Bike Crash

thebajarunner - 5-25-2004 at 05:06 PM

Sunday, March 21, mid-morning we were South of El Rosario, at the very top of the mountains. We travelled in a group of 6 vehicles, several pulling boats, one pulling a trailer, but we try to keep spacing for anyone wanting to pass. (although 98% of the time we are doing the passing)
As we were cruising along the very top ridges of the Big Mountain a series of large street bikes began working their way through our group.
I was in the lead (my other nick-name is 'Forward Scout') and we were giving CB calls and watching to wave them past, as appropriate.
They all seemed to get by, then two more appeared in my mirror.
Just as we made a couple of sharp 'S' turns, albeit with plenty of visibility, here they came around. I gave them a left blinker and motioned them by,
Then, to my utter horror I see the lead bike, full in my mirrors, lay down and slide across the road, through a highway turn arrow sign, plus a couple of white posts and down a 25 foot bank.
Our guys stopped as well as they could from behind, and Baja Vida and I made a quick U-turn and got back up the hill.
Some of our guys were already directing traffic, two of our guys were down the hill with the rider, along with his travelling partner.
It looked real ugly as we slid down the dirt bank, the poor guy was in real pain, flat on his back.
A passing car stopped, lady said she was on oncology nurse (turned out to be not much help) and we were trying to assess his damage, a couple of us got his green 650 Kawa on its wheels and skidded it across the highway, couldn't figure out how to get it out of gear until we got it into the dirt. Bike seemed in better shape than the rider.
We went back, he was sitting somewhat upright but in real bad pain around the neck and shoulder.
Meanwhile a Mexican had stopped, along with a trucker, they called El Rosario from the truck and arranged for the ambulance to come, seems like the ambu owner was related to the guy who was calling, never did quite get that part straight.
The other rider finally told us to go on, that help was on the way, we left some water and departed.
Later I realized that I had some Valium as well as some Demerol in my truck for emergencies (and for my occasional migraine) but it was probably just as well that we did not dope him up.
The following Sunday we met "Ed" at the City Hall, with the bike, told us the El Rosario ambulance had brought him there, they took him to San Quintin and eventually a San Diego ambulance took him back across the border.
By then he was back in a Calgary hospital with a broken collarbone and a "torn-up" knee. Someone was coming to fetch the bike.
One of our guys has the card of the companion rider but he has been in Bhutan and I have not gotten back this info. I wanted to send the guy some fotos of his "great Baja adventure.'
The only other comment of note was that the other rider said, "We sit in Canada for 6 Winter months without riding, then we come down here and we are pretty wobbly for a while." Yeah!!
All the folks who stopped, the trucker with the phone, the other guy with the ambulance relative, what a neat set of circumstances to help the guy out.
As we departed for LABay we all commented that he was probably lucky it happened there and not on an LA freeway, he would still be lying amongst the debris.
Sorry for the verbosity, but you asked.

Baja Vida may want to add something to this.

You sure one of the drivers wasn't the drinker from Ensenada? Did you file a Report? Just as in the States you need to file in the case of bodily injury. Your entire story smacks of trying to rewrite history. I, for one, would love to hear the riders story. You signalled to let him pass on a curve? WTF. Your story, from what you have written, just does not add up. Who would signal anyone to pass going up that grade? They all "seemed to get by". Why didn't you know they all got by, if you were in CB contact with the others in your group, as you claim? Then you say that they were already coming by, but you still had to give them the blinker? All at the same time you were on S turns. ***************************************************

ouch to both posts!

I think Me No's talking out his helmets' 'earhole', again...

Mexray - 5-25-2004 at 11:11 PM

Lighten up, Me No - you know as well as anyone, that it's the 'Passer's' responsibility to make sure it's safe to pass, and not the 'Passee' - irrespective of the showing of a 'left blinker'...

I looks to me like Baja Runner is just telling it like he saw it. Also sounds like there were many good Samaritans involved at the site, to try and help a fellow traveler.

I've ridden Moto's for years, and it always got my pulse going when hittin' the 'esses' in unfamiliar territory, much less in Baja, where some of the curves tighten up as you run through them...it's also easy to get complacent, and then your tire hits a pebble at the wrong moment when you've got the thing jacked over for max road balance - and find yourself laying it down! It's got to be really tough when one slides over a 25 foot embankment, to boot!

Sure wish some good Baja Buddies like Baja Runner and his friends will stop for me if ever happens down there!

Thanks to Bajarunner!

Mexray, as someone who has been run off the road by one of these caravans, I feel some answers are appropriate. Did the people I was involved with stop? No, but I was in a truck and the result was less severe. Still, there is no mention of a police report, seems like he hightailed it out of there ASAP, after making sure the guy wasn't going to die. So initially the guy may be OK with everything, but when he figures out that his insurance isn't going to cover his medical, he might start wishing someone had cared enough to contact the authorities to make a record of what actually happened.

Mean people posting again

thebajarunner - 5-26-2004 at 09:06 AM

Me No, do your parents know you are up late using the computer?
When you grow up and your Mom takes you down to get a drivers license you can make cheap, "incoherent" shots at others that you do not know.
Meanwhile, put a lid on it, pal.
Those of us who drive the Baja highway know that the ridge road atop the mountain in question has stretches where you can literally see the forward highway for a couple of miles, as was the case in point. I have been driving that road since before it was paved, I know where it is safe and where it is not.
As to the guy passing, what do I have to do with him, it was clear ahead for a mile, he was in the other lane, I gave him the wave.
And yes, we travel in a caravan, and yes, if you had bothered to read my post you would note that we are concious of this and keep spacing for others to pass.
As to driving an hour back to El Rosario to report an accident which I had no part of, you must be kidding, right?
We left the scene only after assurances that the ambulance was en route and the rider's partner insisted that we had done what we could, thanks and go on your way.
Which part of all this did you not understand???
Thanks to the rest for chiming in with me.

More likely they had their hands full driving a rig that they had no business in to begin with.

One thing you people seem to forget, is that this is an internet discussion group. We can put all the niceties away and have a meaningful discussion that benifits everyone. One lined jabs to little to further the discussion. So if you honestly don't care about this subject, or know all you need to know, try not to screw it up.

Truth be told, I hardly ever have met someone in Baja I didn't like. I'm too busy having fun, and catching fish to worry about all the crap. After all there is plenty of people on Nomads to take up the slack:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

KurtG - 5-26-2004 at 09:11 AM

I can't see that Bajarunner did anything improper at all and don't see the need or obligation for him to stick around and do an accident report. I've been riding Hwy 1 several times a year for 30 years now and never forget that I am responsible for my own safety. I appreciate it when a truck or other vehicle gives me the signal to pass but I make the decision to pass or not based on my experience and judgement. When riders new to Baja are along I always give them a little "Baja Lecture" on that subject and make sure they understand that the Life Flight helicoper will not show up. No one forced the rider to make that pass at that place and the bad results are no one's fault but his. Two years ago I had a bike mishap near San Isidro/La Purisima that I described on the old Amigos board, the help I got from the local people there was incredible and the memories of how great they were helped offset the subsequent lengthy recovery.

Me No - 5-26-2004 at 09:46 AM

Kurt G, Thanks for your thoughtful answer.

"Two years ago I had a bike mishap near San Isidro/La Purisima that I described on the old Amigos board, the help I got from the local people there was incredible and the memories of how great they were helped offset the subsequent lengthy recovery."

I have heard many stories like this, people in Baja really look out for one another.

"I appreciate it when a truck or other vehicle gives me the signal to pass but I make the decision to pass or not based on my experience and judgement."

What if you were the last in a line of motorcyclists going down the grade runner describs. Forward scout has given all the others the blinker at the appropriate time, now your turn comes. You can see it is clear to pass, that much is agreed. The blinker is given, that much is agreed, but right when you go to pass, the vehicle shifts into your lane and knocks you off the road. Runner admitted he didn't know the guy was coming around. Then he says he did see him, but he was already passing. WTF? Now unless he is the only person pulling a trailer in Baja that doesn't use both lanes when going around sharp corners in baja, something is missing here. Not to mention, coincedently at the same time all this was happening the guy just lost control of his bike. All by himself. Heres how Runner explains this.

"We sit in Canada for 6 Winter months without riding, then we come down here and we are pretty wobbly for a while."

Give me a break the guy had ridden all the way from canada, and 300 miles into Mexico, all without incident.

Tell me Runner**************************

KurtG - 5-26-2004 at 10:39 AM

Same answer as before, trucks tend to run over into the oncoming lane when there is no oncoming traffic so I make sure the trucker has seen my light in his mirror. They invariably move over at that point. I am very carefull around RV's especially those pulling trailers. I again try to make sure the driver is aware of me and if not wait until I am comfortable making the pass. Sometimes that involves blowing by fast if I feel that is safest. Another factor is that there was a group of bikes here and a lot of riders just don't ride well in groups, if their buddy passed well by God they're going to pass also whether it is marginal or not. But what it all comes down to from my perspective as a rider for some 45 years is that it is the motorcyclist's responsibilty to make these safety related decisions. Another factor is that the riders came down good US highways from Canada and as we all know starting at El Rosario takes a different mind set and riding and driving attitude than before that point. I'm fortunate in that I live where I can ride Ca Hwy 1 through Big Sur on a regular basis which is excellent prep for riding Mex 1.

Me No - 5-26-2004 at 11:14 AM

All true. However, if the driver of the trailer signals you to pass, and all is clear, then the driver pulling the trailer gets over unexpectedly. Bloop over the edge. Seems like a lot of coincidences for the guy just to have gone down by himself at that moment. Maybe, BUT?

Observations from M. (putting on protective gear now)

M - 5-26-2004 at 02:05 PM

Minnow, at least you still have a penchant for picking handles that actually DO describe you.
Changing from ?Minnow? (Small) to ?Me-No? still seems to fit the bill. ?No?, a negative. Fits with,
'Happy-Mad', ?For-Against?, ?Up-Down?, ?Friendly-Mean?, ? Yes-No??
?Me-No?, appropriate.
You still look for suspicious untruths and make nasty comments in even the most conversational posts. Let me just point out a few things that makes me want to bother responding to you at all.

BajaRunner posted a very interesting adventure, a good story, and an example of the courtesy that Amigos try to show both locals and other Baja travelers. Give aid if needed, leave water, make sure help is on the way, signaling ?OK to pass? is another thing I appreciate from locals and travelers.
Stopping to give assistance was very cool not leaving until help was on the way was appropriate. If ANYBODY was responsible to file a police report it was the victim. BR didn?t flee the scene, avoid the police or consider the wasted time from his vacation. Look at your comments and responses

thebajarunner - 5-26-2004 at 02:16 PM

I really did not want to respond again to this person who does not know me (but has all kinds of opinions about me)
My Mom used to read us the story of "The Tar Baby"
The Tar Baby was a most inviting target to hit, kick, pummel and generally take advantage of. But, every time you hit the Tar Baby, you got more tar on yourself.
So, I was not headed back for the tar pit until you spoke.
For the record (For my Nomad friends, not for Mr. Nasty)
1. I am an excellent driver. People who ride with me commend me on this.
2. We were well aware of the bikes, we did signal them past, there was plenty of visibility and safety, he just lost it.
3. I absolutely, absolutely, absolutely did not crowd the line, knowing I had just waved someone around. What kind of competent driver would do that?
4. The bikers had trailered from Canada and were not at all comfortable, as yet, from the Winter layoff. Remember, this was March, they were guys in their 50's, not kids, they had just gotten to the first twisting roads.
5. No, I was not the one who was "busted" in Ensenada for drinking beer in the 'Burb. Not my style, sorry.
6. And finally, my age, while it is none of your business I will say that if you check the records for the 1972 Mexican 1000 I finished second in a truck, and I am not yet collecting Social Security.... does that help?
Thanks for all who came to my rescue, first time I have had a blind ambush on this board, and frankly it gave me brief pause as to whether I wanted to stay, or not.

As for how you picked your handle, Me-No, I am well aware you thought it cute that that is how the Mexicans pronounce Minnow. A clever little play on pronunciation. Tee Hee, yeah, WE ALL got that. I simply pointed out what an EXTRA little bonus that it still remains very descriptive of you.

I did not see the accident, forgive me for being the passenger

BajaVida - 5-26-2004 at 05:54 PM

but thebajarunner was driving safely and did not hit his brakes causing the biker to stop suddenly.

I do know that we stopped immediately and ran to render aid, radioing to our caravan to slow down the oncomng traffic, probably preventing mishaps.

MeNO,you are even worse than you appear to be, and that is difficult to top (or bottom out, as the case may be)
You post early, make the most ridiculous personal attacks upon me, plus some really pejorative (look it up) remarks, get me to reply in righteous indignation, then you edit your post so that the late readers can only see my indignant response.
That is sick, bucko, simply sick.
You wanted a scuffle, you got it pal.
You need help, and you need lots of it.
I resent your personal remarks and comments, I greatly resent your deletion of same after posting them for the early readers to see.
Read the 200+ posts I have written, not a single one is edited, not one. That is because I carefully review them before posting, then I stand by what I said, not take the weaselly cowardly way out and delete after I say it.
George Bernard Shaw told a wonderful story that you should embrace,
It seems that a man got on a train, turned to the stranger next to him and said, "My, I feel terrible, I have the worst upset stomach you can imagine."
He groaned and moaned for a bit, then turned and suddenly vomited all over the stranger in the next seat.
Immediately he smiled, turned around and said, "Well, now I feel much better" as his seat-mate sat, silent, wiping vomit, smelling the sour, putrid fumes form his new strange acquaintance.
Pal, that is how I feel, you are feeling swell tonite, you puked all over a stranger.
Get out of my life, get one of your own.

Bajabus - 5-26-2004 at 10:55 PM

Ya know I tried real hard to see something wrong in bajarunners original post but I am stumped. I mean yeah the caravans are a hassle but it's a free country and everybody has a right to use the road. It seems to me that it is incumbent on the person passing to use good judgment. I personally very frequently do not pass even if I get a blinker from the person I wish to pass if it does not look and feel safe to me. Bottom line, the guy was behind him trying to pass on a curve. Even if bajarunner strayed over the sometimes imaginary line for whatever reason the whole idea behind defensive driving is be in control and alert. Whats the big deal here. I mean if you want an argument lets talk about Bush.

following a caravan of slow moving RVs can be a pain

BajaVida - 5-27-2004 at 06:11 AM

but bajarunner was in a suv/pickup caravan towing a couple of boats, moving at a decent speed, constantly communicating via CB to each other about oncoming and passing traffic

nothin' wrong there

actually, very safe

and please, no Bush discussions

Bajabus - 5-27-2004 at 08:55 AM

hey bajavida I just reread my post and I never said RV, just caravan. Since we are being so dam nit picky here I thought I would let you know.

How would you define a caravan?
Websters defines it as:

Main Entry: 1car?a?van
Pronunciation: 'kar-&-"van
Function: noun
Etymology: Italian caravana, from Persian kArwAn
1 a : a company of travelers on a journey through desert or hostile regions; also : a train of pack animals b : a group of vehicles traveling together in a file.

And the bush comment was a joke

I was defending bajarunner dude.

ssssheeesssss....time for a beer me thinks.

thebajarunner - 5-27-2004 at 09:29 AM

Hey lady, there is life after 'total hip.'
My orthopedic surgeon hiking partner had a total hip done on himself at age 50, then went out and climbed Half Dome and Mt. Rainier, ten years later he is still up on the ski slopes every Winter.
And thanks for the support from 'you know who'

Bajabus- you can't hurt Baja Vida's feelings, he is a tough Democrat who can dish it out, in fact the only reason he does not want to debate Bush with you is that we are headed to Yosemite on Saturday for a 10 mile hike and a 6 hour car ride and he knows the political fur will fly. (But then you mentioned "BEER" and he perked right up....B.V. has his priorities)

As to Dufus, he asked my age, I told him it was none of his business, then I told him quite clearly that I was not old enough to collect my Social Security and he somehow has wrapped a 75 year old man into the equation.
His problem apparently is not just comprehension, but computation as well.

Well Me-No, I'm glad your getting away for a good rest. As for leaving us to 'stress' over this situation, we are not. Actually, from the flying emails, the opinion is of pity for you, that you are in your own world and actually believe and justified in what you are doing and saying. One quote from a Nomadian was, " There but for the grace of God go I"
Amen.
Thanks for the encouragement BajaRunner, actually, I am way ahead of schedule in my recevery, I was out of the hospital in 3 days when the Dr. predicted 5-7. After 8 days, I am doing 21 day excercises. I am a strong motivated gal with things to do. Hopefully, I can get the shoulder out of the way as quickly and catch the end of fishing season. Already have a trip with some 'Baja Gals' planned for the fall. BHL and I plan to hit Mammoth just before shoulder surgery. Have a GREAT time in Yosemite boys!
Hugs, M

bajalera - 5-27-2004 at 02:56 PM

Runner, I liked that road story, but the series of replies that followed has changed one of my views.

It's always seemed to me that despite my strong disagreement with the political views of some of the regular contributors to the Nomad forums, there really isn't anybody I wouldn't enjoy sitting around a campfire with (or maybe hoisting a few in a bar) and talking about Baja California.

Well, scratch that! Me-No (which I'd guess must be based on "Mean-o") is someone so relentless in dumping on other people's parades that it would be difficult for me to discuss BC or anything else with him.

M, that's a formidable set of operations, and it's good news that the first is over. Hang in there, and know that a whole bunch of people are wishing you the best!

Thanks Bajalera

M - 5-27-2004 at 04:38 PM

I'm only 44 so I imagine by age 50 I'm going to be hauling around 20 pounds of scrap metal in my body! NOT THE FIRST OPERATION, last May, I had 2 cervical vertebre colapsed and they had to transplant bone from my hip and screw in a plate. Seems I'm either getting over or looking forward to some kind of surgery lately. Luckily, I just found a great Endocrinologist that is determined to find the cause of all this stuff. Whatever, one step at a time.

As I read through this post my blood pressure went up, and up, and...then I realized what a great bunch of folks most of us are, how helpful to others, how concerned, how supportive. We are fortunate to have such a great collection of friends.

He's doing it again

Dear Bajarunner -

Me-No, Minnow, Mean-No has a long, long, long, history of ill-thought out, drama-inducing posts like this. Do not take it personally.

It started almost three years ago with his anonymous "The girls are ruining the board". He spouts off every chance he gets. He has accused me of fraud, he predicted carnage and "trophy-truck enemas" http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=2349 when DK was going to lead a trip up Matomi canyon, and just a few days ago, on his post asking Margie where Punta Estero was he said:

So when Doug chimed in saying he had deleted the thread, did Me-No have the intregrity to say he was wrong?:lol::lol: (that's a "No")

Second guessing an incident that was not witnessed with people you do not know is reckless and makes one come off looking, "let's just say, less than credible".

I do see that Me-No has taken my suggestion and corrected his spelling from "Chow". Gee Michelle, maybe we should start training pigs.

I have been know in the past to take a Tad of Liquor : Many years ago while living with Enrique Murillo at San Nicolas, he and I would depart for the Isla before Dawn,as the light would allow i would pour us two large "Snao-On Coffee Cups" of Good Tequila, whereby upon reaching the Isla we would commence our Day of Shark fishing "Feeling no pain!"
On Doctors orders I do take a Dram or two of Christain Brothers Brandy aged in the large Vats located very near the Fresno Air Terminal.
At a later date while Loreto, I spent many a Night sitting on "Tio Don O'Neils' Porch consuming a good half a bottle of 'Scorsby" Scotch.
But Alas! Found that Doing {Flip-Flops} in an Airplane gave me a much better High and did not have those awful headaches and Stomach rumbles the next Day.

Flying sounds like a blast--wish I had the dinero to buy a plane.....I suppose I could get one of those ultralights, but I don't think they flip-flop too well!!!!

Me No - 5-28-2004 at 02:32 PM

See what happens when you dare question anything anyone writes here. You get to be called all kind of names. Lots of fun. Then when you lower yourself to the level of your attackers, they turn it around, with the help of their mutual admiration society. This place isn't about the exchange of ideas and the search for truth and knowledge, it's about back slapping and gringo superiority.

Do you think Doug would have had the decency to explain to bajarunner that he was the one that deleted, whatever it was, that made him go off on me. The second or third time. Nope. Do I really care. Why should I. I travel farther in Baja, meet more nice people there, spend more time there, than most of my detractors here on this tread combined.:lol: Go back and read my words, well most of them before I started being sencelessly attacked. Bajarunner, as Jeans pointed out, they started attacking me for things that happened a long time ago. Don't have any illusions that they somehow cared about this situation other than the fact I was involved in it. For those open minded people, read my words, they are genuine. Bajarunners story doesn't quite add up. If they did he probably wouldn't have flown into a rage so easily. Then again it might have just been his, how dare you question me attitude of an ex judge. I guess we will never know as he refused to answer most of the questions I asked.

Jeans and M, I really would try to refrain from calling people PIG.:O

Now, if any of you I have offended really want to find me, I will be out on Punta Estero until September, playing in the surf, riding my motorcycles, exploring, fishing in the bay, or off shore in my new panga for tuna.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Thanks again to the nice people on board

thebajarunner - 5-28-2004 at 04:05 PM

Again, thanks for the kind words of support and understanding following the senseless ambush on my post.
Better not to respond otherwise
(except to say that I appreciate the promotion but I am not a judge, an ex-judge, nor an attorney. I had one class in bus. law by correspondence to get a broker's license, hated it. was asked to teach bus. law at the university when I was teaching but I passed up the opportunity.... not my line of work)
cheers to all the good guys, we are off to Yosemite, snow or no.
As Bajabus pointed out earlier in an e-mail to me, "snow keeps the beer cold" and Baja Vida insists on cold beer.

Skeets, you mentioned Fresno Air Terminal. My daughter is a United pilot stationed out of FAT. Small world.

Margie - 5-28-2004 at 05:57 PM

I just wanted to say that I had to go up to
SD today, and the traffic was awful, wall to wall and a long line coming back into MEX.

So, everybody take care out there, and slow down.

Oh, we caught the mantinee (I'm almost embarrassed to say we went) to The Day After Tomorrow, and I'm not going to spoil

it for you, it wasn't exactly Jane Eyre, but anyways, see it if for nothing else, the funny parts about Mexico, you'll crack up !.

Debra - 5-28-2004 at 07:24 PM

Questioning something isn't (IMHO) causing the problem, it's the 'tone' of your so called questions. I think that is perhaps why the question has been raised that you may have a problem that you might need help with. You do seem to 'flip' for no reason, and without warning, get nasty and mean to total strangers. I have spent time with you around the campfire and you seemed to be a nice enough guy, that is why it is so confusing why you sometimes act as you do on the board. I hope that you have a good and relaxing trip and come back with a kinder, and calmer attitude. It's all good for you (I'd hate to have what I guess your blood-pressure must be lately.) Good fishing, Debra :)

Nail on Head!

Mike Humfreville - 5-28-2004 at 09:40 PM

I was going to say EXACTLY what Deb said but decided it wasn;t worth the effort. I am friends with people on both sides of our mutual "fence" and want to keep it that way.

Debs point is exactly right. It isn't what was said rather the way it was said. Even though we might feel something wasn't quite right with a complex post why blow it way out of proportion by looking for things that may not even exist?

Now pass the wine, please. I have a box of the finest Chablis you'll ever taste.

M!

Mike Humfreville - 5-28-2004 at 10:43 PM

I just reported your post above dated 5/28 at 9:07. This was totally inappropriate. Even if you have knowledge about someone's personal behavior it has no bearing on the current discussion. While we sink very low in some of these arguments, this is, like other posts, below the belt.

I too was surprised at the way minnow attacked the post that opened this thread and I identified with the vast majority who agreed with bajarunner. I wondered where minnow was coming from and what had prompted him to respond as he did.

But your public introduction of *************, even if you have knowledge of one, which I doubt you do, is a cheap shot.

You and BHL and MA and I and many others have been friends for a number of years and I have no wish to damage this relationship (I tried to U2U you but I am too stupid to figure out how to send one), but you are, for the second time, way out of line as a moderator.

You are not free, as a moderator, to speak with the same voice as the normal poster. The ten stars after your name, followed by the term Moderator give you a power that you have abused. You are a "parent" here to help Doug guide the rest of us in moderation. You cannot accomplish this by inflaming situations of your choice. If you want that privilege you need to resign as a moderator and then, please, feel free to say whatever you want.

M is only human, and there is far too much nasty stuff going on in this thread, IMO. However, I would have prefered to just see all of (that person's) posts be deleted rather than a verbal battle take place.
By the way, your Nomad clock is still on standard time... go to 'Your Control panel' then to settings to change to 'Mountain Standard Time' (which is the same as Pacific Daylight Time). You're 1 hr. off... missions to mars have failed over such minor details :-) :-O

oH yEAH!

Debra - 5-28-2004 at 11:56 PM

Missions to Mars has failed......NOT!

But wasn't that a great "party favor' with that rocket launch at Mike. H's and MA's house for the party that night? Thank's again Mike! :) :o :o, I don't know that I will ever see that in my lifetime, thanks for calling in your buddies!

Bajabus - 5-29-2004 at 12:16 AM

A moderator has a unique and serious responsibility.

I also have to say that human or not the post Mike refered to made me feel uncomfortable also, not so much because of what it said but because of where it came from.

If a moderator cannot be absolutly impartial and seperate themselves from the fray then they need to rethink being a moderator.

Wow!

mstranglr - 5-29-2004 at 12:21 AM

I stopped posting on the net prior to the end of the Amigos board. It got pretty bad on the Amigos board, the "David E windows disk soap opera" is one example that comes to mind. There were some great people for the first several years that I participated at Amigos, and I had a lot of laughs and learning experiences. I felt sorry for many of people that posted there towards the end though, there existence seemed very lonely and problematic. From being flamed for keeping my limit to eat, to the America bashing, it got kind of funky over there. Hell, I was even schooled by tons of people who hardly ever go to Mexico about driving at night and the wickedness of my ways for pointing out obvious things like crime and litter in Mexico

I miss the interaction with some of my fellow fishing freaks, soooo I decided to try again hoping things have changed.

I see that there is more politics and infighting than before, but heck, that can be pretty intertaining and good for laughs, as long as people do not stoop to the lowest levels of human fecalism.

Boy was that a mistake!!! If you accused me of **************, I would HAVE YOUR ASS, beleive me, one way or another.

Good bye.

I hear you. I emailed Deb a box of red and she's incoherent for now. (smilyface here but I'm too stupid to grab it)

If you go to the general discussion center forum of this page (not actually the name but you can figure it out) you can avoid all the non-Baja stuff, also valuable, that offends some of us. bajanomad has many pages you would enjoy that exclude politics etc. Find them and enjoy. If you get too p-ssed off Fred's board offers a tranquil compromise.

Skeet/Loreto - 5-29-2004 at 04:55 AM

Good Morning Mike: A Gentleman Ever: it is no wonder that your Words are Kind an well Writtin!

There is a vast difference in the Posters on this Board and the Net as you well know!
Most all of the posters that fuss and fight have a very common Thread: that is to say that At times they cannot "control their Passions and Keep their Desires in Due Bounds'.

Through I do not agree with Barbara Striestrand's Politics, her song "People who Need People" says a Lot.

It sometimes Appears that there are people on both boards that are "Crying out in the Night for Help! Just to be Listened to!Just to Lighten their Load.

academicanarchist - 5-29-2004 at 06:52 AM

It is really sad to see people who need to be so nasty and rude to build up their own self esteem. People come to this forum for fun and to share information, and there is no need to behave the way that Me No did. A comment to M. Only 44 and having such problems? I have made it to 48, and have only had one minor operation on a knee. I must be doing something right. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Migrane Headaches

Margie - 5-29-2004 at 01:47 PM

Hi Bajarunner, I'm sorry you have migranes, they are so horrible. Anyways, ask your Doctor about this: Elevil, or Amitriptyline, at a low dose of 10-50 mg. per night.

Both my neighbor and I have gone through MRI's, and all the meds out there to control these Migranes. They don't know why the Elevil works, it's supposed to be an anti-depressant, but in low dose forms, it acts as a muscle relaxant, and it works.

Also, it is not hard on your blood vessels by neither constricting them or opening them up, which is kinda bad as far as a stroke goes. And not habit forming like Valium.

You used to be able to buy this down here, but no more, unless you have a doctor's prescription.

Ask your doctor or Neurologist, hope you feel better.

Your point is VERY well taken. Sometimes it's just hard to sit back (on your hands, as I try to do, not very well I might add) and listen to blatant lies from someone that doesn't know anything (wasn't there) about a situation. I'm not talking about the politics (I personally can't wait for this election to be over) I'm talking about the personal attacks (if I hear one more word about my Quad accident I'm going to PUKE!....my fault!, no one but myself!)

Me No's list:

"Travel Pearl thinks she is a Quad Racer" where the heck did you hear that Me No? Anyone that knows me knows that I'm terrified of those things, that is why I asked the owner of that Quad to go with me! I broke my back.....SO WHAT! I'm walking, and it's all good! I still thank my lucky stars (and the person that was with me, Thank you, you know who) that I'm here and safe and able to fight a good fight.

So, Please Tom......have a good vacation and CHILL OUT!

and if that isn't an option for you, how about you just stay away from us people that you obviouslly can't stand?

Debra - 5-29-2004 at 03:02 PM

Sorry, but I think "M" does a really good job of restraining herself, if any of us remember she got so sick and tired of this SAME BS on the Amigo's board she left and came here and offerded herself to help Doug give us a place to share with each other, to our "shigrin" the "meanies" followed.

I didn't see in "M's" post anything about having any "inside knowledge" about anyones drug use, she simply wondered and offered her help if need be, Skeeter did also.....Yes, she was curt (who can blame her) If you get kicked often enough, you kick back.

There is a great special on PBS right now dedicating the Memorial of the WWII Vets, I'm going to go watch it and , leave this triva alone :)

Baja Vida and I, along with my pilot daughter and her friends, just survived a nominal 9 mile hike at 8500' elevation down to Tuolumne Falls. Folks it don't get much better!! Yesterday it snowed, today was glorious.
Then we discover that we have made Meano's hit list... wow, gonna run us off the road. Well, as he said in his first post, I am an incompetent driver so he could probably accomplish this quite easily>>>> NOT!!! Bring it on, Buckwheat!
Anyway, thanks to M for your support. For your (and Meano's) info, the Valium and the Demerol are in prescription bottles, with my name and the doc, isn't that supposed to be o.k.?? Even in Baja. And if someone is lying in agony is it a crime to give them one?? Even though I did not!
Margie, thanks for the thoughts on migraines, will ask my doc for thoughts on these, a 10 grain Valium usually works, have not had one yet this year, actually, but the Valiums do knock me out for a while
Yep, those screamers are brutal when they set in.
Would you believe, the first one I ever had was at the Flamingo Motel in Ensenada before the Baja 500 in 1972, my first race?? Blame it on the Baja.
