Proposed R.R. from Colonet

bacquito - 5-2-2007 at 08:55 AM

It was announced in the Yuma Daily Sun today that Union Pacific is not interested in bidding on the rail line coming up from Colonet and going through Yuma, Arizona and since Union Pacific owns the rails in the Yuma area it is doubtful that the proposed line will ever go through Yuma. Mexican officials feels this might delay or cause more probems in going forward with the Colonet Port project.:wow:

They will probably get the Red Chinese to build it for them... I hear there will be several million 'extra or expendable' men soon in China.

bajalou - 5-2-2007 at 06:25 PM

Just cause UP doesn't want to look at building it doesn't mean that someone else won't and still connect to the UP in the Yuma area.

Crusoe - 5-2-2007 at 06:46 PM

Ok David....... With all due respect to you ........Are you just spreading rumors or what?.......Where did you here this " Several Million Extra and Expendable Men" story???...... Probably what will really take place is when the Port is built..... Global Warming !!...... will have kicked in big time and flooded the newly constructed harbor.......DO NOT EVER IGNORE...... the scientific information that is out there, that there is a problem because of to many humans using to much of this planets resources. The sky may not be falling for you, and where you live, but for some people , and animals and fish populations, its a completely different world now. :fire:

Burlington Northern will probably pick up the slack and make the cross-town traffic in Flag even worse.Actually UP is not blaming Yuma opposition for this decision to cut bait. Why should they? They have Eminent Domain since the 1800's and can do what they like. They blame Mexican Gov't lack of response to specific Q's for the pullout.

Most likely the Port project will continue forward. If it does not, it won't be UP's pullout to blame, just the usual Mexican Government's adroitness at screwing up large scale development projects.

It was only one of the big stories in world news the past week... in summary, the commie government orders it's slaves (citizens) to only have one child. As China is mostly rural, male children are prefered. The female babies are aborted because they are pressured to have one child.

Well, 18 years later you will have millions of males with no hope of having a 'normal' life. Just how will the Chinese communist government deal with all these young, angry men? Take a guess...

bancoduo - 5-2-2007 at 09:11 PM

They can be R.R. crossing guards in Flag. Then again; you will have a huge pool of helpers to choose from. You will be in "hog heaven".

"All The Expendeble MEN".........They will all end up in So. California........What makes you think they want to WORK!!!! All they really want is a lowerd Honda with a loud exhaust system and some baggy basketball clothes and a dumb hat on the side of their head and to be able to roar around Garden Grove at 100 mph.,high on meth, terrorizing tax paying citizens and have the State of California support them and their bad habbits, and life styles.

Nice diatribe there Crusoe. Since you mentioned Garden Grove I would suspect that those to whom you refer are of Vietnamese origin and not Chinese. But hey, they're all gooks to you right!

I wonder how much influence the Longshoremen have on
the railroads?

Hate to say it but this one needs to get back on track!

David K - 5-8-2007 at 07:08 PM

Glad to see you get it Woody!

Sad that so many are totally ignorant of conditions in communist countries or that life everywhere must be just like here!

Oso, to help... I made a comment that since the U.S. may not want to build the railroad, Mexico MIGHT invite China to bid on it. The big international story that week was there are millions of young males approaching adulthood with no female mates, as they were aborted or killed at birth to not violate the communist one child law (male children are prefered in rural China). Just want people to be aware of what really may come of that male over-population in a totalatarian dictatorship.

Woody got it. Crusoe doesn't know that there is no freedom to immigrate from a communist country. The Vietnamese in Garden Grove are there because the communist won and those who helped the U.S. would have been butchared.

Railroads in Baja is more fun to talk about... so go ahead, nobody is stopping anyone from adding railroad comments here!

So, I guess you think Oso can't read? Just because people don't agree with you, doesn't mean they don't understand what you said do YOU get that?

It's been a few days since I've spewed hate, and had to get my fix.

P.S. - let's do a small test. Do you understand what pluperfect means?

David K - 5-8-2007 at 08:02 PM

Roberto, you just don't understand the concept of FREEDOM of speech or ideas, based on facts.

I don't care what anyone thinks... that's their freedom... get it?

Sharing ideas or information IS what this forum is about. Using it to do personal bad talk about me is not what it is for and is against the rules here. IF you don't like it here, there are plenty of other sites where your concepts or beliefs will not be challenged... as there just isn't any audiance for it.

Don't you have ANYTHING to contribute here that doesn't mention me in it? If there is a psychologist out there, I would be interested in reading what Roberto's condition of 'DK bashing fascination' is!

Yet another nonsensical post from our hero - the King of Baja. I was talking about your repeating to Oso what you had already posted, sir. WTF does freedom of speech have to do with anything. Now, tell me, you were head of your debating class, weren't you?

And, since you bring up psychologists, what do you think the diagnosis would be for you? My money is on narcissist.

Me, I'm just a hater who has nothing to contribute, both on this forum and in real life.

David K - 5-8-2007 at 08:26 PM

"Me, I'm just a hater who has nothing to contribute, both on this forum and in real life. "

Finally something factual!:light:

Oso's post said that he didn't know why the railroad thread got talking about China... I responded.

You should avoid betting... It never occurs to you that some people just love to share what they have with others without needing any compensation? A forum is for sharing and helping... It shouldn't be just for taking. How about a free 'got baja?' sticker?

Just how did you get to this negative state in your own mind in your current life,....and start attacking people, most people are looking for a positive expierience, who have a valid interest in saving small living things in Baja? Its just as hard for a small bird to have a drink of water than.....if you cant have a full tank of gasoline...... Maybe harder........ think about it and get educated and finally grow up a bit.!!!!!!When was the last time you could not have a full tank of gas? What did you do????? And what did you do to produce that tank of gas?? Just what were you thinking about...... ?????? Donuts Maybe!!!!Just try being totaly dead straight and honest......,And please tell us what you know about being a longeshoreman and humping bags of grain on your back for a miniumum wage? Please be more considerate about somethings. Get in touch with some longshoremen. They were all bonified union members that made this country what it is. They woudn't even think of driving a Toyota.

Bajafun777 - 5-8-2007 at 11:05 PM

All I know is I miss the railroads that had tourist cars on them to go down Mexico. Used to catch a train out of Mexicali to the Rock and it was a long way down but with an ice chest full of beer and a bag of tacos the ride was an easy stress reliever. It was funny the first time I went down to the Rock and the train stops in the desert with some sand dunes. I thought where is the town and pow here comes taxis over the small dunes to pick us up to take us back to town. The hotel/bar was setup to greet all of us and get the party going. Then you could also load you empty ice chest up on the way back with the shrimp and man was it good from here. Trains are something Mexico needs to get back on line and not just in Copper Canyon. David keep the faith and the great posts coming and Crusoe and Roberto stay calm and cool. This world has a lot of things to get mad or upset about but I doubt this Reply Post would be on the top 1000. Friends to Friends let the good times in Baja roll. Later-------bajafun777

David K - 5-8-2007 at 11:28 PM

I don't attack people Crusoe, so please show me where I took a personal shot at you.

Here is the place where I was responding to your responce to me and it is based on the comment you made, (thinking the Chinese would or could leave China to live in Garden Grove like those you said were already there): "Crusoe doesn't know that there is no freedom to immigrate from a communist country. The Vietnamese in Garden Grove are there because the communist won and those who helped the U.S. would have been butchared."

If you are not open to learn new things, like the Asians in Garden Grove are Vietnamese not (mainland) Chinese... then that will result in flawed thinking about many things that will be presented to you in life.

I post a lot here because it is fun to, and I like sharing information. Baja is a favorite vacation destination since I was a kid.

Most of the people here are friends or friendly and you will note that all is very smooth until one of the small group of people who don't think there should be two sides to a story or another point of view expressed jumps in and gets all worked up...

If you believe in what you think then be happy with that... Post facts or logic if you would like to convince others to support your idea... That's what I am doing and it doesn't take a way your side of the story if it is true. Have some faith... I am not trying to make enemies... I try and make friends and connect people via this forum to help more people have more friends wo love Baja. Look at my Baja oriented parties and photo posts of Baja people... Does that look like I am sombody who likes to fight or get people to hate??? HELLO!!??

This will probably stir people up but...
When I drove past Colonet last week I didn't see much redeeming about the place. As far as agriculture it looks like a disaster. Total dustbowl. Do they have water? Is there any topsoil left.
I haven't had time to go over to he Point but so what if they build a megaport?
Okay, I'm against it only because it's too close to San Quintin where I have a fishcamp. Plus, I work in Long Beach and know just how filthy a commercial port is. Long Beach has the worst air in SoCal and that's saying something. The cancer rate in that area has skyrocketed.
But what does Colonet really have going for it? Anything?

woody with a view - 5-9-2007 at 05:39 PM

THANK YOU for the redirection. the area you mention has much water, if slightly salty water is your thing. brackish might describe it better, since it is so close to the ocean the wells are not sweet.

Okay, that's the same as San Quintin as a result of overpumping the ground water. I have the same doubts about San Quintin as an agriculture area. There is sweet wate availible but it must be pumped closer to the mountains.
But Colonet doesn't look anywhere near as sucessful as San Quintin for agriculture.
My other reluctance for the megaport is traffic. Ya, they say they will build a rail line but I think alot of trucks will still be headed back to the border area. I'm sure there is plenty of rail lines in San Diego.

A number of years ago I did a plant species list on the bluffs on top of the mesa. In one area less than half a football field in size there were about 150 different kinds of plants growing. Really quite a collection of species which were a mix of plants from the southern extent of distribution from California areas, species at the northern extent from Central Baja areas, and the plants that normally grow in the Colonet region. So if you're a plant person, botanically the Mesa and the hills around there are quite interesting..not in an aspect-dominant way like the Central Desert with the Boojums and Cardons, but very diverse.

Great shot Tron. Those of us on the west coast like the wind, the fog, the waves, even that beast of a longitudinal current. The bonuses include the beauty of the coast that those conditions breed. Of course, putting a port and a city of 250,000 people at Colonet might cramp that a bit, but hey, we gotta do whatever we can to get those Chinese imports into the U.S., right? Don't worry about the fact that China owns our trade deficit. I'm sure they'll be cool if there are ever any issues. Doh!

You mean there is no freight going out of SD? Don't you guys have cargo ships coming into your harbor?
My point is they don't really need a rail line to Yuma. They already have Mex1 going to the border. Maybe that new road (201) to Otay is for truck traffic.
All the containers have to do is get to San Berdo. They have lots of trains.
I think that megaport will make a traffic nightmare.

David K - 5-10-2007 at 06:11 AM

I think the rail line going to Yuma was the fact that there is no easy route for a train from Colonet to San Diego... topography has the line going to Valle de Trinidad from San Vicente area then through the San Matias Pass to the upper San Felipe Desert.

This was the route proposed by the English in San Quintin when they started the railroad north from there...

bajalou - 5-10-2007 at 06:26 AM

The one rail line from San Diego goes to the LA area before connecting to a line heading east. At one time there was the SD&AE from San Diego to El Centro, winding thru the mountains and into Mexico for a bit, but this line has been abandoned for many years. Probably not suitable for the long container cars with the way it crossed the mountains. To handle the volume of containers proposed that are destined for the mid-west, gulf and east coasts, a better route has to be chosen. The port plan doesn't seem to be trying to get containers headed for anywhere on the West coast.

Kinda makes sense DK...maybe the ships don't want to go around the Cabo though.

Thank You Mexitron for such a nice post and picture. I once spent the most of a spring and summer surfing there, 1961, and trying to figure out life, as a misguided youth camped there!!!!! And feeling there was absolutley not a more and beautiful spot on the planet. You know what? I was right . That is the essence of Baja, very subtle. The fog, and gentle clouds, and sky, and the sounds from the sea, all give to the ambience of the flowers and sea breeze. I was very interstested in small butterflys then, and there was alot I could not identify. Do you know how many species exist there, and if their populations are still strong? What a great picture!! Thank You. Just flowers growing.

Cost the ships say too much time to sail up the Sea of Cortez. They want a fast turnaround with a load back to the far end of the Pacific and another quick return. The whole impetus for a project is turnaround time. Saving the time it takes to go thru the Panama canal to the east coast or Europe. Possibly somewhere else farther south on the mainland, but then the rail time is increased.

Think I read somewhere the Kansas City Southern RR now owns one of the Mex railroads and believes that it will get traffic that comes into Mexico at the port of Zihuatanejo. They even set up a customs facility in KC so trains can come right thru and do the paper work there.

The worldwide transfer of containers and their contents is really big business and a lot of work is being put into trying to make it more effecient
