solid surface countertops in ensenada

We recently remodeled our kitchen. Ana wanted gloss black cabinets and counters. We were able to talk some sense into her but still ended up with pretty much all black. Couldn't find anything here in La Paz in a solid counter top that fit the bill. We ended up going with floor tiles after seeing the same done at a friend's house in AZ.

1. Lots of choices when shopping for tiling.
   
2. Easy to find good installers in MX.
   
3. Floor tile is very heavy duty and easy to care for.
   
4. Cheaper than granite or Corian.
   

Finding trim is a bit of an issue but you can get creative. We went with some brushed nickel metal tiles. So far, we are very happy with everything.

its sideways...
they LOVE to install electrical outlets this way here

as a builder who is fond of design noir i must say what you have done there is very classy.

while solid surfaces continue in popularity but at premium cost - i more favor large module machined tile which is cheaper to do whether in old mexico or the States, plus you have more options to creativity with trims as you've shown in yours. very classy - thx for showing!

Ya know Steve, I could blow your cover & spill the beans on the fact that you're this huge & tall hulk of a guy while Ana is in reality a sweet & always smiling little itty bitty thing, but I'd hate to disillusion those who haven't yet met you....of the picture you're painting of Ana being this big old warhorse meanie with a frequently used whip & you just an abused & downtrodden poor little urchin battered, bruised & crying in whatever corner you are allowed!

Would you have preferred I used "hulking"? I was trying to be kind by saying a huge hulk of a man....NOT to be confused with hunk!

what is the edging you are using on the countertop? looks like stainless steel--right on the drop underneath the countertop tiles before you get to the stainless tiles?

but i like the rustic look, so it will be quite different.

Santiago..You have described my kitchen's condition during our fishing trip to a T. Now my burning question is...which cleanser would you use?




edit: p.s. Does anyone know a good way to get burned sugar off a stovetop and maybe a place where I can hide for awhile?

Since my wife hates grout lines of any dimension, we opted for granite countertops. A friend of ours who is a builder had found two brothers from Ensenada who do excellent granite work and they came down to Santa Rosalia to install. They were less than half of what they would have cost in the US and these guys do excellent work. If you have any interest in going in this direction let me know and I will get their phone number for you.

All of the above. New doors and drawer fronts, one new base cabinet and other refinished.
