looking to keep a toyota truck permanently in the baja so
the wife and I can fly down and use it...not really interested
in bringing it home and keeping it reg'd back here in the usa...
not looking to pay usa insurance BUT do want to legally keep
this vehicle permanently in mexico for my own personal use...
I will want to keep current and proper Mexican INSURANCE on this
vehicle - mostly in case I hit someone else....to stay out of the
slammer and cover expenses for the other party...(God willing that
day never comes...)
Whats the best and most prudent route to go for the long term
legal usage of a vehicle in baja...?
I'm hoping for people with experience to give me bullet points on
the best course of action to legally keep a car in baja for personal
use only...especially registration and insurance info.
many thanks-

Get yourself an FM3...then you can leave stuff behind in Mexico...

Try this .... if the vehicle is not going to live in the states.... I have South Dakota plates and tags and was happy to get out from under CA DMV
.....
Your best bet is to buy the pickup down here that is imported and licensed.bajabound2005 - 7-20-2008 at 07:08 AM
You can also look at the different types of insurance available. If you are not looking to cover the vehicle itself, but for liability, you can get
driver's license insurance. It's less expensive and covers you for any non-Mexico plated car you are driving. It does not cover the vehicle, but
covers your liability. Perhaps Geoff can ring in on this one.CaboRon - 7-20-2008 at 09:22 AM

Then all you have to do is get a Mexican drivers liscense, which I understand is fairly easy .... correct me if I am wrong.
My question .... do you need a different type of insurance if you are driving a Mexican plated vehicle ?
