Capt. Mike... also to refresh your memory on the people you met back in 2001 at Viva Baja 3 which you flew to Oceanside for (with Nomad 'BajaTaco' and wives): http://vivabaja.com/vivabaja3 There were over 100 people there, and it was awhile ago... but many are still active here on Nomad.

Heck, without looking at the photos, I forget who was at all my parties too!

El Jefe was there:

Bob H

osoflojo - 9-22-2006 at 12:13 PM

SDL is the 3 letter designator for the Scottsdale airport.

capt. mike - 9-22-2006 at 01:49 PM

right on people! Tom hasn't changed a bit DK, and his bride Paula is cuter than a bug's ear.

vgabndo - 9-22-2006 at 02:02 PM

Mike:

Not that long ago the same thing happened to me in Mt. Shasta California. Met a nomad at a diesel station. The small world thing gets goofier though. It was El Jefe and his sweet bride!!! These guys get around....and they MUST stand out:lol:

There I go again...THAT whole thread is part of THIS one. DUH!

Hey Bob.....buddy.....we gots to get you a hobby my friend....you have too much time on your hands!!

now for some fun - who can correctly identify the 3 letter code for the identifier for the strip at mulege??

1st one to do so gets an alex marg there on me, or one in SDL at capt. mike's famous palapa bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David K - 9-22-2006 at 06:07 PM

Is there only one strip left in Mulege, now? Before pavement arrived to ruin things, pilots had the only easy way to get there on one of four strips (three were right there in town)!

vgabndo - 9-22-2006 at 06:30 PM

I thought it was officially called EL GALLITO. Wrong?

Perry, are you going to take a stab at Mike's question for that margarita?

I didn't mention any names or THREE LETTER CODES because I have an unfair advantage with my Baja airport books!

capt. mike - 9-22-2006 at 06:57 PM

yes Vgabndo, as Ed used to say...YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!

BUT, i am looking for the 3 letter ID for it.... keep on keping on my friends.

Mulege 3 letter code

Loretana - 9-23-2006 at 05:37 PM

Debra - 9-24-2006 at 04:21 AM

Airport names change, the 3 letter codes never do.

Do I get a "honorable mention" for that bit of usless information Capitaino?

(I got to the thread late :( )

David K - 9-24-2006 at 07:59 AM

I don't think private dirt strips count, and the name can be whatever...
The map that Kamper linked to seems to point at the old Muņoz strip west of Mulege... It's not pointing to the Serenidad strip, very near the gulf.

Now, the question is does the code abbreviate El Gallito or Hotel Serenidad?

capt. mike - 9-24-2006 at 11:38 AM

it's tied to EL Gallito, DK - answer still up for grabs.....

i've been in KPRC the past few days so no computer access.

Debra - you get an honorable mention.....there you go.:wow:

osoflojo - 9-25-2006 at 09:26 AM

25th Anniversary Trip Feb 2006 post.jpg - 26kB

El Jefe - 9-26-2006 at 08:07 AM

Yes, I remember that trip well! We had a blast! It was fun meeting you guys. Paula had stayed back at SI Springs to finish a screenplay and Gene, Joan and I drove out to the lagoon to see the big guys. Joan especially loved it.

The first time we saw whales was at Ojo de Liebre. On that trip I filmed our encounter with a video camera. Joan was having the time of her life being the animal nut that she is. We really didn't notice at the time, but on playback we could hear Joan's continuous commentary which went something like this:

Oh yah, come on baby. Yes, yes, Oh yay. Now COME ON, YES, OH, OH OH, YAH BABY YAY!!!!!

Someone just hearing the video would have thought an entirely different scene was unfolding. We all got a great laugh out of that, Joan included.

osoflojo - 9-26-2006 at 11:04 AM

Capt. Mike, I'll take you up on your trago next trip to SDL/PHX. osoflojo
