How many Nomads have you met?

Bob H - 4-29-2007 at 03:49 PM

I'm not sure this has been covered before. But, I was thinking about how many Nomads I've met. I came up with the following (hope my memory is OK)...
BajaNomad (Doug) - thank you very much for all you do for us.
Mexray
David K and Baja Angel
Capt Mike
Surfer Jim
Square Circle
Elgatoloco
Hook
Mike and Mary Ann Humfreville
Tunaeater
Georock
Alkijeff
JRbaja
Neal Johns
Edie H

I bet David K has the most.... Looking forward to meeting more.
Bob H
PS: Who am I missing?

fdt - 4-29-2007 at 04:04 PM

I would have to ask David K, he always reminds me who I've met. He has the best memory for places, dates and faces.

Packoderm - 4-29-2007 at 04:21 PM

I met all of the Gecko people, DK and Baja Angel, and a few others.

I am pretty certain that I met Capt. Mike back in the mid '90s. My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I caught a panga to cross the river from the Serindad, and we stumbled into him in front of a trailer/house sort of thing on the north shore of the river. He was with a group and they had a bunch of fish, and he gave me a lesson on how to fillet one of them. I murdered the fish when I attempted to fillet it. I'm pretty certain it was him. He had the same beard and build more or less. He smiled and laughed as he talked. Capt. Mike, if that was indeed you, thanks for the filleting lesson.

capt. mike - 4-29-2007 at 05:12 PM

sorry packy, tweren't me in mid 90s.
we were basing clinic trips out of chivato then and i rarely went in to mulege except on separate vacas.
and then we stayed at the hotel, i knew few on the river then.
now all my local friends are on the river, in palapavilles about the area and down on the beach!

Bajafun777 - 4-29-2007 at 05:34 PM

Now Bob H., you might have started an idea here:light:. It might be kind of fun to do a printout of current members, then as you meet them have them sign off by their names. Carrying the paper around might be a chore but I image someone will sort it out and start a little contest. Might be fun to put in $5.00 dollars each and then set a year from the date and have a meeting place by the beach with another buy in of $20.00 dollars for BBQ, a 3 bottle of beer or 3 glasses of wine with all the soda and tea you can drink. Would just need a place that a lot of people could get to. Make it where you have to send in your money up front and once in no refunds, as it is too hard to do a meeting party without enough money up front. Just sometime to think about and maybe some of the lucky ones that are retired already could put the wheels in motion. Spin the wheel and see where it lands and the winner is:spingrin:????? David K - 4-29-2007 at 10:37 PM

Click on 'Member List' at the top of every Nomad page (in the blue bar) to see a list of Baja Nomads based on name (alphabetical), date registered or number of posts...

To see photos of Baja Nomads (for example to see what Capt. Mike looks like) then you will find that many have attended my Viva Baja parties of 2000-2003 or M's 'BBBB' events of 2001-2002 or Keri's booksigning events of 2003 to 2006 (and next Saturday!): I have photos from all of them (except BBBB #3) linked on my home page, www.VivaBaja.com.

Photos taken at last November's Viva Baja Cactus event can be found here on Baja Nomad's Baja Trip Reports forum.

Baja loving people who usually travel on their own (ie. nomads) occaisionally like to party together... It is fun to be with others who have 'Baja fever', like you!

No Steve, BBBB #3 was at Gonzaga Bay... (#1 and #4 at Cielito Lindo, # 2 at Guadalupe Canyon).

Isn't #3 when you 'graded' the road to Gonzaga from Hwy 1 with the Suzuki ahead of your moho?

Don't know if this counts

fdt - 4-30-2007 at 08:51 AM

But the first person I met was thru the amigos board for lunch at Cien Aņos in Tijuana was Lorenzo de Baja, LdB, then it was the people that attended the first David K's (Dr. Drip)Viva Baja party in 2000 and then Amo and David in Rosarito when I was working a very hard job covering up semi naked girls by the pool.:saint:

Debra - 4-30-2007 at 09:34 AM

Glenn, how soon we forget.........We did meet at, I think it was BBBB #1? I also didn't remember until I saw pictures. There were so many people it has taken me these 6 year. to remeet or put it together. 84 people showed up the the BBBB #1 so add those.

Sally, sorry, as I said just making a quick list from my aging memory wasn't the best way to do it, I missed many people, including you, sorry girlfriend!

a few more I remembered this morning.........

Desert Rat (HOW ON EARTH COULD I FOR GET HIM?! What a great time we had on the (what was it? 11 day trip?)

Baja Boy
Hot Shotchot (spelling?)

Glenn, I STAND CORRECTED  I guess we have talked so often and I've seen your picture, I fell I DO know you........we'll have to take care of that soon! Are you down at your Baja Casa? I'm thinking about taking a trip to Mulege when I get back from the book signing. I'll stop by and get that glich take care of! As far as "unforgetable" Yeah, I can be a REAL RIOT! :saint: ;D

Ken Bondy - 4-30-2007 at 01:18 PM

I feel like I know many of you personally but to the best of my knowledge I have only actually met Paulina and Dern face to face. I tried to meet BajaCactus once when I was gassing up at his station in El Rosario but he was off in Tijuana at the time. Oh well, maybe I'll meet more at next year's book signing at Keri's.

Regards to all, ++Ken++

Minnow - 4-30-2007 at 03:42 PM

Jeeeeezzzzus. Debra. Boo someone for putting their cigarette butts out on the beach and they will forever call you Mean-O. For your information that big long sand thing down by the waters edge is not an ash tray, and I hate smokers who throw their buts where ever they damn well please.:moon:

My list would be long as I went to a David K party and M's BBBB bash at Celito Lindo. What is more important to me though is that I have met some very close friends over the years thanks to this board and Amigo's. Nomads certainly is a connecting point to stay in touch with people who are born to wander, as well as a hub of valuable information. Saludos all.

Sylens, you forgot Lizard Lips. So you can add one more to your growing list. We are setting up another outing at Casa Mar in June, are you in?

But hope to meet several more this summer down south.

Debra - 4-30-2007 at 05:57 PM

Mean O. First of all AND I WILL SAY THIS LOUD AND CLEAR! I DON'T EVEN THROW BUTTS OUT IN THE DESERT, NOT INTO THE OCEAN! NOT ANYWHERE EXCEPT A FIREPIT, OR TRASH CAN! NEVER, NEV ER, NEVER! I got blamed when I made a comment about how I hated it when people toss butts, and I stated that it takes 12 FLIPING YEARS, for one butt to bio-degrate! Because someone happened to be drinking a bit too much when I posted that (I got blasted) and you chimed in, I chose to leave it alone)

Believe it or not, I am not the only smoker in Baja!

Tom, go back and look up the thread if you want to refresh your memory on the whole episode. Now, Go back to being Tom, I only call you "Mean O" as a term a affection of the old antics................Hugs, Debra

Minnow - 4-30-2007 at 06:46 PM

OK, no sweat. I'll get the story straight from now on. I listened to the wrong person I guess. I still love you.:P Even more now that I know you are a conscientious smoker. Now quit calling me Mean-O.

Tom,
I cannot speak for your experience with Debra's smoking manners, but I can vouch for her smoking ediquette around me. She is EXTREMELY aware of her surroundings and very responsible for her butt(s)! She will police others as well, even picking up remnants from those who view the world as their ashtray. I don't like it either, and have no problem saying so, but never have I had to say something to Debra.
Just my two pesos!

Plus I met Al G last night at the Serindad..this has been a good week for Nomad sightings!

Sorry for getting this thread into somthing other than intended.........that said.

Thank you "Mean O" (you started it when you adopted the handel "Meano",on your own, ( kind of changed the spelling when you were with the "Rabid Dog Board, my coined phrase for "that other place") and not "playing nice" as I said, I now use it as a term of endearment (between you and I)............no offence meant.

Paulina, thank you! Someone that I've "lived with" knows how I am about smoking and BUTTS!............Enough said............let's move on.........

"Mean O" you know how to U2...........so let's "kiss and make up!" and leave these nice people to their own conversations and not our rants, Hugs, Debra

Deb, It was Me No. Thats how the Mexicans say Minnow. Get it.

We have only met once for a short time, but I am beginning to feel like we are married.:lol::lol::o:no:

Now if I can just get you to quit smoking.

[Edited on 1-5-2007 by Minnow]

Debra - 5-1-2007 at 02:51 PM

Yeah Tom, I got "it" )" Me No" way back "then". forgive me? I changed it to MeanO...........make you a deal? I'll quit smoking when you quit bit**ing, Deal? In the mean time, how's about if we just play nice, or take it to U2 K? Let's not bother these nice people with our "marriage" OR, better yet, you show up to the booksigning and you and I can take it "outside", to the pool" we can both have a rant! You can tell me that I have "no political views" I can throw you into the pool (or my butts) :P

David K - 5-1-2007 at 03:40 PM

Debra, I am one who has received more than my share of attacks or worse by Me No Tom... I am pleasantly surprised to find that this is a new, kindler, gentler Minnow...

So, if this is true: "I'll quit smoking when you quit bit**ing, Deal?" You might start planning on using the patch or chewing gum!!:light:

Tom, no more bit**ing now!!!:tumble::spingrin::biggrin:

Skeet/Loreto - 5-2-2007 at 09:08 AM

I met many Nomads at the Baja Book Signing several years ago--Jimmy Smith, Baja Bernie and of course Capt. Mike--Who still owes me a Flight to Loreto.
Skeet/Loreto

bajaandy - 5-2-2007 at 09:35 AM

I could not name them all without forgetting some, so instead I'll just say that I've enjoyed meeting LOTS of nomads at the various Cultural Fiestas and at the El Rosario festivals over the years. In general I'd have to say you're all a bunch of crazy folks with a passion for Baja, and it's been fun meeting you! I look forward to meeting more nomads as the years go by.

Just for fun....

Paulina - 5-4-2007 at 10:03 AM

I got this sign via email today, making me think of this post. Sorry to go semi off topic. Besides the chat regarding the tossing of butts, there are cigarettes in baja as well as c-ckroaches, so it sorta fits.....

No Mads

Just thought of that!

I have had the great pleasure of meeting Shari, Serena, Diver, Comitan, jorgie, Jessie and BirdDog. Many of these will be friends for life.

I have engaged in and learned from great discussions with many on this list over topics far and wide. We benifited greatly from advice both general and specific from many on this list. Our Nomads friends enriched our recent three month trip to Baja. There are many on this list who we have become fond of and look forward to meet.

I also met Barb, don't know her Nomads handle, for a memorable Vagina dialogue in the parking lot of a grocery store in Ensenada when she was staring in Vagina Monologues this last winter.

I know that I met a couple more Nomads in passing, but do not recall their names.
