Maybe if Doug updates this site, it can blossom again?

You honestly think it's the medium that's the problem?

Personally, I think it's the disrespectful environment.

A platform upgrade isn't going to change that, and at this point it'd be a waste of effort without a subtantial policy change.

The heyday of BN were the years of JR Baja/Ski Baja.

And he wasn't the most polite person in the World. Lol.

FB, Covid, and people getting old hurt BN. I haven't posted on FB since 2006.

It does take maturity to be respectful and able to ignore insults from those who are not mature. Oh well, I hope to still see trip reports here and historic site discussion.

So start a post. When was your last Baja trip and where did you go?

pauldavidmena - 6-25-2026 at 09:11 AM

In fairness, it can get pretty quiet in Baja during the summer months. My wife and I visited Todos Santos in July 2013 to see if we thought we could handle hotter weather there. Our casita didn't have air conditioning, but fortunately we were close enough to the ocean to get some nice breezes, and ceiling fans took care of the rest. Downtown Todos Santos was very quiet, but enough places were open to make it feel welcoming while also much more relaxing than during the peak season.

Various know-it-alls, frequent posters who don’t actively travel to Baja, these don’t contribute to attracting others.
Post trip reports and experiences….

My last baja trip was 20 years ago.... Still here.

The world has changed since this site came online. The internet has changed. Social media has gobbled up the relatively small share of "Baja" topics online. Phones are what people spend time on these days. Attention spans have shrunk.

Baja Nomad members have literally been passing away and cannot post anymore. New members are run away by rude know it alls. This site is no longer conducive to growth. Are 20 year olds posting on here? 40 year olds? It was a fun run though........met some fantastic people here:

Blanca
Shari
Terry28
Woody
Soulpatch
And many others........

My last trip was to check the progress of our future property in Ensenada area and go to the dentist.

Next one is to the Cape.

Life is a series of deaths......next chapter is now.

Go get it!

That is what Baja has always symbolized to my small brain........=)

20 year olds are mostly in the two general FB groups - Talk Baja and Talk Baja Road Conditions. Plus, local groups, a dead-end town like BOLA alone has 2 or 3 groups. 20 year olds are tourists, transients, dropping in and out with quick posts that, let's say, don't give or generate much food for thought in a stable gathering like this one. Short attention span is inseparable from FB, I don't know whether the platform is inciting it or attracting this particular type of users. Zuckerberg created FB in his teen years as a gathering place to exchange photos, posts and profiles from yearbooks, and it shows. Meaningful discussion of anything is impractical because of FB lame structure. 2/3 of the screen width is taken by images and shortcuts, lack of sub-sections and poor view of a thread, some comments you can see, some other show as the number of comments, in no particular order ex. newer to older, even if you set it. I still believe that FB promotes short attention span and lack of thinking :).
One thing Mark got right - built-in translator.

Agreed. I don't have an account for some of these reasons above. Zuck needs enlightenment. =)

I own house in Baja. It seems if I give my report some one does not like it and has a negative opinion. This site was so good to me . Now I dont really need it.

AguaDulce - 7-7-2026 at 04:35 PM

So many negative people
