We are going to be staying at the Hotel Calfia next weekend for a wedding. I have read some reviews stating that the rooms were dirty and small and
the conditions were horrorible. These seem to be recent reviews of the place. Has anyone on this website stayed there and give a really honest review
of the place? fdt - 9-7-2007 at 10:49 AM
While the setting is beautiful, the reviews you read for the accomodations are correct IMHMO.
A very polite review would be : Rooms are not large at all and they seem extreemly well used.

Food sucks
Rooms are very small
Everything is filthy
Drinks are high priced and bad
Road noise, construction noise and dogs barking all night
Yes, it is a perfect place for a wedding and a gringo weekend.rayfornario - 9-7-2007 at 01:28 PM
Thanks! I have heard negative reviews about it but there have been a few positive ones also. I generally stay at Posada Don Luis, a little north of
downtown Rosarito, but my wife wants to stay at Calafia where everyone else is staying. i guess we can all be miserable together or drink enough not
to notice!!!rayfornario - 9-7-2007 at 02:00 PM
The name of it is Hotel Calafia ad it is just outside Rosarito.sylens - 9-7-2007 at 03:12 PM

It is still A-hole even with the A missing.
It is clearly south of Son Diega and Rosarita.

Rayfornario,
You summed it up. Go for the wedding. Celebrate the time with those you love. Get really drunk and fall into bed! The location is great and with
enough "celebration" in you it'll all be good..... It's about the people and nothing else. Enjoy.
And really, the location is amazing!!!bancoduo - 9-7-2007 at 05:25 PM

Kind of a scandalous statement to make
against a Mexician business. Can you elaborate on your critique sylens - 9-7-2007 at 05:31 PM

MEXICIAN? Oh, brother!!!!!!!!!!!
Not scandalous, accurate.
Stop with the patronizing posts. They don't work.
Give up the attacks on me, Duo.
Okay, I can't resist

I held off as long as I could. I thought I had it made and that the rage would leave me.
It did not and for that I am ashamed!
A poor newby comes on the scene and asks a simple, but silly question.
Because of boredom and nothing else the spelling coppers lash out and trash the poor guy!
Come on folks boring is boring and that can not be ignored ....the only question is who makes this site of fun and knowledge....boring?Packoderm - 9-7-2007 at 08:41 PM
If the place is that dirty, and the food is that awful, maybe they can hire a maid or two to go over the rooms and hire a caterer for the food. Maybe
that would give the management at Calafia a hint?fdt - 9-7-2007 at 10:17 PM

KNowing how Conrado Acevedo, the owner handles things, he would charge triple for that.jeans - 9-8-2007 at 12:54 AM
I went there with my parents for a Mother's Day Brunch and it was the most pathetic offering I have ever seen, anywhere. For $20! That was
the only time I had ever eaten there...and the last time.
Visits in the past have just been for drinks on the cliff-hugging patio which is a great location. I would go back for that.Pstreet1 - 9-8-2007 at 09:42 AM
It certainly wouldn't be my choice. Look out for the bus loads that stop on weekends. You could rent a condo in the Calafia towers that are right
next door to the hotel--but a world away in terms of amenities.
One word of caution about getting there. The road is being widened to 4 lanes, and they are re-striping here and there to indicate where you are
supposed to drive. However, the area getting into Calafia is like something out of a nightmare. Until you are almost beside Calafia towers, the road
is 4 lanes wide. There is one small sign that indicates two way traffic will begin. They have converted a strip of road about a football field in
length to two lane so cars coming out of Calafia can get to the other side of the (what appears to be 4 lane) road and go northbound. If you miss the
small sign (because you are beside a big truck maybe), you'll be rather surprised to see a car coming right at you. There have been 3 head-on
collisions there. Yesterday when we drove past, they seemed to be attempting to put some cones out to cause the south bound traffic to get to the
right.
By next weekend, all may be well--but it's also possible that by next weekend there will be no cones and no sign and the traffic will just come at
you.
Anyway, be aware and be careful.
the ONLY thing i'd go back for......

The views are great, the beer is cold, the mixed drinks are made better with tipping to bartender and did I mention the beer was cold. A party is a
party and let the good times roll, I have slept on floors after parties in the past (not my preferred choice). Just B.S.ing with friends and watching
others get into trouble with family members or friends is just too much fun at parties, besides it is always good entertainment. It's always better
to have someone else getting scolded instead of you due to popping too many (is there really such a thing of too many at a party?). You will enjoy
yourself and all of the other issues will be overlooked or forgotten. Later----- bajafun777rayfornario - 9-10-2007 at 11:07 AM
I think we will all have a blast at Calafia no matter what!!! Tried to call and at least change our room to oceanfront but I could not get
through...the line would ring busy. I actually checked 6 other numbers in Rosarito and the same thing happened! I wonder if there is something wrong
with the phone lines down south. I have called before and never had a problem getting through.rayfornario - 9-12-2007 at 02:05 PM
We have decided to stay at Calafia. it seems like everyone else is taking a chance so we will too! I tried to get an ocean view room but the only
things available are the garden room.
I will post a trip review when we return!
