Radio Program on Baja California to tell it as it really is
The barrage of sensationalized and often rehashed bad news media reports and most days anti-Mexico onslaught voiced by far right radio and TV talk
shows has provided a distorted view of the real Baja California. “The Baja Connection with Patrick Osio,” a one hour radio program, will change that.
“The Baja Connection with Patrick Osio,” premiers on KOOL 1040 AM radio on July 7, 2008. Renowned local columnist Patrick Osio brings a different
perspective on Baja and how issues and events impact the binational communities. The 1-hour daily talk show will air Monday through Friday, from 6:00
to 7:00 PM with expert guests and listener interaction, discussing the economic interdependence of the San Diego-Baja California border region
informing and exposing listeners to the vast opportunities while avoiding the pitfalls.
Patrick writes the award winning column, The Connection, for the San Diego Metropolitan Magazine, the premier business magazine covering the San
Diego-Baja California region. Patrick is also the Editor of HispanicVista.com, an Internet public interest publication, which has won him recognition
as one of the 50 most influential Hispanic journalists in the US.
The Monday through Friday, 6-7 PM radio program, will be devoted to discussions with recognized leaders in various sectors:
Monday - Border infrastructure, transportation, manu-facturing, trade and commerce, binational environment, and education
Tuesday - Baja Real Estate: Opportunities & Pitfalls - discussion on property buying, trust agreements, title insurance, mortgage financing, real
estate developments, time share and fractioning.
Wednesday - Medical services: - how to check out doctors, dental, eye care, surgical services, vanity surgery, comparative costs, quality of
treatments, US insurance coverage, assisted living and Alzheimer care.
Thursday - Tourism: Safety & Security, border crossing and border security, US passport requirements, what to do, what to see, where to go, where
to eat, bargain hunting, and tours.
Friday - Retirement in Baja: Who should, who shouldn’t, how to, best developments, costs, activities, services, and small business ownership
opportunities for Americans, and Mexican government requirements.
The debut Monday, July 7 program will tackle the border infrastructure: The long North bound border crossing times found by the San Diego Association
of Governments study to cost the region in excess of $8-billion annually in lost commerce and idle time. In response, the expansion of the San Ysidro
Port of Entry. The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Economic study indicating that adding East Otay Mesa Port of Entry would increment the
regional economy by over $31-billion during its first 10 years. And, building a air-terminal annex on Otay Mesa with a bridge connecting to the
Tijuana airport would help alleviate border waiting time, reduce border pollution and provide additional air service to San Diego.
“The Baja Connection with Patrick Osio” is being produced by long time media and radio personality, Hector Molina, as part of Trans-Border
Communications media production initiatives. The program will also be broadcasted live on the Internet and archived on various web sites for listening

Me too David, but believe it or not I had an almost two year run with Baja Talk Radio. Now that was a fun time with great guests and great
listeners.... It's too bad it ended, but let's hope this new show does well along with Fernando's show.

Great, I think there is room for many shows about Baja California. I also think that shows that don't have a hidden agenda will do better always as
did Ted's show, always with the intention to provide useful information for residents and travelers. Ted was a real inspiration with his show and I
know how hard it is to get advertisers or sponsors, specialy from a country like mine whose general population has not yet embraced this whole
internet thing and all of it's posibilities, like internet radio or TV. I know how expensive world talk radio is and without the $ in advertising
comming in it would be a very economicaly draining hobbie. I am really trying to make this work and Ted will probably agree that just to convince
people to be guests on the show is hard. At this point we have everything set up in our living room and yes, we have some technical issues but I hope
were getting better. What I am proud of is that there is no hidden agenda here and hopefuly soon we will have a studio. Last month I started on my
dream and I have now 2 finished TV shows and i'm editing the third, hopefuly that starts bringing in some revenue and I can start making shows on the
rest of the peninsula.
But getting back to the radio, althow I have not had a show for the past month because of learning the TV stuff, now that I have it worked out I'm
restarting the show. One thing I did learn from an old jurnalist is that "Your truth in reporting or freedom of speech ends at your advertisers front
door" . This said, I wish Mr. Osio luck on his new show but I see that he uses the same tactics as many old school mexican politicians and that makes
me doubt:

straight on what is actually happening in Baja, by reporting the truth about the peninsula.
Really, reporting the truth has a price and there are to many examples to mention

Maybe ask World Talk Radio why? Mexico Ted is a Nomad, if you put his name into the search engine here you may read his original explanation.
The biggest bummer was all the shows that were online to hear anytime, were all destroyed/ erased... A lot of good stuff was lost... and I don't mean
the two times I was on it!
I've read and listen to this guy promote Baja for years.
He is an attorney with vested interested in Baja. This is documented and frankly just Google this guy for his friends/connections and personal

Fernando's right, it's a lot of work to put on a radio show, let alone on the internet. You either go through a "station" like I did at World Talk
Radio and have to pay them for your show or do it from your home as Fernando does. Then you have to find advertisers, who have no idea that there is
anything like internet radio where someone in San Diego can listen at the same time as some one in Cabo San Lucas. Lot's of respect for you
Fernando....
Concerning Patrick's show, I am glad I will be able to listen and I too hope it will be balanced. I know Patrick is in the business in Baja, but he's
a good guy so I think he can be impartial. I thinks it's a little easier for Fernando and I as we did it for the love of Baja (I'm sure Patrick loves
Baja too) and not because of business interests.
CaboRon, I wish I was still doing the Baja Talk Radio show, but once WTR was taken over and purchased, they raised the prices and I had lost my
sponsors during the 3-5 months they were in transition. They recently asked me back and said they might be able to get a sponsor..... we'll see.
DK, I am still upset they "lost" my past archived shows as some where classic interviews and other guests can not be interviewed again such as Mike
Humfreville (RIP). Every once in awhile I receive an inquiry from a potential sponsor to do the show again, but it doesn't seem to work out.... Too
bad because at one time we ere the 4th rated internet radio program on the US west coast.
