The new look at La Playita

This shot was taken about 7pm yesterday afternoon. As you can see the people are really enjoying the beach next to the jetty. The construction is going to be pavilions for the fishing pangas. You know a place for the blood and guts of the catch of the day. I will sorely miss the palapas.

More work

We think that the dredge barge will be used when the mouth is opened.

The Old Lighthouse

I have never seen the lighthouse on any of Puerto Los Cabos plans. Dont know exactly what that means.

Judy.... Is there a ramp at the new marina, or a place over the sand, where a private boater can launch a small boat (21' - 23'), and leave a truck/trailer? If so, what is the cost.

Bill
It is not really a marina yet. just a pond. They have not broken through to the sea.
They have put in at least one ramp. It will be next to where the pangas will be docked. I should have taken a picture of that. As I said we are assuming that the barge is here to dredge the mouth when they break through. The crew that is here to work on it say they will only be here a month so they must be almost ready to break through..
Osa, what do you hear?

TT. the guys are still surfing on the sand bar by the estuary. Who knows what will happen in the years to come. One of the concerns of the environmentalists is that the sea naturally fills sand in on the lee side of a jetty. They are concerned that eventually the sand between the jetty and the mouth of the estuary will become so wide that the estuary will not be able to break through like it does now when there is an exceptionally high tide or a lot of rain. This will also be a problem on the lee side of the other jetty which will be the mouth. I dont know exactly how they will keep the mouth open. This natural activity of the interaction between the jetties, the sea and the sand has already almost filled in the inside of the other jetty.

Oh lazy bear
Hadnt thought of that. Does anyone have a nav chart that could look and see what it is called?

Erosion/buildup

Judy, don't have a map. Here's a photo of what downshore drift can do around jetties -- creates 2 problems, buildup on one side (which can creep around the end of the jetty, fill the entrance) and erosion on the other side which removes the beach on that side.

Seahawk
That is exactly what we are talking about.

I missed this shot the other day when I was posting pix.
This is taken from the beach facing Punta Gorda. You will notice all the grass and condos. As early as 2 years ago none of this was there. This is the side that will erode but they have hotels planned for this stretch.

Bill
Here is your ramp. The pile of rocks in the background is the jetty.

Thanks, Judy. Here's another shot of the ramp. I was in Cabo Tuesday and drove on out to Playita to check it out. It looks like the ramp was an afterthought. It is real steep and will only accommodate one launch at a time. Anybody using it had better have good brakes and four wheel drive to retrieve anything bigger than a panga. Maybe management will be sufficiently embarrassed about such a ramp in their fancy facility that there will be no user fee.

Judy...... Thanks, I will. I was down on a Costco run and to let my rock-climbing son tackle the rocks on the Sol Mar beach. I was in search of a small A/C, mattresses and fans. Costco had everything I needed and hotdogs, pizza and chicken wraps to boot.
