Dealing with Photobucket

To help new members, David brought back the photo thread where he gives a very good explanation of how he uploads pictures directly to the forum.

But then the thread gets very long --- so I thought I might break down this process in a new thread. It is for people who want to use Photobucket, which to me is easier.

1. Sometimes I downsize my photos with photoshop, but it is much faster using the Microsoft Power Tool. If you have Windows XP, you can quickly download the Image Resizer here

2. To resize the picture, right click, open Resize Picture and a box appears with several choices----Small, Medium, Large, Handheld and then there is a button for Advanced.

3. I use the Advanced. It opens up another choice--Custom. Now if you have a regular landscape oriented photo, just put 600 in the first box and when you push OK, the second number is automatically calculated for you. If it is a portrait oriented photo, fill in the second number with 600 and the first one will fill in. You don't need to make it that big, but any bigger does cause problems for viewers. You will now have a copy of your photo on your computer that is resized.

4. One time saving thing I do if I am going to upload several pictures is this. I copy all the pictures I want to upload and put them in a separte folder in windows. Then I resize several at one time---just select them, right click and resize several at one time. Also, in the advanced mode of the resizer, there is a box for resize the original and I use that.
NEVER RESIZE THE ORIGINAL, ONLY USE THIS IF YOU ARE WORKING WITH A COPY.

5. Now on photobucket, you can upload one picture at a time, or if you have made a separate file, you can upload the entire file.

6. To post to Nomad, I have two windows open on my computer---one for Nomad, and one for Photobucket.

7. Under the picture on photobucket, it will say the name of the photo and the other items listed below.

8. The easist way to now post to nomad is just click on the IMG Code which automatically copies that code.

9. DO NOT use the image button on Nomad, just paste the IMG Code that you copied right into your text. Just hit CTRL-V and the Code copies.

It will look like this only it will have [IMG] at the beginning and the end.

Couldn't show exactly how it will look because then it becomes a picture, but you won't see the picture until after you hit the post button.

It really is faster than it sounds, and as you type your post, you can go back and forth to photobucket, copy and then paste.

Just the way I like to do it---certainly not the only way or only storage place.

I thought I'd play a bit. So I've taken a picture of the image well screen to show you what it looks like. I used another free program to take the shot called SnapNDrag ...http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/snapndrag.html you can select any part of your screen and get a jpeg image that you can drop into image well to re size and post. Fun.

I wanted to try and show the Windows resizer window but could figure out how to do it.

Macs are looking better to me all the time.

I can't say enough about the Mac. A few articles I've read say that Windows XP (of course) runs better on a Mac than some PC machines. The base price hasn't changed much over the last few years of upgrades. So if you are a Windows die hard you can play with the Mac System and or both at the same time. Just a FYI

We came upon this unfortunate group of young adults a little south of Catavina. They were pretty uncomfortable but there wasn't much we could do besides give them some water. An ambulance had been called and we passed it on the highway about an hour later. It was probably 3 hours between the time of the accident and when help arrived....dt

It is really fun to see lots more pictures --- but don't any of you blame me for any domestic disputes as you are hunched over your computer for hours, resizing, uploading, pasting, etc.
