BOC revisited

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:23 PM

Found myself "over there" again. Extremely serene and less windy than the west shore.
Anyhoo, this is a very common shore typical on the eastern shores of the Bay of Conception, sweeping pebble beaches go on for miles.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:26 PM

This next image looking south shows the gentle slope up from the shore.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:33 PM

This shot facing west includes the islands off Stanispac

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:36 PM

Here I am down closer to to water. The only road out there rises and falls with the terrain.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:39 PM

The landscape changes as you head for the point. Fun driving on the beach...which is the road in places.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:41 PM

Awesome place to beachcomb. Lots of shells.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:46 PM

The road is narrow and lined with serious brush in areas. Pinstripping!
AS you near the point the road veers east and up and over to the other side. This is the view upon arrival.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:48 PM

This is a view looking north on the other side near the mine.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:50 PM

This shows the beautiful cliffs and deep blue sea. Many lobster shells on the beach.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:52 PM

The rock is composed of sculpted sandstone embedded with a multitude of colorful round stones.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:54 PM

You can vaguely see the remains of a mining operation. You will see many concrete slabs where homes once stood.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:56 PM

This pic highlight the strange concrete structures that mark the site.

Sharksbaja - 2-6-2006 at 11:59 PM

This photo was taken at the pass. Note the water barely visible.

Sharksbaja - 2-7-2006 at 12:00 AM

Peaceful (sigh)

Sharksbaja - 2-7-2006 at 12:02 AM

Those rugged mountains hold many caves and formations.

BOLABOUND - 2-7-2006 at 12:04 AM

Looks like one of the places, Im looking for.

Beautiful:bounce:

A fun trip off-road

Sharksbaja - 2-7-2006 at 12:13 AM

This trip requires 4X4 but is all but difficult. Take some communication with you as it is very desolate. Also plan on spending at least one night. It is doable in one day out and back but for sure would short-change the visitor. Say good-bye to your paint job. This is another "made by jeep" track.

Sharks...

Mexray - 2-7-2006 at 12:19 AM

...next time you're going over that way, hit me up for some waypoints of the small canyon with the rock paintings...there are many small paintings there, and the more you look the more you can find.

The wash going up into the canyon is actually shown in the Baja Almanac's page 37, as 'Los Pintados' (about P-5) and next to a fishing camp that's marked 'Margarita'.

I've been told that many native artifacts have been found in the area over the years, arrowheads, pottery shards, etc.

I love to hike up into those mountains some day...but that's some 'rugged' country! Keep an eye out for Snakes of the 'Rattle' variety over there...

Great pictures...love that whole area!

Ray

Sharksbaja - 2-7-2006 at 01:22 AM

That is awesome . Yep, heard about stuff up in those moutains. It seems they are little explored. Just right!
Went up to the ranch. They have a large elevated water tank in a nice spot1 The only water supposedly but I'll bet there are other sources considering the size of the range.

Sharksbaja - 2-7-2006 at 08:47 AM

Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me!!

The only thing I can say is that I don't share all my experiences in Baja and I generalize a lot.
On both my trips out there I saw nobody past the first fish camp and that is only a few kms from the start. The road is narrow and I'd love to see a trailer out there!:lol:Hardly a freeway. I also noticed only a few sideroads leading up washes.
When I did a search here I found very little posted. On top of that when I looked at my thread from last year I found my photos somehow got purged from my site. :?:
Everyone knows you are the expert on the BOC and a great story teller too.. Tell us more.
But really Pompano I'd rather see some photos from your recent visits over there not those recycled ones. Forget the memory stick?
;D

David K - 2-7-2006 at 08:56 AM

Pompano (and the rest of you contributing Nomads), we are sure fortunate that you have taken so many photos over the years and share them with us!

That hanging rock looks like one I see in Erle Stanley Gardner's book 'Off the Beaten Track in Baja' when he and the gang explored the Concepcion peninsula... around 1966!

The Point .... Hanging Rock '2004'

Pompano - 2-7-2006 at 04:47 PM

Well...that did it. The Baja Feeling has just about disappeared from this forum. Forget any more photos and stories from me. Adios.

Sharks, you can take your 'memory stick' and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

-- Editing comment: In response to a few U2U's I will leave the below picture up and keep posting on BajaNomads for the time being.

Easy Rogelio, didn't you just tell me that there are always going to be 'negative nellies' who need to take a shot at whatever you are doing/saying/posting and just to forget them.

We others, really value and enjoy the fantastic photos and the verbage that goes with all of them. Don't let Nellies shut you down.

Okie doke Rog

Sharksbaja - 2-7-2006 at 05:59 PM

only let me take your place, I need a break..so get over it.

Now who do those pesky U2Us remind you of?:lol:

Yer oneupmanship makes me sing the lame tune.
Too bad you feel dissed, me too.

Frailes: was my post negative?;D I wasn't offering up bait but boy he sure took it, and u too I fear. Suerte

Hey Pomp

Baja Bernie - 2-7-2006 at 06:41 PM

That was a fun book--"The Baja Feeling" by Ben Hunter, 1978.

Nobody could ever lose that feeling once they experienced it.

No, I ain't getting in the middle of this--did that once before on this board and I was the one who ended up losing.

Being a cop I should have know better because more cops get hurt handling 'family' disturbances than any other kind of call.

David K - 2-7-2006 at 07:16 PM

What happened ??? Pompano's photos are gone... Que paso?

David K

Baja Bernie - 2-7-2006 at 07:49 PM

Seems like too many people on this board he just decided to delete them--Our Loss!

Doug Means I really believe that the delete button is tearing this board apart--in little pieces.

Don't get me wrong---I hope to God he does not go away because he has much more knowledge about Baja than most of us combined.

I enjoyed Sharks pictures but Pomp's can not be replaced.

Crap!

David K - 2-7-2006 at 07:59 PM

Only the person who posts or the moderator can delete one's own post. That is a good policy... Those who make unkind comments or get their facts wrong can edit or remove them. Why keep something up here that would only continue to cause problems? Baja is about FRIENDS helping friends to paraphrase something you had put on tee shirts we bought... Not deleting the unfriendly posts would turn Baja Nomad into another negative Baja forum... like there already is at Baja dot ....... (somewhere else).

Bernie, in reading Roger's short reply above, it seems both you and I missed the fireworks... Somebody had to make a sour comment about Roger posting or reposting his classic photos.

Pompano, please start a new thread with your classic era photos...

No! David

Baja Bernie - 2-7-2006 at 08:06 PM

I read it all and totally disagree with you thoughts on deleting.

As adults we all have to be responsible for our words and deeds and we should not be able to hide them with a mere click of the mouse.

[Edited on 2-8-2006 by Baja Bernie]

David K - 2-7-2006 at 08:20 PM

So if I call you a bad name in the heat of the moment, then an hour or day later regret it... I shouldn't be able to delete my own post???

That logic escapes me... I am here to have friendly exchanges or just share the things I have that others like to read or see.

On a few rare moments, people have been unkind to me or my friends... I may have vented back at them... Once that passed, there is absolutely NO reason to leave the garbage up here.

You do realize the popularity of Fred's board grew greatly when the garbage of hate was raging here a few months ago... You see NO personal interaction or conversation is allowed there... It is strictly for the sharing of Baja Travel information.

That tells me that negative posts chase people away... Is it fair to Doug that negative posts not be removed, thus chasing viewers away?

Let's keep it positive Nomads... We are human, so personalities will conflict or there will be misunderstandings... But the delete feature is the one way we can govern ourselves... Down with government control, up with individual freedom!!!

[Edited on 2-8-2006 by David K]

Baja Bernie - 2-7-2006 at 08:50 PM

What in the world does the below quote mean?

The delete button is a very poor way to control our base instincts and let's us off the hook for being less than responsible. Case in point--we just may lose a lot of historical pictures just because someone reacted to Ponpano's pictures in a less than adult fashion and then he got hot and deleted his classic pictures--who lost--all of us!

Wow, You are starting to sound like a 60's hippy marching on our Government. I always thought you were to the right of Attilla the Hun.

Sharks how do I get to this place. is beatifull I have been in BOC but don't know about this road.

Bajacat

Sharksbaja - 2-7-2006 at 09:31 PM

Iam almost afraid to say!

Seriously though, at the far end of Bahia de Concepcion is a road that leads out along the other side of the bay out to pt Conception . Easy to find just stay along the shore.

bajarich - 2-7-2006 at 09:45 PM

I have been out on that road and seen the old manganese mine. We thought we were alone, but when we climbed a hill we saw another couple camped just south of us.

Thanks for the pics and reminding me of how nice it is out there. The last time I drove the road up the pennisula was in Jan, 2002, just after Juliet and the road was a real 4wd road. Every wash had taken the road out. How is it now?

The first time we went out there we found the remains of a ranch that belonged to someone named "Baja Patty". Does anyone know anything more about this place? There is also supposed to be some rock art out on the pennisula, but we never found it.

You are truly amazing Bernie. You sit there and tell us all how you don't want to get in the middle of a spat. Then you spew this:

BAJACAT - 2-7-2006 at 09:59 PM

Thanks Sharks I have seen this road but did'nt know that goes all the way, I was looking for fire wood when whe camp at el coyote when i saw it.

BAJACAT - 2-7-2006 at 10:04 PM

Whe have to many problems in the outside guys let us not make more in this forum for the well being of every one specially new people like my self is so easy to get a wrong idea.....

David K - 2-7-2006 at 10:09 PM

The road to the end of the Concepcion peninsula is documented in two guidebooks in my library: Offbeat Baja by Jim Hunter c1977 and Backroad Baja by Patti and Tom Higginbotham c1996. Also the 2003 AAA and Baja Almanac maps show it.

Oh, Bernie about this in your post: "Wow, You are starting to sound like a 60's hippy marching on our Government. I always thought you were to the right of Attilla the Hun."

Individual freedom is a conservative idea, big government is a liberal goal... I am for the former, as was the great Ron Reagan... Was he a hippie too?

[Edited on 2-8-2006 by David K]

Thanks Dk as today I still don't have a B-Almanac

BAJACAT - 2-7-2006 at 10:12 PM

David K - 2-7-2006 at 10:17 PM

I think Baja Judy has them in stock and ships right away? http://www.bajabooksandmaps.com

Also, in San Diego: Map Centre, Discover Baja Travel Club, and Barnes and Noble books stores (where I got my last copy... in Santee).
