Hola Nomads!

Just a note to tell you my son and I had a great weekend in El Rosario... Antonio was there at his Pemex station and the Baja Cactus Motel next door, working like crazy with all the business activity.

The motel is booked up every night (seems the word has gotten out that this is THE place to stay!)... We saw Marv and Gail Sherrill of the Baja Calendar, on their way to L.A. Bay for vacation who spent the night at Antonio's motel... also Roman Card##as, of Alfonsina's Resort and Pemex at Gonzaga Bay stopped to visit... Roman is one of Alfonsina's sons.

Look to the Trip Reports forum over the next few days for photos and details of:

The Mama Espinoza Museum

Hugo Lopez' latest desert paintings

Yucca harvest unloaded from truck

Catus photos

Search for Santa Ursula (a water hole on the Camino Real)

Flat stone mine overlooking Arroyo San Fernando

Cave above Km. 100/101

Las Pintas revisted... deep interior photos

La Lobrea revisted... big splash and new building (motel?)

Today (Sunday) we left at 11:30 am and topped the tank at El Rosario when a honk had me look up at some big motorhome... It was Bedman, Emma and Daisy... on their way to L.A. Bay!

Chris and I went to La Lobera and spent an hour there... We had some fish tacos along the highway in San Quintin... reached the LONG Tijuana border line at 5:30pm, but were surprised at how quickly the line moved and we were inside the USA in one hour, exactly.

Anyway, it was fun and yummy too (the new Tacos el Poblado was GREAT... where the Baja Stone Restaurant used to be)... Shrimp and Lobster burrito dinner at Primo's Bocana Beach Restaurant (in front of the Sinahi motel) was excellent... Flan for dessert at Mama Espinoza's was very good... Breakfast of chorizo and eggs at Baja's Best (far end of town) was great...

Stay tuned for all the photos and more on the Trip Reports forum... here's one to tease you with!

Antonio, Chris, and I went to dinner there Saturday night. Antonio had the shrimp empanizado (breaded), Chris had the garlic shrimp, and I had the lobster burritos (plate of three stuffed full of lobster meat, on the side was rice, veggies and salad).

Bob, I didn't bring my camera into the retaurant... but the photo I took of your shrimp plate (last July) is out there on the World Wide Web!

Hi David
What is the name of Antonios Hotel?
How many hours roughly from the border?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

It is BAJA CACTUS MOTEL and is just south of the Pemex in El Rosario which is also owned by Antonio's family.

It is about a 5 hour drive from the border (225 miles) if you are not towing or in a slower rig like a motorhome.

Antonio has a web site for the motel, but last I looked it just has the address and phone numbers (do make a reservation!)
