Anonymous Posters

jrbaja - 8-16-2005 at 10:32 PM

Let's try this. Since the beginning, there have been a few anon postings that are valuable but usually they are used in a negative way. I seriously doubt that losing them will change the board in any way but a positive one. But, that's just me.
And, as much as I don't like this crap, it's only fair.

Whatchall think?

Sorry for the confusion, I'm new at polls. Yes means that you are ok with the anon postings, No means no more anonymous postings. But, seems like I screwed this poll up anyways. Oops!

Is this a poll

Seems straight enough but sorry Jr, I just think polls here serve no real purpose, especially as of late.. It's just more fodder for them to use elsewhere. Who needs more of the same.

JZ - 8-16-2005 at 11:01 PM

I was for them until recently. But recently, there have been many more and they are used to attack mostly.

Ban them, with the exception of posting news stories about MX (which for whatever reason are always posted by annons today).

JZ - 8-16-2005 at 11:03 PM

JR: what does yes and no mean in your poll, it is not straight forward. Does yes mean they should stay or be banned. More details in the description please.

OLDFEZZYWIG - 8-17-2005 at 05:34 AM

Of all the posters running this poll wouldn't you know it . Well if it isn't the biggest attack artist of them all .Who has probably ran more nice people off the board than anyone else or made them go ANON so they would not have to hear your hatred spewed at them . Thanks JR I needed a good laugh today .

Diver - 8-17-2005 at 05:43 AM

Anon's - use a name or be banned forever!

How many polls have we had lately ?

A few to limit anons,
A few to limit infighting among posters,
At least one to ban JR,
Then there was the big root beer float recipe to do.......
I can't wait to see what's next !
Let's see...
A poll to ban DK seems only fair, ($5 says he responds to this)
A poll to ban polls could work,
Then there is the Tequila poll,
and the beer poll,
and let us not forget the p-inche gringo poll,
the "Baja" vs "The Baja" poll,

I'm sure I've missed quite a few possibilities, any more suggestions ?:P:spingrin::lol:

Maybe a poll to ban Divers ??

I agree with Jz I want to vote but I am going to wait until you clarify the pole so I vote correctly.:?:

I am addicted to this board

I am one that voted yes, because I feel it would limit new blood.
I think adding a new board called "Soap Opera" and banning Anon from it would give people a place to vent. Sorry Doug more work moving them for awhile.
IMHO What's yours??:light:
Albert
p.s. Doug I can't spell for ****. Why don't we have a world class spell checker?

You people are totally overreacting to anons. I think that very often people who have never visited this board have an interest or a question or a legitimate reason for being anonymous, and a requirement to register defuses that spontaneity to post. Some website registration procedures are a bit onerous - you have to wait an hour to get your password, or they want too much personal information - and being able to post anonymously once or twice makes it easy. Just because information comes from an Anon source doesn't make it worthless. As a reader-recipient of ANYTHING, you engage your own intellectual filters regardless of the author.

Doug had a pretty good explanation in another thread as to what the problem is.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes was for keeping them, no was for not keeping them.

PacO - 8-17-2005 at 08:43 AM

I like 'em. It's funny to watch the egotists freak about them. It's the internet!

Bruce R Leech - 8-17-2005 at 08:58 AM

Jr can you clarify what the yes and no votes are for?

is a yes vote for or against anon posts?

you should edit your first post . My vote went in as a Yes for git rid of them, and it should have been a no for don't let them stay.:?:

sorry I guess I'm to dumb for these things.

should we ban you to???

Mike Humfreville - 8-17-2005 at 09:49 AM

I understand our frustration with Anon's but find that much of the time they have good information and that they just don't think they'll be a more permanant part of this board than an occasional comment. Other Anon's use that status as a cloke from which they can launch invisible darts. That part of Anon should be banned, just like a registered user if he/she steps out of line.

However, I'd much rather get rid of the rabblerousers and those few that constantly bi*ch about others. That may be a big headache for Doug though. And before I get crap from any specific poster, I am addressing EVERYONE who feels the need to tear the board down.

Let us by no means forget

jrbaja - 8-17-2005 at 11:22 AM

the one at Bada Bing !!!!!!:lol::lol:

White Angel - 8-17-2005 at 12:42 PM

In defense of "Anons"; let me add that I often have trouble with the assigned password. The option to select our own would certainly help me. I need to keep a notebook next to the computer for the 30-40 differant codes needed for my internet use. Often, if the password is rejected a few times; I just give up and post "anon". Not trying to hide anything; just frustrated with ten digits in combination of letters and number that are case sensitive.

bajalou - 8-17-2005 at 12:51 PM

Go to the control panel and your account and it lets you change your password. I missed that feature and had to request a couple new ones before I got that straight.

White Angel - 8-17-2005 at 01:04 PM

Bajalou- THANKS! That was easy enough. Problem solved. No more "anons" for me. I wonder if I was the only one with the problem?

You are not alone

jrbaja - 8-17-2005 at 01:08 PM

I changed from Ski Baja for the same reason. And I understand, it's a pretty common problem.:light:

MIKEMCCARTY - 8-17-2005 at 02:09 PM

Makes no difference to me. I do like the responses they receive. This whole thing reeks of censorship

Absolutely against censorship

jrbaja - 8-17-2005 at 02:18 PM

I just feel that people should own up to and back up what they say with facts.
It's bad enough with the deletions after the fact but when nobody has to take responsibility for their words, it seems to be more of an abuse of this freedom, rather than intelligent contributions that are being made by the majority of anon posts.

Sharksbaja - 8-17-2005 at 03:19 PM

I agree that SOME anons could post a little smarter.

Doo-doo CAN be painted with pastel colors, it just takes more effort.

Hi mike

Ban/Anons/Polls

Baja Bernie - 8-19-2005 at 11:54 AM

When this poll first came out I was for the Anons because I thought it was a manner of hiding from all to frequent attacks BUT now I agree with JZ--they should be banned--2/3rds of the post on Baja Trip reports are by what appears to be one anon person.

I would go even further I would ban ALL polls--they were cute when they wanted to know what beer was the favorite but the motivation seems to have changed to just another weapon to pitch at someones back.
