New Toyota FJ Cruiser--------

Barry A. - 4-2-2006 at 12:36 PM

---------just arrived in the showrooms, at least up here in N. California. It is a good looking beast, and worth taking a look at. About 7K cheaper than a Hummer H3, and probably more reliable, based on past Toyota's reliability records.

The price Range looks like about 25k to 35K, off the top of my head. Our dealer does not have any brochures, as yet. The have 4 "FJ's" and 3 are already sold, within 5 days.

Fun, fun!!!!

jimgrms - 4-2-2006 at 04:03 PM

Barry a neighbor of mine got one last week it is nice but expensive , not a lot of difference between them and the toy 4x4 truck proabley reliable as hell but will not sell many the first year because of price ,should be cheaper in a year or so.

In case someone hasn't seen it...

David K - 4-2-2006 at 09:26 PM

Side view... intersting door opening... ?

Bob H - 4-3-2006 at 08:21 AM

One word... Ug-Lee! I'll stick with a FORD! :tumble:

Ugg-leeee-----does not compute------

Barry A. - 4-3-2006 at 09:25 AM

--------when you are looking for a competant 4x4. Surely nobody thinks that a "jeep" is purty??? or a "hummer"?

"good looking" is not a valid criteria to judge by, it seems to me---------------bisides I think it is really "cool" looking.

Diver - 4-3-2006 at 09:28 AM

Any idea how the size compares to a Ford Explorer ??
We were looking at a crew cab Tacoma for my wife but maybe this would work better ?? She's had an Explorer for years.

Looks like another one for small people !

What are the ones in the back seat supposed to do when the Diver and front passenger are over 6' tall ?

Maybe thay should make a "tall" version ??
Wait, that would be an Explorer !
Although I do wish the could put a Toyota engine in the things, I've replaced two motors in 13 years of Explorers.

seen a few here in Laguna...

eetdrt88 - 4-3-2006 at 10:21 AM

they look like all the other mini-suv type of vehicles out there right now except with ugly paint jobs

Mini-SUV type veh???????????????

Barry A. - 4-3-2006 at 12:37 PM

Wow, you guys must be REALLY big!!!!

Have you actually sat in one?? I am 5' 10" and it was plenty big for me. And, it has a cargo area that I can sleep in------that is as big as I want, or need. To each his/her own, I guess.

Cypress - 4-3-2006 at 01:08 PM

Something about paying between $25k and $35k for a truck just doesn't compute!

You priced a new Ford Super-Duty lately???

Barry A. - 4-3-2006 at 01:13 PM

----------------SHOCKING!!!!!!!!

Cypress - 4-3-2006 at 01:42 PM

Just nailed a deer with my '92 Chevy!#@$ Imagine I'm gonna be shocked when I get the estimated cost of repairs.

TMW - 4-3-2006 at 06:33 PM

Based on the curb weight it must not be too small or there is a lot of steel in it. As to price the MSRP for chevy/GMC 4x4 extra cab is mid 30s depending on what you want in it. My 04 GMC had a MSRP of $34,500. Paid $26,500 plus tax and license. Total out the door was $28,700 or there abouts.

Oso - 4-3-2006 at 08:08 PM

FaF. (Just bought McGyver's Taco and happy as a puerco en estiercol) Toyota rules!

David K - 4-3-2006 at 09:20 PM

Congratulations Oso!

I drive a ford F-250 kingcab/longbed diesel truck,so most cars on the road seem small to me:cool:

Repair bill for truck was $800+ change! Replace plastic grill, and light components one drivers side. No body work. Amazing, the grill is nothing more than a re-shaped laundry hamper-type piece of molded plastic. No wonder vehicles cost so much.

Ken Cooke - 4-7-2006 at 04:47 PM

I saw one in the parking lot, and with those stock tires, there is no way it could complete most desert trails in Baja.
The adds all say that because it has some advanced traction-control system, it is able to transfer all of the traction to the tires, and no need for aggressive tires.

Newsflash! With the limited amounts of suspension articulation, I doubt its prowess in canyons in Baja - like Basketball Hill.

Compare that flex to the flex on my Jeep...

Can you say, "A Whopping Difference"!?!

And, for those who insist that BFG makes a trouble-free All-Terrain as pictured on some of the FJ Cruiser ads...Here is what it looks like to change a BFG Mud-Terrain tire on the dirt with as much suspension as found on a Jeep...

Toyota broke the mold on this one..

Tomas Tierra - 4-7-2006 at 07:36 PM

My old Baja ride...one of a kind!! close to 25k off road miles!

4 sets of bfg's..3 sets of ranchos...original 22r, still purring when I sold it!!

Not sure if i miss the Dog or the truck more..definately the dog!

good news, the 4 wheel pop top lives on!!

Im with you Bob

I used to think

Hook - 4-13-2006 at 09:16 AM

that the Element and the Scion were ugly, but they have kinda grown on me.

This thing is not bad looking at all.....kinda looks like a 4WD Element.

tim40 - 4-19-2006 at 07:37 PM

Always had Fords, Jeep and Toys. From all that I have researched to date...this may be at my house within the next week.

Starting to see a few of these now

Hook - 5-4-2006 at 10:10 AM

I like the blue ones and the yellow ones.

The black ones with the white roof are REALLY ugly, IMO.

Neat little rigs......especially for under 30k. Would be great if you could get a BIG sunroof over the front seats; a real factory one, not an aftermarket one.

The squarecircle - 5-4-2006 at 02:51 PM

"from jimgrms" nothing happens & nothing to see!!!!!! ???????????? sq.

Ken Cooke - 5-5-2006 at 04:53 PM

Here is a little Cruiser that I saw after work last week. It would be *perfect* for Sq.'s trips out into the desert...
