one of the warts Igor mentioned.

Diane said, "I have heard commentators on Fox promote the idea that the left is promoting some of these things---but they never seem to have specifics. It is a little like O'Reilly calling Robert Reich a Commie which is really absurd and just taken out of thin air."

-----it's a joke, Diane, and O'Reilly does this all the time-----it is part of his schtic (sp?). I hear Bob Reich almost every weekday on THE KUDLOW REPORT (CNBC 4pm PDT weekdays) make statements that are so far left that he SOUNDS like a "Commie", to Conservatives, anyway.

We all hear what we want to hear, but no, I don't have any specifics of who I hear say or write things like that "list" (maybe Paul Krugman? or Rohn Emanuel?)-----it is probably more of a perception than anything else, but still it seems real to us, unfortunately. I do listen to MSNBC when my wife is away-------no way can I get away with it when she is home. :o

I am not sure if you are questioning the idea of Simpson and Reich together, but this is what we watched on TV

Notice in the Montery Paper of their Appearance Together

And one of the things they really enjoyed talking about was how they became such good friends during the Clinton Era and often had lunch together----they disagreed about a lot of things, but they were friends --- that was pre- tea party when the word compromise was not a dirty word. Hatch and Kennedy were VERY close friends.

And scaring the heck out of people is how christianity has convinced people there is a devil.

Still waiting for some specifics on from where this agenda came from, or was it one that DavidE made up in his own mind?

Barry, are people on the far right inclined to think those things and be quick to accept such a thing as reality because they have been scared to death? Than the right-wing propaganda machine has done its job well. Seeming real and being real are way different things.

I like and respect both Simpson and Riesch-------I would have loved to see that discussion.

Yes, Diane, I am scared-------mostly of what I see happening around me in peoples attitudes and expectations. I am convinced that what many (most?) people appear to "want" is impossible to provide---------no Country can afford it and still keep prospering and growing---in fact decay is the result, of both our Country and our young people. And what the various legislatures want to "cut" in the way of spending is far-and-away the WRONG things to cut-------teachers, fire fighters, police, infrastructure, defense, etc., the traditional things that only Govt. can do. We can only survive IMO if we cut drastically the entitlements that previous Legislatures have enacted over the many years, and clean out corruption--------PERIOD. All else is just windowdressing to me. The National Debt. is totally out of control and THAT is unexceptable!!!!

All the other stuff that the Main-stream Media more and more provides is just mis-leading hype, half-truths, skewed perceptions, and unproductive & silly intertainment, IMO, and does more harm than good---------and "the people" just suck it up getting more and more disgusted and angry and confused.

Not good. And NONE of this has anything to do with David K. and correcting spelling errors, but it is a lot more important!!!

I might add, that to be really picky about spelling one would need to use the Spanish accent marks, ñ, and ü where needed. So, to not be so hard nosed, I don't use (often) or consider the lack of accent marks.

I certainly agree with a number of your points! Shoot, in part of it, you sound like a progressive! There are other points with which I disagree---- you sound like you could still be a part of the old and gone GOP.

Corruption? Yes, way too much of that. How do you feel about the money in politics, the idea of Citizen's United? That I believe is one of the major causes of a government out of control---a government simply controlled by special interests; the special interests with mega bucks. Where the money comes is not disclosed, and again, this affects all sides. And I wonder if real election reform will be possible in the near future as too many politicians are enjoying too many perks.

News? My very favorite news we only get when we travel and that is CNN International. It is a place where one can actually hear about the rest of the world! You mention that what you are calling the Main Stream Media spins and gives out half-truths that make people disgusted, angery and confused. I am not sure about whom you are speaking. Do you think that Fox actually just reports?

You would have enjoyed Simpson and Reich.

Diane-------Not familiar with "Citizen's United"---don't know their agenda, but assume they are Righties!?!?!?

How can I, as a male, NOT watch Fox News?????? Tho they slant towards Conservative, and they admit that all the time, I think that their coverage is good to very good, as is CNN (love CNN International, but don't get it with my Cable). PBS news is slanted left, but they are also pretty good, and they cover subjects in depth that the other's don't. I watch (& record) a LOT of CNBC, but don't get Fox Business, darn it. I also watch MSNBC tho it drives me up the wall--------normally watch Cris Mathews on HARD BALL as he is a kick, even tho an admitted leftie.

That about covers it.

Fox News------------beautiful correspondents, smart, well educated, funny, opinionated, and very very sharp in every way!!!! and I like their news presentations. Oh, and the men are good, too.

Good luck, DK, getting this thread back on topic.

I think a lot of folks are just lazy about the spelling, foreign or homeland, of place names. Having been an educator, spelling and grammar are important to me—syntax, too, for that matter. An internet forum is not, at least not this one, a haven for professional writers, so perhaps one has to be a bit more tolerant of orthography.

WOW...if you press 'alt' and start with 1 on the key board to the right (notice there is no keyboard to the left!...for those who pirated this thread). alt+1= whity smiley face, alt + 2 = political correct opposite, alt+3-6=the cards in a deck!

DK led me to seek out on my own...what an inspiration!

Just can't watch Nancy Grace, just can't do it. McLaughlin is definitely not the person he used to be! He should have retired.

Barry, Citizen's United is a very recent Supreme Court Decision --- check it out. But the fact that you do not know what it is, is very telling about what Fox has NOT reported on. It is a major decision that is affecting this political campaign season big time.

Nancy Grace...

EnsenadaDr - 4-24-2012 at 03:17 PM

Nancy Grace doesn't pull any punches...I love her show. Can't wait till I have time to sit down and watch more TV. Sometimes understanding the background on someone gives you an insight...she lost her fiancee to a sniper when she was a young lawyer and became a Prosecuting DA. Just like Obama losing his mother to ovarian cancer and watching her suffer, I might not like certain people but can empathize with them when I know their background.

Yes, I am aware of her background and while I can very much emphasize with her and what happened, I don't see how that should give insight that might make someone like her style? I just can't seem to follow that.

For her, it is good that you and others like her show or she would not be on the air. She does have a following and fans.

OK, this will shock everyone I'm sure.

I like Michael Savage. Although I detest the influential Rush Limbaugh, I like Michael Savage.

But it's not how you think it is. It's not what he says but how he says it.

Perhaps it's that Brooklyn attitude. I just think he's the most gifted orator of them all. Plus it all seems to be original. When you flip the channels it's the same everywhere. Perhaps on television he would be a failure but on the radio he's good.

P.S. I don't like the albino on CNN. Only his mouth moves.

Haha, a closet Savage fan! I used to listen to him from time to time, not agreeing with his politics very often, but there was a certain comedy and anger that I could relate to. I liked hearing about his boat. But I turned him off over his hatred of gays, plus I bought an iPod and found podcasts were way better than terrestrial radio and the thousands of commercial breaks they take.

rts551 - 4-24-2012 at 04:10 PM

Actually I listen to both Limbaugh and Savage. I occasionally watch Fox news.

It is important to try and understand what they are saying and decipher why people listen to them. In a courtroom, where facts are required they would never make it. They play upon people's insecurity and prejudice. They prey upon people who are not aware of the world around them.

I listen because I want to understand what they are saying to stir people up. The difference is I go back and try and substantiate their claims (which most of the time can not be done).

a quote brought up recently from R. Reagan,

Trees cause pollution" is a stupid concept foisted upon the public in 1981 by U.S. President Ronald W. Reagan. The full quote of his statement was, "Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do."[1]

"Trees polluting" & Reagan-------I think he was referring to the CO2 he thought was emitted by "trees", considered a "pollutant" by some, and a sarcastic humorist statement at best by Reagan (which he was known for---like Alan Simpson). Unfortunately he got it wrong as trees emit O2, I believe. Most lefties have scant humor in their psychi (sp?) it would seem, and are incredibly unforgiving of Republicans mistakes or gafs (tho they forgive everybody else ).

All those other folks you mention???? Love em, but some are more lovable than others. Nixon's personality left me cold, but one smart dude. (check it out) Like many "smart" people, he was ignorant in certain areas, brilliant in others. Heck, I even like Clinton (Bill, not Hillary), but his politics are "out there" which his latest book "BACK TO WORK" just illustrated. Read every word, and it changed my whole favorable attitude towards him. He is a sincere loony-leftie too, apparently!!! helping out "the cause". I partially blame Hillary for that!!!

Don't be fooled---- I am a commited Conservative to my bones, but I hope a "reasonable" Conservative, and not a right-wing loon!!! (tho you have to move-right to offset the radical-left)

(Sorry DK, we have totally ruined your thread)

Glenn Beck today. Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated our government to the point that all Middle East Ambassadors are really just conduits for the president (who is really a Muslim) to radical Islamic extremist organizations.

I didn't have to try and verify this one.:no:
