what happened to DEBRA?

Minnow - 1-22-2007 at 11:12 AM

I miss her. I see she was last active in August. :?:

Sallysouth - 1-22-2007 at 04:20 PM

Yes, I do too! Funny< I was thinking about her lately......Debra??????You still here????:?:

DENNIS - 1-22-2007 at 04:39 PM

Sallysouth ----
I didn't know Debra and I hope she's alright.
Is that Capo Beach where you live? I lived there for years in Leroy Browns trailer camp, if you remember that.

Minnow--- Not trying to rip-off your thread but it raised a question.

4baja - 1-22-2007 at 08:01 PM

she was last in costa rica, probably drinking dacs.

bigboy - 1-22-2007 at 08:15 PM

Dennis,

I remember Bad Bad Leroy Brown back in the early 70's. He really liked being refered to as Bad Bad Leroy after the song by Jim Croce!
I live in Capo Beach and have a house in Campo La Jolla across from Leslie and Mike's house. I joined the group at Patty's last Saturday and Mike said he knows you well. I probably bumped into you in the past and hope to met you during the new year. The wife and I are down there about twice a month!

Larry

Sallysouth - 1-22-2007 at 08:25 PM

Uh, where is Campo La Jolla in Capo? I have lived here since 1958, in between living in Utah, Mexico, and Hawaii(gypsys!) Can't recall BB leroy B. but if you can refresh my mind it may just come back!!!:tumble:And hey 4 Baja, when did you last hear from Debra? I know her, met her and Maryanne Humphfryville here in DP, on their way south a few years back.Geez maybe she has defected??:tumble::lol:

[Edited on 1-23-2007 by Sallysouth]

DENNIS - 1-22-2007 at 08:40 PM

No no --------
La Jolla is Baja
CapoBeach is Capo.
Leroy Brown owned the cabin and trailer camp behind his gas station close to the coast highway overpass, across from the post office next to the hardware store across from the Chinese restaurant next to Shades realestate office by the auto parts business.
Probably all gone now but, that's the way it was.

DENNIS - 1-22-2007 at 08:44 PM

Hey bigboy ----
Think I've seen you at Paty's with Mike in the past. Next time, I'll say hello.

4baja - 1-23-2007 at 07:28 AM

she was down in cost rica about two months ago. she may have stayed a while longer with her son. shes usually in the bay of la around june and will see her then. will be there for two weeks.

Paulina - 1-23-2007 at 08:02 AM

The last I heard she was planning on spending Spring break with Mary Ann.

I'm in Laguna Niguel...

M - 1-23-2007 at 08:17 AM

Seems I have a couple of Nomad neighbors. I would love to know if there is going to be a gathering of Nomads in this area, It would be be great to see friends from the board.
my email is writeme1@cox.net.
Hugs,
M

The Pattys morning crowd is called the liars club. If you guys are there say hi when I come by. I will be on a Suzuki GS550 Motorcycle. Blue and White, or a burgandy ford bronco towing a boat, or aq yellow and white Suzuki DR 350.

Still no final word on Debra. I though you would know M.:?:

Marie-Rose - 1-23-2007 at 02:20 PM

I've been wondering where she is as well:?: David K do you know????

Paulina - 1-23-2007 at 03:24 PM

I got this message today from MaryAnn,

"Debra has been having trouble with her computer and is out of touch via email, etc. Her brother, Ron, is supposed to be bringing her a new one with lots of bells and whistles on it. Don't know if she has it yet. She is flying down to attend Mike's Celebration; she's arriving Thurs., and will stay in my motorhome and fly home on Mon. And then she will drive down sometime the end of March and we will go down to bahia til it gets too hot, I guess."

So there you have it, that's the latest. I'm sure that when she gets back online she'll be checking in.

P<*)))><

Julie - 1-23-2007 at 04:28 PM

Wow Capo and Dana Point, what a small world.
Mike and I are from Dana Point (since 1985, Huntington before that) and still have a place there, that's where we flee to in September when it gets so muggy here in Loreto. We truely get the best of both worlds.

See Paulina's post just above...

Let's attend the Mike Humfreville remembrance on Feb. 10 in Glendale... He would very much like the Baja Amigos y Nomads to be together... Mike (& Mary Ann) never missed a Viva Baja or BBBB get-together.

Anyway, Mike would want to hassle Debra and she would call him a putz, in responce! Those two fought and made up like brothers and sisters! Good times at Camp Gecko with all of us together... I will miss that!

Sallysouth - 1-23-2007 at 05:34 PM

Julie, This is off the thread so chek your U2U! Sally

bigboy - 1-23-2007 at 08:30 PM

Dennis,

Yes, I think I know who you are! We'll be down at the Campo La Jolla house this coming weekend and I'll try to make it to Patty's on Saturday.
As far as Capo Beach, I've lived in the area since 1970 and some of the business's are still there. The real estate, liquor store, donut world, Chinese restaurant, post office are there and the auto parts store moved to a small building on Las Vegas Ave.

Larry

bajabound2005 - 1-23-2007 at 09:39 PM

Dennis - this sounds like a local Nomad get-together coming up! You make the arrangements and YOU know where the Pacifico is!

I think the Chinese restaurant Dennis is referring to is/was the old King's Kitchen. It was in the small strip mall across the street from the post office. Became a small auto parts store for a number of years but I believe that's become something else, too.

I'm local and long enough in the tooth to remember all this, too. But the biggest loss was the loss of Henry's (Sernas) restaurant on Coast Hwy. I basically learned to drink beer and there and at Mexico Lindo in SJC. Olamendi's just isn't the same.

bigboy - 1-24-2007 at 03:30 PM

Yes, I drank a few at Henry's also. I remember the place was a real dive but with good Mexican food. I always felt as though the floor would give out since the termits had their way with the shack.
Another place that had the best Mexican food and a great bar was a restaurant called Burk's. It was accross the street from the Swallows in an old adobe building. Printed on the menu were the words " With a name like Burk's, it has to be good."

Larry

Mexitron - 1-24-2007 at 06:15 PM

Ah, the days of yore--Henry's and El Patio(Lucy's) were one of our basic food groups growing up. El Patio lives on but not so autentico anymore.

David K - 1-24-2007 at 06:43 PM

Wasn't this thread about Debra?

Debra (Travelpearl) at Montevideo, April, 2002

DENNIS - 1-24-2007 at 08:17 PM

Thanks BB...
Nice thought. In fact, we just had dinner together at different tables.
We'll try to gather all these folks together at your place since you have the largest refer full of Pacifico.
Thanks, Pal

DENNIS - 1-24-2007 at 08:40 PM

I didn't know Debra but after seeing her foto, I wish I had.

Hook ...... "Kings Kitchen" doesn't ring a bell. The name is right on the tip of my memory and I'll let you know when it comes to me. None the less, it was Gin Lee and his family that ran the place and I knew them fairly well.
Capo Auto Parts was fifty yards east, next to Browns gas station and trailer camp.
Olamendi's did well on the coast highway, not so well in Capo.

DENNIS - 1-24-2007 at 08:43 PM

Mexitron ----
Lucy's was GREAT.

Sallysouth - 1-24-2007 at 10:49 PM

Geez you guys! Can you at least find a restaurant or bar in town with the name "Debra":P in it!!??" Talk about taking a thread.....And BTW, you guys sound like some really old locals I might know..Where IS Debra????

[Edited on 1-25-2007 by Sallysouth]

DENNIS - 1-25-2007 at 07:22 AM

The "really old" part is right-on. One last thing, maybe, is the name of the Chinese restaurant, came to me in the middle of the night.......Jade East. Should have been called Debra's Jade East.

Is there anything stopping Debra from chiming in at any point?

Besides, I thought the thread already established that she is w/o computer, at this time.

thebajarunner - 1-25-2007 at 09:52 AM

THREAD THIEVES REIGN!!!
alas......

(hint, go start your own topic, give it a try, it is painless!)

so, where is Debra?

Bajalover - 1-25-2007 at 10:42 AM

Debra will :lol::moon::lol::lol: everyone once she's back on line. She'll chuckle for sure :wow:

Minnow - 1-25-2007 at 01:31 PM

I was thinking that maybe she couldn't bare to check in here as it would remind her too much of her amigo Mike H. Aug 1 till now is a loooonnngg time to be having computer problems. I hope she checks in soon. We all need to be caught up on her car, her kid, and how dreary it is in the NW.:tumble:

Sharksbaja - 1-25-2007 at 02:04 PM

She may be stuck in the muck. Believe it or not we haven't had 100mph winds, a foot of snow or pouring rain.....for at least a couple days. Life is good.

David K - 1-25-2007 at 06:17 PM

1-25-07: Debra is fine... look for a post from her soon... (yup, still no computer)

rogerj1 - 1-25-2007 at 11:19 PM

Since I live just down hwy 16 from Debra, I can vouch for the dreary weather. Flooding, windstorms, snow. Trees were blown down on people's houses, powerlines were down on the street, all very scary. It was nice to get a break from that with a trip last week to Cabo even though the weather in Cabo was subpar.

David K - 1-26-2007 at 12:44 AM

Debra once had a get-together of Washington state Nomads... I am sure she would like to talk Baja with you and others. She met Norm Christie who has the biggest collection of Baja publications for sale or trade... He is a neighbor of yours... look up posts here by 'Rockman'...

Debra - 1-26-2007 at 03:54 PM

Debra here........Yes I'm alive and well. I am having computer problems (too slow and I just won't use it, should have a new one soon)

And yes Tom, it did take me awhile to even check in at the board when I came back from Costa Rico and checked my cell phone message, the messages didn't sound good so I called Maryann and was shocked by the news.

As many of you know here Mike, Maryann, and Brendan and I have been very close over the years. He was the Grandfather that Brendan never had. He and Maryann have bailed my sorry butt out more that once! Never failing to offer aid even when Mike and I weren't speaking, (which happened more than once) Many of you have seen our banter on the board over the years, and we have had a couple of knock down drag out fights, but, I really loved Mike and (it may come as a surprize to some of you that think you know Mike and I and didn't really, some of you do) I know that he loved Brendan and I as part of his family.

It took me a couple of weeks to get myself together before I could even tell Brendan. I hadn't seen my son cry since he was a toddler. It broke my heart. Hopefully he has meet up with Don Jimmy and they are happily writing stories and swapping tall tales.

We love you Mike!

Now, David K.......

There isn't a better picture you could post, sheesh! (how about the one in my PJ's (just kidding, don't you dare!)

Tom...... you miss me? you miss me? Last time I remember you called me

"a chain smoking litter bug with no political views"

Tell the truth now, are you bi-polar by chance? Just kidding! Good to see you back........ Now, behave yourself like the old days, K? I'll be down at Maryann's place the end of March until I feel like heading north......so if you're around, stop by and I buy you a Cervasa.....

DENNIS - 1-26-2007 at 04:56 PM

The PJ shot?
What are we missing?

Minnow - 1-26-2007 at 05:09 PM

Thats my girl.

Next thing you will be calling me a putz. FYI, Mike was the one who called you that. I just put it in words.

YOu know you were ALWAYS one of my favorites. Lets tell the truth, we U2U'ed more than once. It almost sounds kinky. Don't tell my wife.:moon:

I was just wondering how you were, and have to say I am glad you are doing OK. YOu must have been Heartbroken when you got back and learned about Mike H. He was a good man, and will be missed by many.

Happy trails DEb, and remember it was me that was worried about you.

See you in Baja, you are welcome at my place anytime.:bounce:

Your not still riding quads are you?

Thanks minnow for bringing your thread full circle.

Hope you're back in touch with your bud.

Debra - 4-3-2007 at 11:30 AM

I'M BAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKK!

Maryann, Brendan and I pulled into Bahia last Wed. Will be here until at least the end of May (have new G-baby due) or stay until I feel like heading back north (like that ever happens! Or run out of money (that does happen ALOT!)

So all you Nomad and Nomadetts...........stop on by!

Who's here or when are you coming? I'm hoping that I can meet more of you in person this trip..........seems we do alot of zigging and zagging and miss each other.

And Tom, thanks for asking about me. Yes you and I have had many a U2 and such. That's what I kept telling people, "He's not such a bad guy, really fun to sit around a camp fire with.........., when he's in his "manic" state ;D

[Edited on 4-3-2007 by Debra]

Paulina - 4-3-2007 at 12:17 PM

Debra,

Till the end of May? :o

Cody was telling me that you were going to be there for Spring break, but I didn't believe her. Guess her ears and memory are functioning much better than mine!

We were thinking that you and Brendan would be there till the first of July. Cody is out of school on June 14th. The plan WAS to head down for 10 days or so so the kids could hang out. We bought a cool floating island at Costco to anchor up for them to use as base camp. I'm not guilt tripping you or anything:biggrin:....but hoping that you guys would still be there at the same time. We are also bringing the panga for fishing and island cruising. We'll be in touch in the mean time I'm sure.

Save some clams for us. Oh, and don't worry about Hector and Sunshine, I know they're a mess. It's on our list of chores to do this summer.

As always,
P<*)))><

Minnow - 4-3-2007 at 01:35 PM

Good for you Deb!!!!!!!!!!! I will be heading south soon too. Have a wonderful trip and raise a glass to Mike H for me.

Saludos

And Oh, STAY OFF THOSE QUADS!!!!!!!!!!!!

for those that don't know Debra suffered a nasty crash on a quad at punta Cabras several years back.

Debra - 4-3-2007 at 03:45 PM

P: There is a good chance we will still be here for your visit. Tell Cody not to worry yet.

Tom: Are you coming down this far? And it wasn't the crash that was nasty, it was the landing! (I broke my back) The crash was a 0 mpr roll over  wish I had a video of it, I'd make the 100 grand on "AFV" :bounce:

Guess what? the clutz has done it again! I broke my shoulder on my B-day the end of Jan. so I'm still in a sling (dang it hurts!) They are talking surgey "NO WAY! I'm going to Baja!" Just like the back, I told them as long as I can out run them I'm good! :P:P:P:lol::lol:

Sheesh ! let's see? Surgery? Baja? Which would everybody else here choose? DUH!!!!

Minnow - 4-3-2007 at 04:59 PM

BOLA is one place in Baja I have never been to. I am sure a great many of you out there are breathing a big sigh of relief.

Paulina - 4-3-2007 at 05:41 PM

:lol:BOLA? Where's that?

P<*)))><

alkijeff - 4-3-2007 at 06:04 PM

Debra,
My family and I will be in the area the second or third week in April. Sorry to hear Camp Gecko has stopped taking campers - I enjoyed Mike, Maryanne, and Terrance's company last year. Also sorry to hear you're accident-prone. Say hi to Maryanne for me.

Debra - 4-3-2007 at 08:43 PM

WOW Jeff! do I finally get to meet the family!? Don't go running off without stopping by! Where will you be camping? We will come see you, we move a little quicker than you will all your kids. :O

Sally, thanks on the congrats. (one more, this makes 5................I was hoping for a g-daughter, alas, another boy............it's okay) as to the "clutziness" it's a "word" I at least understand...............I save my theory for U2U.

4Baja, heard you are "defecting" Congrats. on your new digs.........see you soon.

alkijeff - 4-3-2007 at 09:35 PM

Debra,
Don't know where we'll be camping but will take recommendations from anyone who will offer. Haven't been to La Gringa in a few years and don't know what the other camps around the village are like. I'll figure out this u2u and then u2u you.
