bajajudy - 9-1-2007 at 12:35 PM

Jim says 6.3 centered off shore in the Sea of Cortez
25.141N 109.66W

DENNIS - 9-1-2007 at 12:40 PM

6.4 ? ...............That will get your attention.

BajaBruno - 9-1-2007 at 12:40 PM

I don't see any new cracks in the casita. Any damage downtown?

JESSE - 9-1-2007 at 12:41 PM

Considering the strenght and location of the earthquake, i wonder if theres a worry of any tsunami activity.

longlegsinlapaz - 9-1-2007 at 12:47 PM

:rolleyes:Yes, the earth DID move!! As did the casa...very disorienting feeling!!:( I looked outside & my patio glider rockers were rocking like a perpetual motion machine!

Barry A. - 9-1-2007 at 12:50 PM

Sounds like Baja is moving north some more------horizontal movement, which would not cause Tsunamis. Vertical movement causes tsunami's, I believe.

Barry

Happened right smack in the middle of a fault

Cervisin - 9-1-2007 at 12:58 PM

BCSTech - 9-1-2007 at 12:58 PM

Felt it here in TS but very minor. Thought the dog had bumped my chair.

shari - 9-1-2007 at 01:07 PM

Is there a history of significant earthquakes and damage in southern and central Baja?

Cervisin - 9-1-2007 at 01:25 PM

hmmm, Joel, looking for my crystal ball (sorry, maybe or better, for sure no correct english) yet more interested in future..... :bounce:

BajaBruno - 9-1-2007 at 01:40 PM

Joel,
check out the USGS website--there's a lot of good historical data there:

comitan - 9-1-2007 at 01:42 PM

Joel

Personally, I don't think it pays to worry about something that you have absolutely NO CONTROL over------just like everything else in Mexico--if it happens, it happens!!

------sorta like "global warming", or cooling, which has been going on for as long as the geological record has recorded, and then some---------just adapt, and go with the flow.

shari - 9-1-2007 at 01:50 PM

NO history of quakes here but we had 3 months of em...sometimes up to 40 a day!! every few minutes and up to 6.0...the town was evacuated for a week by the military...it was a BIG deal and none of us will ever forget those horrific months. Nearly all the homes suffered damages and we remain psycologically scarred by it. Still have small tremors every week but nothing big again thank goodness.

When was that? Makes me think about putting in more rebar when we eventually (long way off) build something...

oxxo - 9-1-2007 at 02:00 PM

Felt in Los Cabos, strong enough to almost tip the plant stand over. I checked my watch, it was 1:14.

comitan - 9-1-2007 at 02:24 PM

Joel

Thats a good point when we built I was not happy with the 2nd story so had them put and extra beam, and went down and bought 10 lengths of 1/2" rebar, so when we had the quake we never got out of our recliners.

Shimmer - 9-1-2007 at 03:27 PM

Here is the spec sheet on the specific quake with many reference maps.

Fault line quake...... I was in the middle of a great siesta... missed it.

Spring of 1874, I think, Loreto shook for weeks and was virtually flattened.

amir - 9-1-2007 at 07:50 PM

I told my wife, "WOW, sweetie, the earth moved for me"; and now I find out it was only an earthquake...
