Hi,
I just joined the forum and don't know yet how to post, but I'll get it, so forgive the repeats until I figure it out. Now I'll see where this goes.

By the way on Paulines post it says well behaved women rarely make history.Trust me Nomads 2 tie die 4 is a historical legend hahahaha

2-tie-dye-4 - 9-25-2008 at 11:00 PM

Thanks for the welcome, and I have been warned about the spelling police. So, was this a test?? "An" proceeds a word beginninging with a vowel or an "h", as opposed to "a". Sew, did I pass the test? Isn't there a place somewhere in this forum for interesting signs???

LOSARIPES - 9-26-2008 at 03:15 AM

"An" proceeds a word beginninging with a vowel or an "h", as opposed to "a"

so you say "an horse"........... "an hour" makes sense but an horse?... an house?...no.
Should you say a "silent h"?

The "h" is silent in Spanish. The "j" is pronounced with an "h" sound. Let's stick to the topic of Baja or the BCS retired self-appointed police will be after you for not sticking to the subject on the board. Muy peligroso. You have been warned. Cuidado!

Bob H - 9-26-2008 at 06:17 AM

Welcome to Nomad land! You should fit right in.
And, yes, there is a thread that I started regarding posting interesting images of signs from Baja! Do a search for it.

dye-4: Welcome!

"It Don't make no Nevermind" about your spelling or correct English unless you are trying to impress a bunch of "Do Nothings" who enjoy jumping on "Ole Gezzers", Ole Timers" "Eco Nuts" Weak Minded Liberals" Right Wing Religious Nuts" etc.

So Come to Baja and find out what it is all about, Do Not, and I repeat Do Not take any of the Post as Truth, you must come and Experience Baja as it is, not as some unlearned person who knows nothing about Baja but what he has seen on the computer tries to get across as the Truth!!

Let us know when you are coiming so that you may be properly directed to the Best Places and learn how to avoid the Worst Places in Baja.

dtbushpilot - 9-26-2008 at 07:57 AM

My spelling has gotten pretty bad as I get older. When I was in grade school I was often the best speller in my class but now I have a computer with spell check and have gotten lazy. I figure that if a person can't "sound it out" and figure out what I'm trying to say then it must not be too important........to them or me.

It makes me smile when my spelling is corrected on this board because it searves as a reminder to me that I have a full life with lots of productive things to do........and it doesn't bother me a bit.....dt

Welcome to the board 2-tie...

Wouldn't that be precedes instead or proceeds? Welcome to the board!

If you notice, a lot of my words were mispelled. I was playing, I don't care about spelling but have seen people get chastised for it...so I wanted to play, too. Hey, Skeet, thanks for the advice but I have been to Baja several times. I waited to post until I did know of what I speak. I just got back from a trip to Bahia Asuncion. I agree with your post, but wrong tree here. I posted a trip report on the page that said to do so. I am a newbie, so teach me the ropes kids. Thanks!

Kell-Baja - 9-26-2008 at 11:30 AM

Welcome

1) Incorrect use of 'a lot'
2) 'mispelled' is misspelled
3) 'it...so' should be 'it... so'

Go back to Baja, you've got homework to do. Arrrr!

Depends on where you're at.

I noticed that once again last night watching an English (or a British ? ) mystery on PBS.

In addressing THAT question, do we consider our posts to be IN the United States or in Mexico ? IF we say Mexico, then do American or English rules apply ? What if the person posting is not an American ? In casual conversation, do ALL rules of compostion apply ? How do we classify Internet discourse ?

Obviously, there are a number of questions that must be decided before we go any further (farther ?).

oldlady - 9-27-2008 at 10:57 AM

Bajalera ?

BajaGringo - 9-27-2008 at 11:04 AM

Where It's AT, Mon

MrBillM - 9-27-2008 at 01:03 PM

OR, as the Ebonians would say "Where it be".

Back to my previous post.

Do ALL rules of proper written English (or American) grammar apply ? Which ? Is there some enforcement mechanism envisioned ? Will there have to be an agreement on an official reference text to resolve disputes? Having read and owned many books and articles on the subject, I'm aware that there is much disagreement among scholars on fine points of grammar. Without a single agreed upon reference, we would be in murky waters.

Will there be a penalty regimen ? One, two, three strikes and you're out ? Permanent or a suspension ?

IF such is determined to be the case, there would probably be a lot fewer posts here. In fact, there are some who would be completely barred from posting.

mulegemichael - 9-27-2008 at 01:19 PM

Geez, folks!...why is it SO important that we dot all our "i's" and cross all our "t's"....tell me?...what do you care if i misspell a word or not?...what's it to ya?...stay on the subject and enjoy without criticizing others about their diction...get a life!

Depends on WHO you are.

Where you're at is a state of mind, not necessarily the same as where you are (located). But I get where you're coming from. ;)

Hi tie-dye lady.

Thanks Ken! Geez Louise, I made a joke on my first day in....got a lot of attention so I guess it's a good thing. But when does it end???? I hope some of you folks who are having a problem with my spelling joke will also read my other posts. Must have been fun or it wouldn't still be going, so do as you must. But HEY Y'ALL, there's more than just spelling.....on a good day, I can count, too. But, I'm not ready to show you that yet.
I think you are all just peeed cuz I caught a bigger fish than you did.

Hellooooooo

Sharksbaja - 9-27-2008 at 10:18 PM

So.... would you write, "a Hueneme" or "an Hueneme"?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
p.s. For non-Californios, "Hueneme" is pronounced "why-knee-me".

2-tie-dye-4 - 9-27-2008 at 10:42 PM

Hey Sharksbaja,
Yep, the Jerome mining town, ex ghost town, though it's debateable. Our population is about 480 or less. Used to have about 2 million tourists a year, but the economy has taken a toll here, as well, so the tourism is dropping rapidly. I love your use of words, by the way.

Sharksbaja - 9-28-2008 at 03:02 AM

I love that place. I collect antique bottles(I'll bet you have some nice ones) and wanted to stay a while. On this trip we were toteing around a 25 lb turkey on Thanksgiving Day wondering if we would ever find a vacant hotel room to cook it at. No cigars, all were full, everywhere.
We got snowed in at Flagstaff a few days earlier, found no accomodations in Sedona and wandered thru AZ in hopes of any place to eat & bed down.

We looked at Jerome but really did not see a place so we drove on and ended up in Prescott at a hotel where the manager let us use the meeting room to stay. We cooked up that puppy and man was that a special treat.

A real trip to remember. You must love that endless panoramic view from the side of that great big beautiful mountain.

Now, back to Baja!

edit: Tourism sucks everywhere these days!
