the president said that the commercial electric rate will be reduced by 20% he didn't mention domestic (residential) electric rates. he stated that this reduction will help offset business operating costs and keep job loss from happening. his announcement was made on national television at about 9pm BCS time.
last time I bought propane here in loreto it was 495 pesos for a regular sized tank. i need another tomorrow so hoping to get that new rate as well.

backninedan - 1-8-2009 at 04:01 PM

From what I hear, the only electric rate going down will be the commercial price. We shall see.

I've never seen a 35 Kilo tank. Is it off your trailer? The common tank here is 45 Kilo, about 70 inches tall.

Bob and Susan - 1-8-2009 at 04:32 PM

yup...i made ANOTHER mistake

the standard tank here is 30kg
i just looked on the tank

the propane guys are exchanging the 45kg tanks for 30kg tanks
they only want to use the 30kg tanks

A Google translation of what was proposed.

By the Federal Government announced 25 measures, and would like to share some of the most relevant.

First, the Federal Government will protect jobs and workers. We want to create temporary employment opportunities and we will also support those who come to losing his job.

The measures are:

One is to extend the Temporary Employment Program, and thus we will generate 250 temporary jobs thousand additional to those already planned. Those without work may be employed in work that will benefit your community, such as construction and improvement of public schools, the preservation of cultural or archeological sites, construction of rural roads, preventing fires in our forests and others.

Two. It will launch the Program for Preservation of Employment. This we will protect the jobs of workers in those businesses and industries that may be affected by the international economic situation.

To this end, the Government will contribute an amount to each employee whose company is located in what is called work stoppage as a result of this crisis in order to avoid having to lay off their workers that company.

Third. In the coming days will send to Congress an initiative for a greater number of workers who might be unemployed, may also withdraw money from their individual retirement accounts and also may increase the amount they can withdraw.

Four. We will expand from two to six months coverage of health care and maternity benefits in Social Security. This could be the workers who are unemployed and their families will continue to manage to get medical attention while another job.

Secondly. The Government also intends to support the economy of Mexican families through the following measures.
One was freezing the price of petrol across the country that has not increased.

Two. Is reduced from the month of January the price of LPG, the gas you use in your kitchen, a ten per cent and will remain so throughout the year.

Three. We will support low-income families so they can change their refrigerators, air conditioners your old articles, so that they can reduce the amount of your receipt of light.

Thirdly. The Government will strongly encourage the productive sector, particularly small and medium-sized Mexican companies, with measures like these.

One is reducing electricity tariffs, industry and trade as much as 20 percent to support the productive sector, to safeguard jobs for Mexicans, and companies will reduce their production costs to continue to operate and not have to lay off their workers.

Two. Is increased and credit support to small and medium enterprises, so that our rural entrepreneurs and the city can move forward with their small businesses and thereby protect thousands of jobs.

Three. The Federal Government's aim is that by 2009 at least 20 percent of all purchases are made to do precisely to small and medium-sized Mexican companies.

Fourthly. We will implement the largest infrastructure program in recent times in order to boost economic growth, increase the country's competitiveness and create more jobs for Mexicans.

What does the development of infrastructure.

It means more welfare, more public services to communities in the country, more roads, ports, airports. It means clean water, schools with adequate means for our children, rural roads to link isolated communities, but especially infrastructure means more jobs for thousands of Mexicans, and especially in times like this, which require sources income.

In fifth place. We will ensure a transparent exercise, efficient and timely public spending. And with that goal we will remove the obstacles and bottlenecks that prevent us from exercising timely budget and can detonate and investment projects that generate jobs and improve the quality of life of all Mexicans.

This Agreement shall be joined with specific state governors, legislators, employees, employers in the country.

Mexicans now know what to do and we are acting in a timely manner and with all means at our disposal so that you and your family can live better in difficult times.

Ladies and gentlemen:

I know that the situation is strong, it is difficult, it is challenging, but you can be assured that we Mexicans united to overcome the effects of Mexico in this difficult world situation and we will proceed.

The Agreement for Economics and Employment is a step that allows us to join forces so that together we move forward with our families and we take forward our beloved Mexico.

This is a historic moment in which all show our love for him to work to Mexico.

Therefore, I invite you to do that in 2009 the challenge of each and every problem an opportunity to transform the country, to change what is wrong and to improve what we are doing well, to leave behind fears and prejudices and look more confidence to the future.

Pulling even and working together we will make 2009 a good year for Mexico.

I am very grateful for your attention and I reiterate my most sincere congratulations for the coming year.

Thank you very much.
