The breeder called us - he had a litter of eleven Great Dane puppies.
We had bought a black puppy from him from a previous litter.
He said, "I have a one-eyed merlequin that I can't sell, so I am going to club it to death."
We drove up and brought the one-eyed puppy home.
He was very sick - the Parvo vaccination brought to the forefront the already incipient disease.
He stopped eating - we fed him liquid food injections around the clock for fifteen days.
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of his welcome to our home. He weighs 100+ pounds, runs around the yard and leaps over planters. He has no
idea that he is blind and deaf.
He inspires me to not be afraid of my challenges.

Gypsy Jan,
What a great story. Do you have a picture to post of the little guy?

I have tried to size down digital pictures using "Paint" with no luck.
If any Nomad wants to walk me through the process, I will be eternally grateful.
The one-eyed white merlequin Great Dane's name is Pilikea (Trouble). All of our Danes have Havaiian names because my hubby was raised in Hawaii.

Thats a great "little" story Gypsy Jan, Great Danes are the greatest companions there is.
This one sounds no different. Have had them my whole life and they were all fantastic.
Unfortunately due to their size their life span isn't the longest.
Have fun with your "baby"!!!
Length vs Quality

Yes, loscabos
Big dogs don't live very long compared to humans.
But their big hearts and unconditional love make up for the short time in our life.
If there is an afterlife, I believe that they are waiting to greet me.

Call us crazy - I think that we are blessed, but the food bills are ****.

Good for you. It is not uncommon to see abandoned dogs. You rescued your dog and all animal lovers sould be thankful to you.

'God gave us dogs to show us unconditional love,' a good friend told me and I weep to the truth of that.
BajaNuts - 5-16-2009 at 04:53 PM
gypsyjan,
for the picture, maybe you can email it to someone and they can post it. I'm willing but I've had marginal luck posting photos. I'm sure someone
else can post it for you. Let me know if you want to send it to me.

Several wonderful Nomads have offered to help out the lame necho idiot (me).
Hubby has promised to transfer the jpegs (?) and I will email attachments to Geoff and others who have volunteered to post the pics when I figure it
out.
Ken Bondy - 5-16-2009 at 07:24 PM
Jan I would be happy to post them for you. Send them to me at ken@kenbondy.com

Yes, Jan, it is easier to have one of us post the photo for you. 1-1/2 years ago I was the same way.
There is a lot of satisfaction in knowing one accomplished the task at hand on our own.
The easiest way is to join www.photobucket.com (free). I am sure you know where your photos are in your computer. Photobucket will ask you if you wish to download photos.
You then browse through your album and pick the photo and it automatically downlods it for you. For the display, pick a medium size screen.
I am sure you must have done a cut & paste before (alt V and alt C).
Open another window and go to the Nomads website. Type your post, but don't post it yet.
Go back to the photobucket site and click on the bottom menu of the photo.
Do a alt V. Go back to the Nomads post. Do a alt C. And voilee! Your photo is posted!
With some practice this operation can be done in about two minutes.
Believe me it's a lot easier than resizing the photos in your photo album.
