Parasites for dinner

bajajudy - 8-23-2007 at 06:29 PM

When we went to the deposito for supplies, a bunch of my fishing buds were hanging around the bed of their pickup busy bagging up fish. I bought a big dorado and a small piece of tuna for sashami. I have the tuna in the freezer killing off those buggars. Actually, I have always put tuna in the freezer before serving it raw but just because it makes it slice so much better. Now where is that wasabi and pickled ginger...yum.

DENNIS - 8-23-2007 at 06:33 PM

Parasites? Yummy.........
The things Rachel Ray forgot to mention.

Watched it a couple times. I thought...."what a cheap B_____" because she failed to tip both times. That will teach her...

DENNIS - 8-23-2007 at 07:05 PM

She has a show on the food channel......"Thirty minute meals." She takes her show on the road and visits restaurants etc. I really havn't watched it all that much but from what I've seen, her upbeat personality and five star looks have helped her career. Oh, yeah.....I think she has a pile of cook books out as well. You may be able to find out about her through that avenue.
Can't imagine why she wouldn't leave a tip, like Sharky says. She reportedly makes six million bucks a year.

Halboo - 8-23-2007 at 07:53 PM

Word behind the scenes is she's a chain smokin' boozer who's rude to the staff.
But I know nuttin' honey.

Sallysouth - 8-23-2007 at 10:01 PM

Rachel Ray has NO clue about Baja (probably never even heard of it) Or Ceviche. She is a "bobble head" goof ball IMHO! Don't even bother Googling her Judy. What a Dork she is, but now, a wealthy Dork!:wow:I have seen some of her shows and she makes money on hotdog recipes that make me ill just thinking about them.:barf:(wait a sec, maybe you would after reading above posts!)

Wouldn't you like to make 6 mil cooking hot dogs?
Anyway, the reference wasn't to her kitchen abilities or her vices. It was about parasites.

Fish Parasites

Halboo - 8-24-2007 at 07:57 AM

Probably more then you want to know about fish parasites
can be seen here:

Personally I think the risk is way overblown by media that love to pander to the many-fold fears of our society. Look at the often hysterical anti-bacteria commecials as an example. The truth is bacteria and parasites will be around long after humans are departed from the earth. A heathly individual with a strong immune system can easily overcome a few parasites, most pelagic fish such as tuna harbor very few parasites anyway, so as long as you are sure of a very fresh source you should be fine.
In reality the risk become seriously ill from an undercooked burger is far greater than the raw fish risk! My thought is that our own societal angsts are giving this too much weight.

check out this link it seems to be a fairly balanced view:

Hey you know that was some of the best sashimi I have had in a long time!
I am with you astro, I am not afraid. I also think that these things get blown all out of proportion.
However, I did not even go to the site provided by Halboo.
Nor did I read Sharks post.
Ignorance is bliss...and I feel blissful today....heck I got rain!:bounce:

Interesting article. Makes me wonder what interesting critters inhabit the innards of pen-raised blue fin.

astrobaja - 8-24-2007 at 09:33 AM

Judy,

I love sashimi too! And I've had some of the best in Baja, such wonderful fresh fish!!
Check out this pic, an appetizer plate from Laja in the wine area. Yellowtail sashimi medallions with slices of white beet, cucumber, and a Japanese herb that was peppery kinda like watercress.... totally delicious!!!
How can ya not like that!
