Jucalito beach

Hello All,
Have heard discouraging news about the beach and area (last summer). Now I hear it is back open. My favorite place to camp!! Would REALLY like to hear any news on this topic.

All Iknow is that I drove by there a few hours ago, on the way to the "new" concrete Tripui, and did see quite a few motorhomes and campers on the beach. So, it must be open again.

Thank you much!! Had heard that Fontara(sp) had bought it and fenced it and the dump off. Note the fenced off dump was of concern also as I a confirmed scronger.:biggrin:

Fonatur did fence it off in response to complaints from local trailer parks that the free camping there was unfair competition. This was spring or early summer. So a fence went up, was torn down the following weekend, then went up again, and was promptly torn down again. It's remained open for months now; I go there from time to time to launch my kayak.

But the days of free beach camping are going fast...new developments have been pitched to the local presidents and the governor, golf and hotels at nearby San Bruno, new condos at the site of the Whale's Inn, LB buying El Camino Real...rumors, but they are flying fast and furious. Lots of beachfront for sale. New construction at Puerto Escondido. And Fonatur development plans call for ALL beaches to be developed.

Hi Reefrocket! So nice to hear from you, it has been a very long time!Last time I was at "Rattlesnake" was with Mija, Juanita and Mi Ninieta, Rachel,(she was just learninng to walk)l and it was our tiny peice of heaven, not a single soul around, no footprints in the sand!That big ol' Tank was still there, and the pier was just about gone. The Sealife in that area is very much alive.Fish a jumpin' and great snorkeling . I sure hope we are talking about the same beach!!!:bounce: More from you please, Reefrocket!!! Had to edit cause I forgot to tell you that was when Mija had her internet cafe there (all gone, moved to Cabo!)

The people that were staying there thought they owned the place, if you were not part of their click you were not welcome. I say this because many years before settleing down we camped all the beaches of Baja(SOC) and though some had their clicks nobody ever made us as unwelcome as Rattlesnake.

OH! I thought you were talking about the tiny little beach just on the other side of the Marina(old rock) building at Puerto Escondido!! Ah, the beach at Juncalito...I'm sorry, can't help you on this one.When we first camped there no one else was there.Soon after, we "leased"(and still have) a peice of land towards the North end of the bay, built a Palapa, it got destroyed by hurricanes, but my Ex-hubby and brother still have the place.That was back in the days when Ramon was alive and I was a young mother. As far as I know, the beach at Juncalito is not called"Rattlesnake".

Hello???Jerry, read my last post please. My daughter had the internet cafe in the API building for awhile and I know the area very well and all the good people in the area.Thanks, Sally ( we call the little beach behind the API building "Rattlesnake") Maybe there are lots of rattlers on the beaches there!!

Just drove down last week (Nov 30) and stayed at Juncalito. Same as always. We make this our last stop before La Paz to let the dog run on the beach and hike around over to Escondido. Rattlesnake is still open too. Many of the "campers" have been at Juncalito each winter for years. We see the same people each year for our one night stop. The village is spreading poison around to kill the foxes (getting into the henhouse) so watch your dog. Anyway, Juncalito still open, still the same.

The Old "Rattlesnake Area" from many years back was just aroud the Hill from Escondido. It was occupied mostly, by the Non-Groupe people who liked a little less of a Crowd. They were also known for many Skinny Parties as well as lots of "Smoke". There was at one time a Single Lady who lived there in a Bus She at one time was a girl friend of Angus McKensie{May of Married}
At an American Wedding, at the Plaza in Loreto I danced with this real Wild Lady who claimed that she was living at Rattlesnake{she sure could Bite!!!

Lots of good Memories!

Hi Skeet

I am pretty sure I know what you mean by lots of "Smoke" but what is a "Skinny Party"?
