Early Warning System?

I am in North baja, and we dont really have issues like that here. And the best that I can say, is since you have a puter, and spend time online, make one of your first stops every time that you log on. Make it the weather.com Then if youe see a storm comming in, even a rain storm, start making calls, and smoke signals.

Early Warning? How 'bout 2 days notice that a hurricane is bearing down on you? That's all the warning most folks need.

maybe we could buy the fire department an 'air raid' siren. I'm sure we could find one cheap somewhere. Any one know if they would be able to utilize one? Anyone want to help?:light:

Not trying to be provocative or start an argument, there are a lot of people on this board living in Mulege who all had at least a two day warning that they would likely be hit dead on. Given their numbers, it would seem that other townspeople could have been informed and I'm sure they all did their best to do so. Perhaps they could organize some sort of volunteer advisory system with set guidelines ?

However, given human nature, it does seem unlikely that most people would evacuate given that information, especially given the unpredictability of the track forecasts. I understand that emotion. My inclination would be to stay, but my wife would want to get out along with the dogs. What percentage of those on this board living in Mulege evacuated ?

I think you are right Bill. I don't think anyone did know it was coming. the fire dept went around and told people to leave and they did not one fine person tried to go back and save his rig and was lost. I cant understand why people act this way I took my family and headed to high ground early on and said to heck with the belongings. I was already gone when the fire dept. got here got my family to safety and went to work with the firemen. the firemen literally drug one man out of his house because he wouldn't leave and in the morning his house was gone.

An excellent example of the problem with "Early Warnings" and evacuations is that of Hurricane Ernesto. Sure that the Keys would be heavily evacuated, the Florida State Government announced a recommended evacuation. Afterwards, there were a multitude of ANGRY complaints that people had been mislead and evacuated from what turned out to be a heavy rain, increasing the likelihood that fewer people will heed the next "State of Emergency".

Bruce: I tried my best to Warn people in Loreto and Mulege that the Storm track looked very much like Lisa. Glad to hear that the Kids were taken out of the Arroyos.
Lisa verred to the West, the only thing that saved more damage in "76". Old Juan just took its time gathering Water for the dumping on Mulege.

My Heart is Happy that most of the People will return and rebuild Mulege.

I have a friend that lives in the keys, and he says that the storm was a joke. that even the news crews were standing in puddles to make it look worse than it was. So you are very right, that the next storm, less people will leave, and more could get hurt.

It is just one of those things.

First, you are not going to help or warn someone who was born stupid.
This should not keep you from trying to organize an alert system. the big thing now is time. If you wait to long you Will not be able to add the responsibility to head of households.
That is where the responsibility lies and you should use the importance of the events now to make them feel important and accept the job. If you get them now the next time they will worry about their family's safety. The fire department notify section head and he reminds the head of household the importances of them keeping their family safe. If they agree now, they will remember.
This is a warning system, An air raid siren is something people ignore.

SEGOB (civil defense) announced that BCS is on blue alert because of TS Lane. If I remember correctly, the alerts are blue, green, yellow, orange and red, in order of nearness and ferocity. Ni modo, how does everyday Jose get the news on what alert level we're on?

10:37{this morning} Mientras las autoridades estatales todavía evalúan los daños que dejó el huracán John a su paso por la península de Baja California Sur, el Sistema de Protección Civil declaró alerta azul -peligro moderado- para la entidad, ante la presencia de la tormenta tropical Lane en el pacífico mexicano.
De acuerdo con el organismo, el fenómeno hidrometeorológico se desplaza al oeste-noroeste, presentando fuerte nubosidad en zonas marítimas, costeras y tierra adentro de Michoacán a Jalisco.
La Comisión Nacional del Agua (Conagua) en BCS informó que la tormenta tropical aún no representa riesgos para los sudcalifornianos, no obstante, de continuar su desplazamiento, durante el fin de semana se comenzarán a sentir sus efectos sobre la entidad.
Según el Sistema Meteorológico Nacional, el fenómeno se localiza a 160 kilómetros al oeste suroeste de Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán y a 225 kilómetros al sur- sureste de Manzanillo, Colima, con vientos máximos sostenidos de 65 km por hora y rachas de 85 km por hora.
Se recomienda tomar precauciones a la navegación marítima de la zona y a la población en general en la región costera de Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán y Guerrero, por vientos fuertes, oleaje elevado y lluvias que podrán alcanzar los 150 milímetros.

I rarely run in circles!! But I definitely feel MY storm path predictions have been more accurate than the guys who get paid the big bucks to make the; more oft than not; less than accurate predictions from which I generate MY prediction! Larry, think those NOAA guys moonlight making mosquito catchers & robotic vacuum cleaners? :lol: There IS some efficacy commonality!
