I go to Baja every year on a dirt bike to Mulege and back with a group of friends. We used to go to Asadero(sp) Ramon in Mulege for carnitas,
unfortunately he passed away and the location was taken over by Donny who only serves carnitas there on Saturdays, we tend to be in Mulege on Tuesday
and Wednesday. We went to the pig roast at the Serinidad one year on a Saturday and it was light on pig for the price. We do a loop down the Sea of
Cortez side and back up the West coast side. Any recommendations would be appriciated. Thanks for your help.

Oh, man. You have opened a can of worms.bajasammy - 10-26-2007 at 05:45 PM
Everybody seems to agree that Dos Hermanos is a great place for Carnitas! It's just south of Ensenada on the right side before the Estero Beach
turnoff.Minnow - 10-26-2007 at 05:49 PM
Yeah, the new road widening really messed with Dos Hermanos. Still great though. Unfortuantely, Bent-rim is looking for a place in Mulege.bent-rim - 10-26-2007 at 06:01 PM
The major burgs we hit are Valley T, Mikes, San Felipe, BOLA, San Ignacio, Mulege, Guerrero Negro, Catavina, El Rosario and San Vicente.

Its called Barajas and they do have the best carnitas. Its closed on Tuesdays.comitan - 10-27-2007 at 05:03 AM
Barajas is the place to go for Carnitas in Chametla which is just before La Paz on the right side of Hwy. this is the original Barajas, also going out
of La Paz on Hwy 1 to the south on the right hand side where its 4 lane. And of course Todos Santos.805gregg - 10-27-2007 at 07:19 AM
There is always Las Flors de Michoacan in Rosarito Beach and a guy in San Quintin on the west side of the road that cooks right out in the dirt in a
large copper pot, stires with an oar.
Great Carnitas
bajaguy - 10-27-2007 at 08:20 AM
Las Flor de Michoacan is excellent, highly recommended. Been going there for years.Sunman - 10-27-2007 at 08:57 AM

Ed, u2u me and I will give you a great carnitas spot here in Loreto. He is only open on Sundays and the supply is limited, or I would post it here.bent-rim - 10-29-2007 at 09:31 AM
805gregg, Can you give me an idea where this guy is located? We're usually headed north when we go through San Quitin. ThanksBob H - 10-29-2007 at 11:50 AM
In Guerrero Negro - going in to town, just before the Pemex on the right hand side is a carnitas place, Michoacan style, that is absolutely
outstanding! We stop by there every chance we get.

We do too. Looks greasy and grimy but we like their carnitas.
Our resident expert on carnitas seems to be Hook. I'm sure he'll be able to give you the lowdown on primo carnitas after he works his way to this
thread.Lindalou - 10-29-2007 at 01:23 PM
Someone please tell me exactly what is a carnita. I'm not sure if Ive had one.
Bent-Rim, we had thanksgiving dinner a couple of years ago at Serinidad and none of our group got enough to eat and there was no more. They overbooked
and the price was high. Have not been back.bajajudy - 10-29-2007 at 01:39 PM
Carnitas is deep fried pork...or at least pork
The best here in Los Cabos and I believe that there is one in La Paz, is Michoacan. Two in San Jose and two in San Lucas. Hand made tortillas, great
salsas, yummy chicarones and killer frijoles charro.Hook - 10-30-2007 at 11:41 AM

This place was just too greasy for my tastes. The chicken rocks, however. Salsa bar, too.
I like Flor de Michoacan's stuff too.

He is not too hard to find as there is always a crowd at his stand, if I remember right his is not too far so. from the Pemex that is on the east side
of the road. He is on the west side. I have eaten there many times, it's one of the good old places where you eat some tacos, order some more eat and
repeat, then pay at the end.bent-rim - 11-1-2007 at 09:18 AM
805gregg and Bob H thanks for the info on places to get carnitas. We'll try both places since they fit into our route and I'll give a review next
spring after the trip. Thanks again, Bent-rimcoconaco - 11-2-2007 at 08:13 AM

This place is very good...................solo tacos and kilos......
COMITAN- Remember the mural of the pigs playing poker.
Unfortunately - The restaraunt expansion took them out!
Further east on the way to La Paz past the airport and the dove at the first major intersection near the car dealerships is a "Carnitas al vapor"stand
only open for lunch. This place is very popular. I do not know the name but there is a big sign- "quiere dos tortillas solicita"
God bless baja.

Is this the large brick building that is right where the toll road and free road begin moving in separate directions just north of Rosarito? If so, I
remember some of my hard core bicycle friends always raving about that place when they would go down for the Rosarito-Ensenada race. They knew
carnitas. One of them owned a mexican restaurant in the US.
