Well, there's the Marina Coral, but it's pricey and no beach. Very safe for trailers.
Nice pool for the kiddies, though.bajabound2005 - 8-30-2007 at 05:29 PM

Oops, I missed that? In November??? That seems odd. Let me suggest this place -- not right on the beach but easy to get to the beach: Ensenada
Beach House; cute motel on the road to Estero. Owned by an American who seems pretty security minded. The website is www.ensenadabeachhouse.com It's right next to Mario's Restaurant (the former chef at Estero...). He (Tom) has a nice pool and I think he locks
the place up tight at night (gated parking).DENNIS - 8-30-2007 at 06:29 PM
Nice little bar there as well.bajabound2005 - 8-30-2007 at 06:36 PM
well, then -- that's the place!DENNIS - 8-30-2007 at 06:38 PM
Of course.larry - 8-30-2007 at 07:52 PM
It seems strange that the Estero Beach Hotel is booked up in November. It is huge. I stopped there a couple years ago in December and it was close to
deserted.Paulina - 8-30-2007 at 07:59 PM

I'm thinking it's because of the Baja 1000. ???bajabound2005 - 8-30-2007 at 08:19 PM
the Baja1000 is nov 10-16 --- late November would make it US Thankgiving but even that is 11/22 this year!Sallysouth - 8-30-2007 at 10:17 PM
I just spent four days at Estero, had one of the "cottages" right on the point. It was awesome.I was told by one of the sons, Louis Novelo, That his
father, Antonio,is completing the development on the penninsula that was originally started being built as a casino, and that is is soon to be open
and ready for business.I have known this family for fifty years and would definately consider my next vacation at this new resort.I will try to find a
link to this tomorrow. As far as Estero and being booked goes, well, that makes no sense at all(in your timeframe) I would call them again, if you
really want to stay there, and ask for the person in charge of resos.Email does NOT work with them .U2U me if you want more info.bajabound2005 - 8-31-2007 at 03:52 AM
The new development that Novelo is completing is not at the site of what was to be the casino - the casino location is the former Baja Beach &
Tennis Club which has been closed down since (actually prior to) the eviction (Oct 2000 if memory serves). The new Novelo property is located in the
area known as Agua Caliente a stone's throw from Campo La Jolla. Looks to be about complete and looks like condos or time-shares perhaps?
Agua Caliente is not something I've seen mentioned on this board. There are thermal springs running under the beach into the bay. At low tide there
are lots of folks out there digging holes for their oceanfront hot tub. The sand is so hot you can barely stand on it. On cool days you can see the
steam rising off the sand. If you're in the area this is something to experience.DENNIS - 8-31-2007 at 06:22 AM
He stopped working on that project. No word on the streets as to why.bajabound2005 - 8-31-2007 at 06:28 AM
We've seen people there working the past couple of weeks. He also ponied up $10k for the road repair!DENNIS - 8-31-2007 at 06:33 AM
Well, as you know, the rumor mill grinds away. I heard yesterday that he is withholding his generous contribution and that, for reasons unknown,
work has stopped.
My source of indisputable information is Paty's so, who knows.
I'm on my way down there now so, I'll get recharged with more stories of local life as it is, isn't, should be, will be, won't be' might be,
might not be...........well, you know.

we'll await your report!Sallysouth - 8-31-2007 at 08:58 AM
Yes Bajabound, your location is correct, not where the unfinished "casino" used to be.I spoke to a Novelo this AM and work is still a go on the
project.Road and all...
its been full to nearly

every time i wanted to stay there. holiday or not - just WHEN is their down season??
the int'l flyin sams are having their convention there 3rd weekend in oct and those rates are really high even for a group. personally i think they
got ripped on the rates, 100 a nite for the basic room that shows as $70 on their site.
oh well - i'd pay it during summer but oct? that's when the SOC is best!bacquito - 8-31-2007 at 06:04 PM
The last time we were in Estero beach they wanted $10.00 per person per car to simply look around.DENNIS - 8-31-2007 at 06:11 PM
That place has always been priced to keep the locals out. Used to be able to buy a real Rolex in the gift shop. Probably still can. I know lots of
people come to Baja to buy a Rolex so, give'm a try. They might validate your parking with purchase.bajabound2005 - 8-31-2007 at 09:13 PM
wow! we've only gone there in the very off season (winter) --we stopped in for lunch a couple times (the food was lousy at best) and there was NO ONE
around any time we were there. The summer is a different story... but I'm guessing next week we'd have our pick of rooms (but, heck we live here!).
Going there next week for lunch with the ladies...we'll park a review here! (on a new topic under the restaurant reviews!)Sallysouth - 9-1-2007 at 11:07 AM
DENNIS, the gift shop is no longer! All closed and the museum, as it were, is all ripped up also.Bajabound, try the mexican combo for lunch.I am a
pretty picky eater and the chile relleno that comes with the combo was one of the BEST I have ever had! Lots of chile and cheese and not too much
fluff.DENNIS - 9-1-2007 at 12:13 PM
It's [obviously] been a while since I was there. I have to get out more often.
Thanks for the update, Sally.Paulina - 9-1-2007 at 04:43 PM

Thanks for the update, Sally.

Regarding the skunk, here's what we know about it. You may have heard the story, but here's our version...
He got it out, but then it got scared by a cat and ran back inside. Another time he was able to get it out, it wouldn't stop crawling up the front of
his screen door.
The last Dern heard from Jeff, the skunk was in his kitchen cabinets rearranging the dishes. Jeff went online and found receipes for getting skunks
out of the house. One was mothballs, but he didn't have any and we were all out of them over at our house, and another was a habanero (sp?) chili
spray mixture that he was going to cook up.
The skunk hasn't sprayed anything yet, it's cruising the house, not scared of anything, so I think he should just get it a cat box. We've all had mice
in and out of the house over the years, but skunk poop in the cupboards is a little too much.
He told the Pabloff's about his delema and they laughed and just said, Welcome Back! Tom at the gate is calling it "Casa Zorillo".

That is exactly what Dern said to him.
The next time he's able to get it outside maybe he should shoot it with his slingshot? Jeff has great aim.
One thing we did here at the states when we had a family of skunks living under our house was to put flea bombs all around the perimeter, setting them
all off during the day while we knew they were there sleeping. They left and didn't come back.
Maybe Jeffy le Pew should get on here and start a new skunks in baja thead.DENNIS - 9-1-2007 at 06:42 PM
Jeezo...........No firearms allowed in Mexico. We can't even protect ourselves from skunks.Baja&Back - 9-1-2007 at 09:26 PM

How did this thread get to the subject of Skunks?(and how to get rid of them) I know I am guilty of invading a few threads but this one should have
been a newly created thread.Oh well, seems all is well and soulpatch just let it be .Maybe he got the info he was looking for. For what is worth,
soulpatch, Alfonso is a great guy and very helpful if you explain what your concerns/problems are.bajabound2005 - 9-2-2007 at 07:01 PM

Tried that the last TWO times - albiet - it's been a couple years since we've been there. At the time, I thought it was worst of Mexican food I'd
ever had...I was thinking of going for something fishy. And, not to boast (but we DID win the chli cook-off) I think I do, IN FACT, make the best
chili rellenos...and if there is ever a chili relleno cook-off; I'm there.
As for the skunks - that's just all neighbors talking amonst themselves on the board!Paulina - 9-2-2007 at 07:12 PM
Morphing this thread with skunk talk was pretty stinky of me.
Sorry.

Hey, Dennis did that!DENNIS - 9-2-2007 at 07:51 PM
Yep. It was me. Sorry, Sally, et al. Like I said way earlier, threads morph. Some need it, some arn't ready but, it's just a matter of time
till relavant comment is exhausted and the participants arn't. Usually, threads with thin substance quickly give way to offspring, not that this
was one of them. But, when the last word has been said, the last word has been said. It's good that they live on through progeny. A legacy, of
sorts.Paulina - 9-2-2007 at 07:59 PM

Aw, who really cares.Dennis you made a very good point. And BB2007, when can I/we partake in your delicacy? I found(now that this thread has "gone
south") a recipe that requires beer in the batter.Whacha think? It also has cumin and a few other ingredients.Ok, still, those were REALLY good
rellenos at Estero.I was told to try them by the local Gringos that live there. If you go, ya gotta let me/us know how they measure up to yours. And
yeah I know you won the cook-off and felicidades for that!So are you gonna open up some kinda eatery or just tease us???!!Sally
