This shot was taken about 7pm yesterday afternoon. As you can see the people are really enjoying the beach next to the jetty. The construction is
going to be pavilions for the fishing pangas. You know a place for the blood and guts of the catch of the day. I will sorely miss the palapas.
Work going on

More work

We think that the dredge barge will be used when the mouth is opened.
If you really gotta go

Pipe to dredge

The Old Lighthouse
bajajudy - 6-16-2007 at 02:09 PM
I have never seen the lighthouse on any of Puerto Los Cabos plans. Dont know exactly what that means.
bajajudy - 6-16-2007 at 02:10 PM
The first picture was taken just below the lighthouse, BTW

Judy.... Is there a ramp at the new marina, or a place over the sand, where a private boater can launch a small boat (21' - 23'), and leave a
truck/trailer? If so, what is the cost.
bajajudy - 6-17-2007 at 07:18 AM
Bill
It is not really a marina yet. just a pond. They have not broken through to the sea.
They have put in at least one ramp. It will be next to where the pangas will be docked. I should have taken a picture of that. As I said we are
assuming that the barge is here to dredge the mouth when they break through. The crew that is here to work on it say they will only be here a month so
they must be almost ready to break through..
Osa, what do you hear?
Tomas Tierra - 6-17-2007 at 10:57 PM
Judy,
where are they putting the sand??can we expect a new surf spot somewhere nearby..
osoflojo - 6-18-2007 at 12:32 PM
Judy, that may not be a lighthouse, It may just be a navagation light.
bajajudy - 6-18-2007 at 01:54 PM
TT. the guys are still surfing on the sand bar by the estuary. Who knows what will happen in the years to come. One of the concerns of the
environmentalists is that the sea naturally fills sand in on the lee side of a jetty. They are concerned that eventually the sand between the jetty
and the mouth of the estuary will become so wide that the estuary will not be able to break through like it does now when there is an exceptionally
high tide or a lot of rain. This will also be a problem on the lee side of the other jetty which will be the mouth. I dont know exactly how they
will keep the mouth open. This natural activity of the interaction between the jetties, the sea and the sand has already almost filled in the inside
of the other jetty.
Oh lazy bear
Hadnt thought of that. Does anyone have a nav chart that could look and see what it is called?
Erosion/buildup
Osprey - 6-18-2007 at 02:09 PM
Judy, don't have a map. Here's a photo of what downshore drift can do around jetties -- creates 2 problems, buildup on one side (which can creep
around the end of the jetty, fill the entrance) and erosion on the other side which removes the beach on that side.
bajajudy - 6-18-2007 at 02:22 PM
Seahawk
That is exactly what we are talking about.
I missed this shot the other day when I was posting pix.
This is taken from the beach facing Punta Gorda. You will notice all the grass and condos. As early as 2 years ago none of this was there. This is
the side that will erode but they have hotels planned for this stretch.

Here is your ramp. The pile of rocks in the background is the jetty.

And here is the cross that overlooks the marina
bajajudy - 6-21-2007 at 03:42 PM
A little better prospective
bill erhardt - 6-21-2007 at 05:48 PM
Thanks, Judy. Here's another shot of the ramp. I was in Cabo Tuesday and drove on out to Playita to check it out. It looks like the ramp was an
afterthought. It is real steep and will only accommodate one launch at a time. Anybody using it had better have good brakes and four wheel drive to
retrieve anything bigger than a panga. Maybe management will be sufficiently embarrassed about such a ramp in their fancy facility that there will be
no user fee.
bajajudy - 6-21-2007 at 07:05 PM
Bill
You drove right by my place....please stop next time.
No fee...dream on. I heard what it was but dont remember.

Judy...... Thanks, I will. I was down on a Costco run and to let my rock-climbing son tackle the rocks on the Sol Mar beach. I was in search of a
small A/C, mattresses and fans. Costco had everything I needed and hotdogs, pizza and chicken wraps to boot.
Tomas Tierra - 6-22-2007 at 11:08 PM
Judy,
thanx for the updates and photos..interesting to see the changes..erosion and longshore current are a wicked thing..
similar situation in front of my house. Harbor jetties..I live on the "fat"side of the horbor.. they dredge something like 2.5 million cubic yards of
sand out of here to replenish the other side every two years..crazy..hopefully they won't have to do it there, its a mess...
