noche toledana

Today's Spanish Word of the Day from Transparent Language is the expression noche toledana, which they translated "sleepless night." I found it particularly interesting because the literal translation is "night in/of Toledo." I was last there in '73, so long ago that I don't remember how I slept the night I was there!

Seriously, WordReference prefers "sin poder dormir" or "en blanco: as translations for "sleepless." Anecdotally I'm seeing "en vela" for sleepless, and "transnochada" or "desvelada" for sleepless night. What is the most common expression used in Mexico, and specifically Baja?

I've heard my in laws and friends in Baja describe their restlessness at night using desvelado. Como anoche no pude a dormir estaba muy desvelado.

The many Spanish words you mentioned for sleepless, at least to me, are examples of the beauty and depth of the Spanish language in comparison to English. My 2 cents.

I totally agree about the beauty, richness, and versatility of the Spanish language - from country to country and even region to region. Thanks for your reply!
