Washingtonians! State That is.

rogerj1 - 2-26-2008 at 12:53 AM

How many Washingtonians do we have on the Nomad board:?:

It takes a special breed of Nomad to make those 3k mile road trips.

Lived in Bremerton, Point No Point, Tahuya & Manchester and worked as a Park Ranger fo Kitsap County. But after a couple of round trips I was fortunate enough to be able to move down here. I do miss the trees and fishing & hunting but not the clouds & cold.

do you mean Washington State?

capitolkat - 2-26-2008 at 06:49 AM

for those of us from Washington-D.C. who call ourselves Washingtonians and have a local magazine of the same name, and were Washingtonians when Washington state was still part of the Spanish empire--(pet peeve)

Acuity - 2-26-2008 at 07:03 AM

We have lots growing in our garden. Palms, that is

Russ - 2-26-2008 at 07:55 AM

capitolkat, Nice to have a pet peeve. I suppose the population of DC would rival that of the whole State of Washington and it certainly has a lot more influence on what happens in the world. I always thought the confusion between the two irritating also. So, since you're there with the movers and shakers maybe you could start a campaign to change the State's name.

Russ-- Ah no -- don't want to change the name of all those brave souls who live the good life in Washington State- just to get them to recognize that they need to be more specific when they identify themselves, or show the umbrella they always carry so we can distinguish them from the original Washingtonians--no power broker here- 12 or months or so to retirement in La Paz--

To avoid any confusion I always say I'm from Washington STATE! ( Olympic Peninsula ) Washingtonian is a bit much...how about "Rust Backs"?

Sharksbaja - 2-26-2008 at 12:23 PM

Why does DC get to have delegates when they are NOT a state???? Fishy! What about Guam and Puerto Rico?:lol:
btw Kat PNW folks DO NOT use sissy umbrellas. They rot out too fast from the rain.

Hey, I live in Tahuya (when I'm not in Baja) and own a business in Bremerton. I love the 3,000 mi road trip!

rogerj1 - 2-27-2008 at 10:34 PM

Hey! Don't hijack my thread:mad:

Iflyfish - 2-27-2008 at 10:38 PM

Does Beaverton, Oregon count?

DC has a delegate- non-voting and essentially an office and face with no power. States have representatives and Senators- DC has neither-- not my issue as I'm a fish out of water in DC concerning political affiliation and any elected official doesn't represent me in any case.

Here's a video my friend Jim made. http://video.yahoo.com/watch/2124433/6704090

turtleandtoad - 2-29-2008 at 11:41 AM

In WA, carrying an umbrella is a dead giveaway that you're a tourist!

Did you know that Seattle sells more sunglasses than any other city? Guess that's because by the time the sun comes out, we've forgotten where we put the last pair.

I know there's at least two of us on this forum from a little town called Lyle Washington; A small spot in the Gorge with maybe a 1000 people.

roamin - 2-29-2008 at 01:34 PM

Maple Valley Washington here...And I am always clear when I say Washington State.

Debra - 2-29-2008 at 01:42 PM

You already know this Roger........but, others may not.

I'm in Port Orchard. I know there are alot more of us here. A few years ago I had a Washington/Baja get together at Seabeck St. Park. 20 or so came for the visit. We should do that again, anybody game?

Russ - 2-29-2008 at 02:45 PM

Debra, Sounds like fun. And I'd like to see my old haunts. But it sure is a long trip. How about some time in August? Does Seabeck St. Park still have a small area where they allow drinking?

bajalera - 2-29-2008 at 09:05 PM

Steve and I have been making that long run from Whidbey Island to La Paz so often it doesn't seem like a drag any more. .

mulegemichael - 3-1-2008 at 06:07 PM

exactly 2,000 miles from our home here in sequim to our place in mulege...we have a lavender farm that's open to the public so it's REALLY nice when october comes and we can head back south...and..russ...i was a wa. st. park ranger for 20 years before starting my farm...so i sympathize...

That sounds like a possibility! We'll be in Olympic National Park, Sol Duc, from mid May until the last of Oct.

If we can work out the timing, we would join the party.
I think it's about 4 hours drive from us to you.
We're in the "Gorge", an hour east of Portland.
.

turtleandtoad - 3-1-2008 at 08:58 PM

Aha,
The other member from Lyle makes his appearance.

Hi Diver,
I can't make any promises, but if you're gong to be home (in Lyle) around the beginning of May, I was thinking about stopping in. Maybe we'll have better luck than last time.

Diver - 3-1-2008 at 09:59 PM

We'll be here and look forward to meeting you and Robin.
If it works out, you might enjoy seeing some folks at the first Saturday of the month Lions club pancake breakfast.
We have one partial and one full RV hook-up if you need a place to park.

.

bajalera - 3-1-2008 at 11:36 PM

Being a Washingtonian is knowing how to say Sequim--and that there are places called Dosewallips and Humptulips [spellings not guaranteed).

Edited by Bajalera to indicate that she does know how to spell Washingtonian.

Debra
If we are anywhere close at time,we'll be there. We really enjoyed it the last time, and still are in contact with some neat folks we met there.Still have our 15 ft yacht and would float over from Whidbey again if the weather is as good as last time.

bajalera - 3-7-2008 at 10:27 PM

I hated it when Swinomish Slough [SWIN-oh-mish SLOO), which separates Whidbey Island from the mainland, got changed to Swinomish Channel. The old name had such a nice swish to it.

Oops! That should be Fidalgo, not Whidbey. [Been away too long.]

What's it Tahuya!

rogerj1 - 3-8-2008 at 01:39 AM

Debra, I think another get together is a great idea. I missed the last one .

Debra - 3-8-2008 at 01:29 PM

Sounds like some interest here.........

I heading down to Bahia in a couple of weeks, should be home in a couple of months (I really do plan)

I'll do somethinking on it and try to figure out a date/dates to throw out for concideration as it gets closer. I'm thinking Aug. would be good (like last time........

Check in here in a couple of months for info.

I'll head the thread WA/Baja get together

Sorry Roger, hope this isn't too much of a hi-jack ;)
