BajaNomad

The Top Dozen Posting Nomads (today)

David K - 5-5-2009 at 10:57 PM

The top dozen highest posting Nomads are listed here. The list shows four things:

Nomad number (Doug 'Baja Nomad' is #1, first to be a Nomad); Nomad name; Date joined; Number of posts (not deleted).

After Doug, I am the oldest 'active' Nomad member... #2-#9 never/ rarely posted the first month of the first year (2002)... Explains the high number of posts I have along with my passion* for sharing what I have learned, experienced, seen in Baja....

(*some of you would say "my big mouth")

Dennis, being a newer Nomad (2006) has an amazing number of posts for such a short time!

Capt. Mike and Dave also joined Nomad in the first year, 2002 and are in the top 12.

The late 'jrbaja' and his other handle 'Ski Baja', together almost caught up to me in total posts before his far-too-early passing.

Almost making the list is bajalou, who has just over a dozen posts less than Dave.

The point is I really enjoy reading your Baja travel stories, seeing your photos and hearing of your events. Keep it up Nomads...

The List (click on Member List for more detail, at the top of each page):

#10 David K 8-30-2002 18163

#2977 DENNIS 9-2-2006 7009

Thank goodness there are people that live and breathe Baja forums. The expertise provided helps the rest of us who waste our free time watching the dumbing-down tube.

thebajarunner - 5-6-2009 at 08:19 AM

I wish that Doug would remove the post count (I have asked this before)
Then the board might get more into function and less into "stuff"
just my opinion.

David K - 5-6-2009 at 08:57 AM

Diver: Sorry that you see contributions and sharing as 'bragging'... That is never the reason for my posts... As we haven't met, you obviously don't understand me or my motives. The people who know me (many here), understand that I am 'addicted with Baja Fever', and am always a nice guy to everyone... politics doesn't matter.

This writing about Baja is something I have done since I was a teen, back in the 70's... Now, nearing 52 years of age, my passion is as strong as always. It is not bragging, and as with any posts on Nomad, reading my writings here is an option.

I hope to always provide details that are of interest and help to improve anyone's Baja experience...

Have a nice day!

To Bajaboy and others, please post often with your Baja passions... it IS quantity that matters! Don't be fearful that your posts aren't high 'quality' and that some loud mouths will shoot you down. More Nomads POSTING about Baja does make Baja Nomad the best Internet source for Baja information and discussion!

To thebajarunner... there is no reward or gift for number of posts, it is just a gauge... like an altimeter showing your elevation. I don't think Nomads post just to get high rankings... Except perhaps in the beginning so they can have an avatar? I look forward to seeing more and more Baja posts from everyone with something to share here!

Since I am quite sure that you could have made your "point" without the reminder about your post count, it seems like bragging to me. I'm not sure what anyone's post count has to do with anything. The fact that Pompano is not on the "current" list is a fine example. Just my opinion... :light:

Because Baja Nomad does to show how many posts Nomads have... How else would I know who has the top 12 number of posts?

That I am one of the top 12 matters not to me... It was just time to encourage Nomads to post more Baja stories, so this is how I did it... I also bump up old stuff that may be forgotten or not seen by newer Nomads.

Now, how about something from you other than 'nasty' comments? I have told you I am not bragging and I have no reason to lie, so please accept that... Focus on Baja, not on me!

Now, I have some work to get to... See you later!

Natalie Ann - 5-6-2009 at 10:37 AM

David.... you telling me the top 12 posters by count (and reminding me that you were one of the first nomads) does absolutely nothing towards encouraging me to begin a thread about my Baja adventures.

If you're so likeable in person, how about sharing that guy with us instead of this one with the seemingly huge ego? I'd so like for us to all just get along.;D:P:biggrin:

Come on, folks! That's DavidK's nature. He's a Baja addict with an itch.

toneart - 5-6-2009 at 02:03 PM

I personally would cut David a little slack. While I can understand that his posting style may grate on some, I cannot fault his passion for Baja. I have learned from many of his contributions. When he interjects right wing politics in the mix, I call him on it. I don't like that because, obviously I don't agree with him there. Overall though, his presence is positive and beneficial.

Some strings are political by nature because they involve international politics. Commenting with a political viewpoint may be valid in that context, but in my opinion, just throwing out a right wing talking point, out of context, for shock value(?) is being out of line.

David does seem to be a gentleman though, and in our few exchanges, he has never shown disrespect for me.

David=>>>>:saint::?::no::rolleyes:

no need to defend...u are great and i always feel your support. just consider the source. nasty and sarcastic comments do chase away newbies. thanks for being here, david.

ELINVESTIG8R - 5-6-2009 at 02:57 PM

Some of you people just need to get off of David's back. Ok, if he posts something political in here with his regular stuff then call him on it. If not, leave him the hell alone. It is apparent to me and most people that David has a great love for everything Baja which shows in his personal web pages as well as what he writes on BajaNomad. My guess would be that many who attack David do not share the same political views as him and because you know his politics you just don't like him. That is only my opinion and like many other opinions on this forum it probably stinks too.

Hang in there David

thebajarunner - 5-6-2009 at 03:11 PM

The last couple of posts are right on!
You are a good guy, you love Baja, you share good stuff.

My comments on removing numbers were not aimed at you, actually, there are others on this board who seem to just post to make the counter spin....
and they (and we) know who they are.

As a matter of fact, I have had nice in person time with David and his lovely other, have frequently communicated by phone and email on specific topics, and have invited him to accompany our merry band of Baja Boyz on our annual trip.

He is solid, sincere, and a friend

Dick

Hi guys, back home from working out in the sun on a customer's drip watering system (for his wife's vegetable garden he is making her for Mother's Day). Oh, you don't care what I was doing? That's okay, because I just added one more post to my count!

(It really isn't about me... I am only here expressing my thoughts about posting on Nomad... and no Ron, no desperation here... I am quite happy)

Seriously... I just would like everyone to post MORE Baja stuff... More quantity from all of you... Do it! Viva Baja!!

Thanks to those who said nice things... It really is better to be friendly, isn't it?;D

Fred - 5-6-2009 at 04:22 PM

David K...............As I have said before I have gotten great info from you and the site. Makes my travels in Baja must better since I started reading these posts. I love the humor and also the ones who can FIRE and also take it in return.

24baja - 5-6-2009 at 04:48 PM

When I first started posting, David was helpful and encouraging, he never acted condesending or better than me, he politely answered my questions on this and another forum. I have grown to respect his information and posts because I know he has many years experience and he will share. Not like some of you who treat newbies like they are a pain in your forum (didn't want to add cuss word)! The only reason I have managed to stay around is because nice people have talked to me along the way.

So enough of my temper tantrum, Thanks David for all your help. Connie

David K, we may not agree on politics and I have to say that from time to time you REALLY get to me with those little asides.

But your friendly, informative, helpful posts about Baja are the greatest. You take a lot of time generously answering people's questions, and your Baja knowledge is amazing! Even your old family photos are very cool, and I hope we get to meet you someday.

Phil S - 5-7-2009 at 07:12 PM

I was starting to get parnoid about David being "jumped on", and no one letting Diver know WE don't give a crap about what he thinks about David K. But this post says it all. People in glass houses shouldn't~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~. David does have his 'friends' after all. We know David and Love David. Not many can say the same about Diver??????????? Geeezzzzzz. I read & love Davids info. And either I'm bulletproof, or some folks are just plain, "paranoid"??????? i've never been bothered about what David has to say. I love what he has to say. I don't remember anything Diver has to say. I remember most of what David has had to say over the years.!!! Yahhhhhh. I know. Another post!!!!

Bajaboy - 5-7-2009 at 08:34 PM

I know Diver and DK and like them both. They both have a lot to offer. I don't think this topic needs to be for or against either of them.

DK- I guess my point is there are plenty of people with a number of posts that little to do with Baja. On the other hand, there are plenty of folks that offer pertinent, interesting info when appropriate. Thus, I'll state it again that quality of posts is far more important to me than the number of posts a person makes.

Zac

David K - 5-7-2009 at 09:26 PM

Sure Zac... if 'quality' to you means post about Baja travel... then YES, I am for 'quality posts'... BUT, I would like to see MORE quantity of 'quality' posts...

There is no limit on how many posts one can make... the hope is they are about Baja or about members of Baja Nomad... In fact, if they are not about Baja or Baja Nomads, then they would likely go to 'Off Topic'.

Thanks Phil S... I am not sure if we ever met, so I can tell the gang that you aren't a personal friend looking out for me! :o

The other Phil, 'Phil C', I have met... he and his wife attended Viva Baja Cactus (11-06) and I did some irrigation work for him recently... But, you are not that Phil! :light:

I am only sorry that I didn't know Diver was at Baja Cactus Motel on Jan. 2, 2009 when I tried to get a room (it was full)... I would have liked to meet him, learn his real name, thank him for buying the 'got baja?' hats from me, etc.

Ford - 5-7-2009 at 09:48 PM

I think David and Diver might be the same person! That would really make him sik!

For those that did not know him. Check out some of his old posts. He was a very sane part of this board.

Yes, long time, no hear from SeaTwill! Here are a couple photos from Viva Baja #3 (2002):

Cary 'Seatwill' was one of the first to arrive. He recently vacationed in Fiji, and took a Viva Baja sticker there! See his miltary checkpoint photo on http://DavidKsBaja.com/checkpoints.html

Debra, please post more... Your stories are great... You could really tell some about Mike Humfreville, I bet! (all in good fun... when you were a passenger with Mike and Mary Ann... How about how you came to meet the Amigos de Baja in 2001... and rode a train from Washington to join us in the Viva Baja 4WD van maiden voyage to BBBB-1, Camp Gecko, Gonzaga Bay, etc... Now, you have your own home at Camp Gecko...

You CAN tell us more interesting stories!

So this is how we do it!

TMW - 5-9-2009 at 10:46 AM

As for Baja, at KM 124/125 south of El Rosario there is a side road. If you go down it for 1 mile there is a set of rocks with bushes around them. One rock has a darker shade of gray to it and under that rock is a suborder Sauriawith with a moderately elongated body. I'm not sure if it is a terrestrial or burrowing species. If anyone is in the area and spots it perhaps you could find out by followig it to its home.

I have to LOL when I see that picture! Hadn't thought about that in ages............That is Mike in that photo....what a great time I had........(before I died trying to use my cell to call a taxi of course!)

Okay I'll bite........I'll tell the story of my first Amigo's de Baja trip, but, be warned DK,........ I tell................. ALL OF THE STORY!

Debra - 5-9-2009 at 04:15 PM

I will prefess this by telling how I came to the adventure in the first place.

Long story short.........I was "pirated" by DK from another Baja site, new to the internet, I at first ignored him (I had heard the "net" was a dangerous place :o..........one night after returning from the hosiptal tending to my very pregnate daughter and my 2yr. old G-daughter that had been hit in a roll over T-Bone accident I found an email from Mr. K. inviting me to an online chat, I was feeling pretty low and upset and needed to 'chill' so I went on line, there I found what would become later some of my best friend in my life (you know who you are :D )

As time when on I was talked into coming down for what would be "M's" first BBBB.......I'm told 82 "Amigo's" showed up for that first event.

Soooooooooo by the time I'd decided to really go it was too late to get a good deal on an airline, so after confering with DK I alone, hopped a train with the promise that a total stranger would pick me up and give me his spare room "map room" Huh?, I know you are wondering WHAT THE HECK WAS I THINKING! me too..........

When I finally arrived at Oceanside and got off the bus I saw this man and a little blond girl (8 then I think) waiting across the way, don't know how I knew, but, I did, it was David and his daughter Sarah, I was welcomed with big hugs from both and felt safe and secure..........Until day 2.

Off we go the next morning in Amo's brand spanking new 14 passenger 4X4 van to pick up others that will join us. Great trip, GREAT PEOPLE, until we picked up Dahveed (but that is a another story)

We arrive at Ceilito Lindo and meet up with the group, I'm kind of hanging back on my own because I know no one and feeling abit out of place....that didn't last long as people kept coming up to me "HEY, YOUR TRAVELPEARL, BEEN WAITHING TO MEET YOU!" thanks again David, no keeping a low profile with you as my host  On to the Margarita contest, this came to be my real Oh Crap moment..........thanks to Bedman!

I started out as all in good fun, warning here........NOBODY, NOBODY accept a Margarita from Bedman! I kept passing the ones he put in my face away........ too bad David was the closest one to me and being the gentalman I learned him to be, or, probably more to the point, he had just dealt with 11 passengers in the van and needed a destresser? HA!

Then came Desert Bull's chain saw blender.......only way I know how to describe it, that is what it sounded like. AND, the contest begins! What a blast! but, again, me being out of my element I'm hanging back, watching and laughing my butt off.......don't know what time it was but, we all were off to our tents, RV, Campers whatever (3AM me thinks) I'm settling down in my tent and I hear gut renching pucking near, and if I remember right a few prayers might have been thrown in there...........so I get out of my tent and find my host..........now I'm really thinking WHAT THE HECK DID I GET MYSELF INTO!!!!! I'M AT THIS DRUNK'S MERCY FOR 14 MORE DAYS! YIKES!.............but, all was well (how we bond while rubbing someone's back and holding their hair while they puke, LOL!!!!!!! (sorry DK, you encourged me and I told you I would tell ALL of the story)

Morning comes and it seems a trip to the beach is in order.......off we go (some moving slower than others TEEHEE) Love you brother, but, you know it wouldn't be all of the fun if I didn't share............

This huge van is loaded down and our host decided to give it a test (not a good plan as it turned out, but, one of the high-lights for all of us.......a great story to tell. David decided that this monster van can tackle huge sand dunes, WHOOPS! But to the rescue MMMMMMMMMMMMM! She pulls that thing out by herself and just a tow rope on her back while all the big strong men fail! Way to go M!!!!!!! What a gal!

David I ask that you supply pictures to the naritive, come on, I know you have them!

If I'm not boring all of you I will come back later with the next 2wks.

DK is an absolute treasure to this website. Unquestionably dedicated, fixated on Baja. If I could make just one suggestion- DK should stick to his schtick. Meaning that very obviously, when he wanders off to social and political issues, he gets mugged by a number of nomads. Hey. If he can handle it, fine. But all the bandwith eaten up with the blather, just doesn't make sense to me.

Oh, I have video footage of that major stuckage. Looks like another journey to the youtube site is in order. :bounce::spingrin::lol:

Good to see you posting again, Debra. David was a loose cannon but I was well behaved on that trip, right? :o

Debra - 5-9-2009 at 05:43 PM

DK is a "treasure" anywhere he goes, he helps more "newbies" with the same questions that they ask over, and over again with kindness and gentleness while the rest of us sometimes roll our eyes...........

As too his polititics and everybody else's.......I agree, take it to the board it belongs on. It was him after all that asked Doug for that forum and it seems it's working............

If I want to fight with him, which I often have, I take it to U2....right David?

In the 9yrs. that I have known David, never have I ever seen a mean bone in his body, he gets miffed with the attacts and spouts off, who of us wouldn't?!

David is and has always been on the top of my (thank you Baja friends) list when I have needed help, when my son, I, and baby G-daughter broke down, it was David that put the word out on the board and I had complete strangers contacting me willing to come pick us up and shelter us, from San Francisco Ca. to La Paz Mexico........within a few minutes I had a call from Mary Ann Humfreville , Mike had been reading David's board message I guess (Mike and I were having a spat at the time so he in his sturborn way didn't call me himself) Mary Ann told me that Mike had told her to call me and find out what I needed, I could have got my truck fixed and headed back home, but our trip would have ended..........MA told me that Mike said NO WAY!, "what does she need". By the next day I had a FedEX cashiers check for $1500USD Thanks to advice from Soulpatch I had a new engine and was on my way 2 days later! my kids and I had 2months of Baja fun!!

David is what Choral Pepper called him, the "Baja Connection" and if some get miffed by his style?...........just wait until you need help, he will be the first to come to your aid!

NOMAD REGISTRATIONS BY YEAR

Marla Daily - 5-9-2009 at 10:15 PM

How many users have registered each year, beginning in 2002, regardless of post numbers?

What numbers of posts are "needed" to "elevate" (or self levitate)?

How many for Nomad God?

Seriously, I didn't realize there was a competetion. I've personally been dissed for having so many posts in a short time. Many factors involved, including that I hate to mix two thoughts in a single post. and that I have no life.

Thank you Debra very much... Happy Mother's Day to you, too!

The van's transfer case popped out of 4WD while I was driving it on the sand dune... and that is why it stuck... The van was awesome otherwise.

It made for a great show and comedy section of El Camote's BBBB-1 video... M pulling on the tow strap as we all tried to figure why the van suddonly went down. Neal Johns and Bedman both came over to me and said only the back tire was spinning... and once I re-engaged the transfer case, drove right out of the hole...

Photos of the entire trip Debra described is at http://vivabaja.com/van1

The Amo Pescar Viva Baja Tours 4WD van, fully loaded at Alfonsina's... on the beach at the far north house where we camped. One of the passengers (Desert Rat) had permission from the home's owner to stay there. We had an awesome campfire with all of us good amigos!

I also have to chime in and thank David for all the time and energy he spent with us before and during our first trip to Baja. I have to chuckle when I think of how "green" we were.

Also a huge thank you to so many other Nomads that stepped in and helped...Debra, it blows me away how generous you were to offer us the use of your motor home! Elgatoloco... wow, such great hospitality!!!

This is a good place to be:yes::yes:

Kinda says it all, doesn't it. Thanks.

David K - 5-10-2009 at 10:03 AM

I met Marie-Rose at our favorite breakfast place in Vista, Sunrise Cafe several years ago as she and her husband were half way to Baja Sur from Canada and took the time to meet me there.

Thanks Marie-Rose, the pleasure was mine.

All Nomads I have met in person have been great people... It is just a few with sour grapes that I hope to meet and make friends with still.

The only time I think I ever talk politics is in a response to someone else... I don't believe I have ever started a political rant, I only offer some balance to the heavy left leaning that sometimes can be seen here. Certainly there can be a freedom of ideas in our society for both or all sides, I should hope.
While others may avoid the subject to remain 'friendly' to all... I want you all to know that my friendship with all of you will never have anything to do with politics... I don't care what you think, I only want us all to enjoy talking about Baja... it is what we have in common that counts here!
