That may sound a bit misleading and a little strange.

I am certainly by no means an expert but I have been witness.

Rewards are not always of tangible substance, certainly not here, after all were not playin' for chips.

What are we playing for? It's obvious to me sometimes. We are playing for ourselves of course.

Ludicrous? Folly?

Ask yourself the question:
"Why do I post and respond the way I do to some"

Do you post "off the cuff" or do you spend valuable synaptic time trying to illustrate your position.

Other influences may affect ones written words;
Do you exhibit extreme emotion during confrontational exchanges?

Does your ability to communicate succinctly deminish through your reluctance to continue a heated exchange.

Do you resent later your dialog, hoping it's percieved correctly and welcomed or do you worry that it will fail in all eyes?

Does the fear of being pegged as belonging to one group or another hover over all your contributions.

Do you really care personally how the rest of the board members view you.

Do you wish you could always be viewed as an independant by your peers here.

Is it so important to you to contribute, even anonymously, if your view(s) become threatened?

What should you do when one demonizes you, should it bother you?
Should you respond? Should you keep personal these feelings?

These are just some common questions folks might ask themselves sometimes.

Normal feelings for most people. So why do people treat each other with enormous disrespect or vice versa?

Is there a way to forgive and forget. Should you?

These questions lend themselves particularly well with inexperienced (Forum)individuals, anonymous converts and a horde of lurkers.

One thing is for sure, you must get over the injuries fast and counter effectively.

Participation time has given me a clearer perspective of the general position of some of the more active players.

I had not until recently felt the need to delve into others past scripturesas a way to justify or condemn a post. Why would one?
Maybe the confidence or lack of, played heavy.
To be sure, qualifying or disqualifying by way of research can be of paramount importance.

One thing is sure. Try to know through effort who you are dealing with, it makes for a much more level playing field.

Joining others in a lamblasting however may carry permanent side-effects.

Above all else; post your own opinion as an opinion and stay with it. Posting "as fact" can be very precarious. Be sure.

The "truth" can be your devining rod.

Beware the agendas too.

Before you write something with harsh overtones and disdain remember what they say on SNL,

but don't take it too personal and go away.

You may have more allies than you thought.

I was setting here this morning thinking about the old timers who have dropped off and the newbee's who might never leave the legions of the lurkers. Right in the middle of my heavest thoughts I received an email with 17 points on how the Dalai Lama looks at 2005.

Now! Now! I am serious and just a few won't hurt anybody who wanders around Baja

#6. Don't let little disputes injure a great relationship
#7, When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it
#14. Share your knowledge. It is a way to share immortality
#16. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before

Seems to me that these simple things, if practiced, would make for a fun forum where the old timers would enjoy returning and the youngsters would not feel that they were going to get shot if they posted.

Shark, I think a lot of us are trying to figure out how we can have fun and start learning about Baja again.

Bernie...care to share the other 12 Dalai Lama hints? They sounded like pretty good advice to me.

When I first started reading I used to get you and Baja Blackie mixed up...now I can tell quite well without your signatures who is who. And I think I could id a few others as well. By nature I am an observer, not terribly combative and more apt to prefer the company of lizards to loudmouths of any persuasion. I like your style!)

Sharks...pretty perceptive; good questions.

I don't really have a lot to offer about Baja, since my experience is limited. But I sure take it in, and when I have something to say, I will. I have not been scared off by the fray, but I'd rather levitate with BajaJudy and enjoy the flowers than spend my time on arguments of dubious merit.

1. I am entranced by all things Baja. I like this board and try to think that I am talking face-to-face so I don't forget the rules of politeness that allow a society to remain functioning while disagreeing.

3. I try not to.

4. Probably, I usually get choked up when I am engage in an emotional debate that I feel I have a stake in.

9. Not terribly worried about it.
