Puros Coruptos: el sangre de La Paz

vandenberg - 1-23-2008 at 01:06 PM

See :(:(
and you guys thought Tijuana was bad.

Hook - 1-23-2008 at 01:06 PM

Jeez, this makes El Chino sound like a saint.

But is it true? What is M.P. ?

I would think that guys like Jesse and Aldo would have come in contact with this system, if true.

vandenberg - 1-23-2008 at 01:21 PM

And Gnukid,
Maybe there is a La Paz public relations job somewhere in your future
:?::?:
or, if it's that bad,
a one way trip to the Cortez trench, provided by your "alleged" crooked officials :(:biggrin:

comitan - 1-23-2008 at 01:30 PM

Gnukid

I don't know where you find this crap, I have no idea why you still live here, you say nothing good about La Paz. This guy who wrote this knows nothing about La Paz, just look at all the new commercial and homes being constructed. If I was a wordy person like you I would go on and but I won't. Something tells me you might be trying to sell your home but are unhappy with the Realtors here in La Paz, we have found some that will work with and really try to sell your house and only charge you 6% commision.

Every time Im in La Paz I get pulled over by the police FOR NOTHING!

bajaguy - 1-23-2008 at 01:58 PM

Must be your looks, Lips....that's called profiling!!!

vandenberg - 1-23-2008 at 02:14 PM

Have been going to La Paz 3 to 5 times a year for the last 15 years and have only been stopped once for a registration check. Truck was in Non-Op and luckely the cop couldn't read English and went only by the dates and found everything in order.:P

What have you been driving?

stanburn - 1-23-2008 at 02:47 PM

It kind of reminds me of my oldest son when he was in Junior High and High School. All of these things kept happening to him an only him yet he declared that he never did anything wrong. Lots of drama and it turns out, as I suspected, it was his fault.

I spent 4 months living in LaPaz in 2005/6 and walked all around town at all hours of the day, drove friends vehicles without ever being pulled over, etc, etc, etc and never saw a single example of any sorts of the problems that Gnukid describes.

Is there a moral to this story? maybe.

La Paz, Brazil???

longlegsinlapaz - 1-23-2008 at 04:07 PM

It certainly doesn't resemble the La Paz where I live! And I'm RARELY referred to as Pollyanna! GNUKID, you gotta find a new neighborhood & new people to hang out with!

Hook, MP???? I looked back through but my eyes are weary....if there's just a plain old MP in there it didn't jump out at me! I was going to say possibly Ministerio Publico, but all I could find was "Me pushi?" Is that what you were asking about?

DENNIS - 1-23-2008 at 04:11 PM

Jeezo...What happened? Just a little bit of rejection and POOF....It's gone.

must be some relative of the Grimm Brothers.....

Comitan: you evtl. right. Search the Craiglist - you see a listing that matches quiet well - incl. hotlinking to other people websites and stealing their bandwith.

lizard lips: Must be the lips.... jejejeje. the 8th. year in L.P. vehicles with all 3 plates (frontera, national and US), 1 time pulled over, no vehicle documents on me, no driver licence, no ID, basically speak no spanish - he told me where I live and to have that in future on me and that was it.

Looking at GnuGuys post's - they have a good entertaining value at times (if you have the time to read it all) but seem to be often blown out of proportion.

longlegsinlapaz: good suggestion for gnuguy!!

Take it easy man..... (Gnuguy that is)

"Somebody" removed it - I'll have a copy and try to locate that guy that supposedly wrote that. Not much luck in the search for that writer name etc. so far even if spell correct. maybe Gnuguy can fill us in here on the source.....

That you have not one drop of compassion for those in trouble for nothing other than their silly idea of going out to spend money here in La Paz every night makes me in no way trustworthy of you. To be so complacent of the issue of curruption and extortion of tourists and extranos, which is way obvious, makes it clear you are not someone who either knows what its like or has any experience helping people who visit la Paz.

The article didn't even mention transit extortion like most everyone has experienced where officers withhold licences and threaten to tow and take people to jail daily--they do.

I want to feel sorry for Comitan I imagine you are an old person who has a nice property and doesn't get out much... that might be nice for you but not everyone falls into your shoes... the majority are short term visitors with little experience.

You are a really part of the problem with no support to address the solution so take your blinded views back to your ranchito and let those with some concern for others gather resources and support and possible some checks and balances for La Paz Corruptos.

That's all cool gnuguy but PLEASE: since you posted the write-up: share with us the source so we can elevate to the same level as you ( or descent) and may join you in your fight for a better La Paz....

B.t.w.: thanks for enlighten me. I must real have no idea since I passed almost every neighborhood in this town by day and night... nothing happened. Must been my lucky days...

comitan - 1-23-2008 at 05:46 PM

Well Gnukid I'm old enough to know better than to bang my head against a brick
wall, you are going to have your say and I cannot change that, I'm sure glad I don't associate with the people you do. And as far as the lost article that was just sensationalism journalism just written to get published and maybe get paid, happens every day.

You think my head is buried in the sand, well to start with I have spent time in the La Paz jail and Prison and was treated very well, so I can speak first hand. All this garbage you are spewing must just be one more chapter in your Novel as for me its no longer funny, if you are going to post this garbage substantiate it, your saying it means nothing.

"People are packing in droves to leave." Apologies that I am late on this one. I don't doubt that crime and corruption exist in La Paz.

Gnukid, you are free to post like all of us. But, for this level and amount of crime, isn't it fair for us to expect some journalistic accountability?

comitan - 1-24-2008 at 08:38 AM

If we just knew the whole story I might have some sympathy!!!!!!!!!!!!!:?::?::?:

CaboRon - 1-24-2008 at 09:16 AM

Gnukid,

I can see why your writing has gotten people in a snit.

My first two days in La Paz I was pulled over on five occasions. I think they had a meeting after that and realized that since I had less than a nickle to my name and drove an old Bronco that wasn't worth stealing, they dicided not to hassle me anymore  Never was stopped again.

I moved from La Paz because I had a psyco landlady and couldn't stand the noise (horns honking all night and a rental club across the street in a residential neighborhood that went with the subwoofers until 4am) ..... I basically got not one good nights sleep in three months.

Now I am in peaceful Todos Santos with a professional managing the rental I am in and am very happy.

I too like Tres Virgines and love the french bread that Les bakes there.

Looking for second source

capitolkat - 1-24-2008 at 09:22 AM

In responsible journalism a reporter always has a confirming reliable source. Through the years I've come to know quite a few folks in the Los Cabos and La Paz region. I'm about to build my second house in BAja Sur- in el Centenario. I talked on-line to quite a few folks in La paz over the last few years and met a few of them in person, and have also traveled through La Paz , morning, noon and night.

Now I have three episodes described by Gnukid - the CCC strong arm, the local robber/drug dealer, and now whole- sale extortion by local cops- but none of them have that valuable independent verification that responsible journalists require. No other harmed person has come forward and none of the locals I personally know have a clue about what Gnukid is talking about. I read El Sud Californiano on-line every day and they love a juicy story- but nothing on what Gnukid reports.

Before gnukid gets in an uproar- I don't say any of this didn't occur- but I go by the axiom-"verify before you repeat" so I can't repeat any of these tales as I can't verify a single one of them. Anybody else have any personal information which supports Gnukid's version of the facts?? And I have to wonder on a personal basis- how is one person involved in all these episodes and nobody else on this board knows about them??

CaboRon - 1-24-2008 at 09:27 AM

Responsible journalism... isn't that an oxymarooon ?

They just say "a confidential source" or "an unnamed white house spokesman" or some other such thing...

Isn't it all just hearsay ?

hey newkid,
sounds like a plausible story. reminds me of my first trip to a strip bar in san fran, where the "hostess" was a 250-lb guy in drag, who brought us our drinks, then a bill for drinks that had drinks at $35 per drink (which was a bit steep for 1980s prices). we paid and got out rather than get a beating for disputing bill.
when locals prey on tourists and expats, the tourists/expats need to strike back by contacting feds, raising a stink, and contacting anybody they know who may have influence over local crooked cops and pols.
ultimately, the crooked cops only prey on people that look powerless or look like they have no connections -- in cases like this, how you present yourself determines your allure to predators.

gnukid - 1-24-2008 at 09:48 AM

The truth is, I believe, most of you and the other victims are too scared to say anything, you don't speak spanish have no idea what is happening and are embarrassed and intimidated and frustrated to say the least.

To be honest with you, I am peeed at those victims who ask for my help and who fail to follow my lead and instructions to file reports including evidence with the police. But who would go back the next day to the same office where you were robbed? You got to do it. You got to file a report with the Policia Minesterial the same day or the next day or some day soon. You gotta be persistent.

You can see some of us have entered the fray repeatedly as friends where no one else would, I made sure not to make it worse and gathered facts to let the perps implicate themselves for prosecution and I have succeeded which we should be proud of but few of you have the courage to stand up to crime really. That makes me really angry.

Not one of you here has said, call me I know an interpreter for these victims or do they need help?

Its a combination of all these factors that allows crime to run rampant.

shari - 1-24-2008 at 10:08 AM

hmmm just tuned into this thread today and although I hate to say it but I believe it...not just in La Paz...like gnukid says...many wouldn't want to discuss it on a forum but I too have helped travellers out in similar circumstances and was personally involved in obscene cases of extortion and corruption which I will not get into(not in Asuncion by the way)...this story is not beyond belief folks...sorry to say...but it is worth keeping a heads up and one of the morals of the story is to pay cash for each drink...it can happen to YOU!

gnukid - 1-24-2008 at 10:14 AM

Shari and thank you for gleaning one important morsel, always pay for each order at the time of the order and ask for and keep the receipt. It would end many of these scams before they start.

comitan - 1-24-2008 at 10:17 AM

One of the victims a Major Developer? Leads one to believe that maybe the Ugly Gringo reared its head, and he didn't have bail money? I'm sure this happened but I also think that theres more to the story.

In the I suspect rather remote event there's something to this nonsense, it would help to know which bars/restaurants/motels/whatever are practicing extortion in league with the police.

For my own part, I have lived in La Paz for over 20 years in neighborhoods both modest and swell, and have never had a spot of serious trouble with the police or anyone else.

This Gnukid is cr....
He likes to ruin the reputation of La Paz all the time.
He is the same one that posts 'kidnapping at Sorianas parking lot' and being robed while in line by the check out.
etc.
all BS
I have been a hundred times trough La Paz and shop at Sorianas and only have been used for 20 dollars once by a police on motor bike a few weeks before Christmas in 2005. Never any problems ever since.
