Hello All,
Have heard discouraging news about the beach and area (last summer). Now I hear it is back open. My favorite place to camp!! Would REALLY like to
hear any news on this topic.
vandenberg - 12-3-2005 at 05:53 PM
All Iknow is that I drove by there a few hours ago, on the way to the "new" concrete Tripui, and did see quite a few motorhomes and campers on the
beach. So, it must be open again.
reefrocket - 12-3-2005 at 06:08 PM
Thank you much!! Had heard that Fontara(sp) had bought it and fenced it and the dump off. Note the fenced off dump was of concern also as I a
confirmed scronger.
Don Alley - 12-3-2005 at 06:44 PM
Fonatur did fence it off in response to complaints from local trailer parks that the free camping there was unfair competition. This was spring or
early summer. So a fence went up, was torn down the following weekend, then went up again, and was promptly torn down again. It's remained open for
months now; I go there from time to time to launch my kayak.
But the days of free beach camping are going fast...new developments have been pitched to the local presidents and the governor, golf and hotels at
nearby San Bruno, new condos at the site of the Whale's Inn, LB buying El Camino Real...rumors, but they are flying fast and furious. Lots of
beachfront for sale. New construction at Puerto Escondido. And Fonatur development plans call for ALL beaches to be developed.

Thanks Don
I was afraid of that was the way thing were going. My inflatable doesn't like ROCKs so I really like the place. Any news on "Rattlesnake" camp area
below Escondido(sp)

Hi Reefrocket! So nice to hear from you, it has been a very long time!Last time I was at "Rattlesnake" was with Mija, Juanita and Mi Ninieta,
Rachel,(she was just learninng to walk)l and it was our tiny peice of heaven, not a single soul around, no footprints in the sand! That big ol' Tank
was still there, and the pier was just about gone. The Sealife in that area is very much alive.Fish a jumpin' and great snorkeling . I sure hope we
are talking about the same beach!!! More from you please, Reefrocket!!!
Had to edit cause I forgot to tell you that was when Mija had her internet cafe there (all gone, moved to Cabo!)

HI YA Sallysouth! I saw you were on the "site" read you post on the 3 unfortunates on SOC. Wanted to visit but couldn't figure out how??? Ty and
Juanita(sp) still around, I thought I read they sold out and went south?? Looked at Juanitas old web page and saw all the pictures of the FIRE at
Tripui(sp). I don't log in very often anymore. But wanted to wish you Happy Brithday as we share that day. I'm headed south for 25 or 30 days
around the 1st of Feb. and wanted to check in and catch up on the news.
Geminis!!
Sallysouth - 12-3-2005 at 08:20 PM
So good to hear your words, Reefrocket.Yes , Juanita and TY, and now Rachel(two yrs old, born in La Paz) are living in Cabo, way up on the hill on the
road to Todos Santos.Juanita is having another baby in Feb, and I will be there, probably for a long time, and maybe moving down permanently,if
possible. If you will be down there during this time, please lets meet and have a hug and/ or cold one! You can always U2U me... Sally
Sallysouth - 12-3-2005 at 08:23 PM
Hey Comi! What are you saying???
comitan - 12-3-2005 at 08:39 PM
The people that were staying there thought they owned the place, if you were not part of their click you were not welcome. I say this because many
years before settleing down we camped all the beaches of Baja(SOC) and though some had their clicks nobody ever made us as unwelcome as Rattlesnake.
jerry - 12-3-2005 at 08:47 PM
yes comie i got the same reception a few years back but i think if i was limp risted i might have fit in better like it was a big seacrat or something lol have a good one jerry
Sallysouth - 12-3-2005 at 08:57 PM
OH! I thought you were talking about the tiny little beach just on the other side of the Marina(old rock) building at Puerto Escondido!! Ah, the beach
at Juncalito...I'm sorry, can't help you on this one. When we first camped there no one else was there.Soon after, we "leased"(and still have) a peice
of land towards the North end of the bay, built a Palapa, it got destroyed by hurricanes, but my Ex-hubby and brother still have the place. That was
back in the days when Ramon was alive and I was a young mother. As far as I know, the beach at Juncalito is not called"Rattlesnake".
jerry - 12-3-2005 at 09:08 PM

Sallysouth - 12-3-2005 at 09:18 PM
Hello???Jerry, read my last post please. My daughter had the internet cafe in the API building for awhile and I know the area very well and all the
good people in the area. Thanks, Sally ( we call the little beach behind the API building "Rattlesnake") Maybe there are lots of rattlers on the
beaches there!!
jerry - 12-3-2005 at 10:33 PM

Just drove down last week (Nov 30) and stayed at Juncalito. Same as always. We make this our last stop before La Paz to let the dog run on the beach
and hike around over to Escondido. Rattlesnake is still open too. Many of the "campers" have been at Juncalito each winter for years. We see the
same people each year for our one night stop. The village is spreading poison around to kill the foxes (getting into the henhouse) so watch your dog.
Anyway, Juncalito still open, still the same.

The Old "Rattlesnake Area" from many years back was just aroud the Hill from Escondido. It was occupied mostly, by the Non-Groupe people who liked a
little less of a Crowd. They were also known for many Skinny Parties as well as lots of "Smoke". There was at one time a Single Lady who lived there
in a Bus She at one time was a girl friend of Angus McKensie{May of Married}
At an American Wedding, at the Plaza in Loreto I danced with this real Wild Lady who claimed that she was living at Rattlesnake{she sure could
Bite!!!
Lots of good Memories!

Hi Skeet
I am pretty sure I know what you mean by lots of "Smoke" but what is a "Skinny Party"?
++Ken++
Sallysouth - 12-4-2005 at 12:40 PM
Hey Ken, I'm pretty sure he means "naked!"
Skeet/Loreto - 12-4-2005 at 03:32 PM
No Sally!!
I mean NEKID!!!!!
Ken Bondy - 12-4-2005 at 05:37 PM
Damn am I dense!! As in "Skinny Dipping". Can't believe I missed that. I am just simply getting too old. I would have caught that in a heartbeat
twenty years ago. Thanks Sally and Skeet

Sallysouth - 12-4-2005 at 07:18 PM
Ha ha! Pretty funny Skeet! The reason I knew that was because one day Juanita and I were on the little beach next to the API building (which I now
know is NOT Rattlesnake Beach) and I was checking the bird action thru my Bi-nos and just happened to let my gaze wander to the beach, where I saw not
one single person with clothes on, and there were many! There were some funny smells coming from that direction also!
Kinda like a 60's style love-in beach!!! (you are welcome Ken!)

When the next break in the wind comes I may launch my kayak at Rattlesnake and fish some. I've been there but not fished. It was fixed up kinda nice,
with white rocks around planted areas.
I kayak with clothes on, but "nekid" kayaking is pretty common. I'm not too sure of the proper protocol when cruising by naked yakers.
Skeet/Loreto - 12-5-2005 at 11:43 AM
Sally: Even closer to Loreto they divided the Beach at Nopollo into a clothes optional, seperated by some small Treesl
there was this crazy Hungerian Pilot with a Motorized Hang Glider that was operating out of the Hotel, He charged $50 A ride, which included several
low Passes over the Beach forthose withCameras!!
This is the same Guy I threw rocks at when he flew low over the Beach in front of Rancho Sonrisa. Shortly thereafter he was ask to Leave Loreto.
Good Memories

What a hoot Skeet! I remember when they had the "clothes optional" at the Hotel there! Did not know about the Hanglider rides tho!! Kinda make me
think, what would all of that air do to a persons body parts?(nekid of course!)
And to Don Alley, if you don't have pants on in your kayak and it rolls over, do you stay stuck to the seat?(come on try it and let us know!!)
