surfer jim - 4-25-2008 at 07:25 AM

LA station did a report on BAJA crime last night....covered an older story ( 4 months ago) about surfer couple who were attacked and shot at in their motorhome somewhere south of Ensenada.....got lost going to the beach at night...pulled over to wait for morning...knock on door .....gunshot through the wall...2 guys enter and rob....I wonder if this was the people robbed near QUATRO CASAS.....

Anybody else see this....?

David K - 4-25-2008 at 08:04 AM

Too bad they have to keep repeating the 4 month old story... meanwhile, murders every day in the states... Poor Baja... she takes a beating by the press, over and over.

surfer jim - 4-25-2008 at 08:09 AM

I was hopeing for some current info myself.....wonder if it was a slow news day and this was just some "filler" news......

Von - 4-25-2008 at 08:10 AM

Thats right David for every 2 or 3 bad events that happen in Baja 200 to 300 horrible events happen here in the states oh well no sense in worrying...

Bob H - 4-25-2008 at 08:42 AM

I am currently visiting family in Chicago... on the news last night... 20-something murders in the last two weeks! Unreal. When you hear this kind of news you must think that Baja is still pretty darn safe, huh?

The population of Chicagoland is 9.7 million, about 3 times the population of all of Baja. You don't think there were at least 20-something murders in Baja in the last two weeks? The murder rate in Mexico is 3 times the rate in the US. You can Google that up, if you like.

If you like Baja, that's OK. But don't pretend it is safer that the US. It is not.

I see that you decided to join a board about Baja just to make a statement like the one above.

Judy, the real question is -- is it true?

fishbuck - 4-25-2008 at 11:15 AM

Keep running that story. Traffic was very light a couple weekends ago.
Bussiness is down.
That's the way I like Baja.

fdt - 4-25-2008 at 11:15 AM

I just want to know if this newbie "fulano" is from the fulano de tal family and if he's in any way related to the zutanos or perenganos. ;)

No hace *******. Is this the "Let's-slap-each-other-on-the-back-and-ignore-reality" baja message board? If you guys want to wax poetic about Baja, that's fine with me. But pretending that all the asesinatos, mordidas, s and tonterias that happen all the time in Baja doesn't exist is a disservice to the novatos.

Calderon didn't send 3,000 troops to Baja to hang piñatas.
:(

SCREAMING BACK ON TOPIC......

the chilitos responsible were caught (according to the tortilla telegraph) and are currently lamenting their very existence. just a couple of idiots with too much time and tequila....not to mention a weapon looking for some entertainment in between bus rides to the fields....

this, based on local knowledge (not mine), and yet the entire peninsula remains a "no man's (and woman's) zone".....

Mo' Betta, Brah!

be prepared to be confronted frequently if disagreeing with certain of the masses. JR was an icon long gone now. look up his history and you'll see what you're up against.:O;D

Thanks. I am not the Fulano on Baja.com. I'm Fulano Perengano. My primo is Fulano Zutano. I used to have a cuñado named Fulano Desconocido, but I think he got lost trying to sneak into Baja from Otay Mesa. He never was too bright.

Aha!!! I knew it! I've been on to you since post one, you didn't fool me fulano.
Oh and in case you didn't know it, I've known your family since I was a kid; fulanito, zutanito, perenganito and theire cousin menganito, I know very well how you people operate and I must tell you that nomads won't be taken by just any fulano out there.

In One event:

["Fourteen Mexican drug gang members were killed and eight others were injured in a gun battle near the U.S. border on Saturday"]

TJ is catching Chicago.

David K - 4-26-2008 at 10:41 AM

I don't go to Chicago to have fun... (too far and too windy, right?)

I would really like to see more military and a clean sweep in order to return the 'Amigo Country' back to all law abiding people!!

Extreme measures are needed to get things back to normal... or the tourists will find other places to go... It will take time even after law and order is returned... Unfortunate for all in the tourist business and many other businesses as well!

The really high crime rate areas in Mexico include Mexico City, Tijuana, Ciudad Juárez, Nuevo Laredo, Michoacan, and the state of Sinaloa.

Here's more detail ...

US crime statistics are found here..

Interesting stuff.
