MAJOR CHUBASCO COMING!!!!

Hook - 7-12-2009 at 09:14 AM

There is a large area of thunderstorms covering a large portion of the middle Sea. The radio is crackling with boats desperately making it back to shore in winds exceeding 30 knots thus far.

Be aware. Looks like it could extend over to Baja. Very large area.

dtbushpilot - 7-12-2009 at 09:17 AM

Do you have a link to info? Thanks.....dt

Hurricane Carlos is out to sea, but, has more of a chance of hitting Hawaii than Baja!

Hook,

That is a rough looking suspect moving it's way up. The same storm that Russ is watching.

Not worried here in La Paz, but it could get Hook.:O:O

Libertygoat - 7-12-2009 at 10:59 AM

The storm that's headed right for the bay.

Stay safe everyone! Hope it does not hit as hard as it looks.

Russ - 7-12-2009 at 11:01 AM

I'm buttoned down and will post as info changes: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=40028

805gregg - 7-12-2009 at 11:54 AM

How would you like to out in that on a PWC?

vandenberg - 7-12-2009 at 12:21 PM

Just a little rumbling and a few sprinkles here in Loreto as it went by.

BajaBruno - 7-12-2009 at 12:25 PM

It looks like Conception Bay and Mulege are going to get the brunt of it---assuming I'm reading the sat photo correctly.

Hook - 7-12-2009 at 12:32 PM

I wonder if this could dump rain in John proportions in the mountains west of Mulege?

I'd be keeping an eye on it if I lived along the river.

Bob and Susan - 7-12-2009 at 01:17 PM

actually we got a few winds at 1pm

blew a lot of stuff around

the hobie blew over
first time for that

its upright on the ground right now

and we got some sprinkles

but not too bad overall

it'll be green next week

right now high clouds and cooler

Black clouds and Thunder in Pescadero

HaciendaCerritos - 7-12-2009 at 01:27 PM

I don't think this has much to do with the Chubasco a little further North, but here at Cerritos Beach outside of Pescadero we're looking at black clouds, little wind, no rain yet but lots of thunder. Looks menacing but hasn't stopped the surfers.

You all know me as katiejay99, I'm now manager of the Hacienda Cerritos and will be posting under this name for now on.

Cypress - 7-12-2009 at 01:42 PM

So we're gonna freak out every time a squall blows thru?:?::lol:

vandy - 7-12-2009 at 01:55 PM

Thanks! it looks like it's hitting Mulege, but leaving he East Cape alone

Russ - 7-12-2009 at 02:23 PM

Cypress, I might be a squall in spudsville but down here it's a perfectly good storm. Good training for the big one. Winds still 25+ skies are lighter and I can see the peninsula now.
No rain and it sounds like a good Pacific side storm. Storm surf is only 3' on the beach in front of my casita.

Loreto

tehag - 7-12-2009 at 02:26 PM

Pretty good rain here for an hour or so, almost constant thunder, some wind, white caps, blew some dirt and leaves around. Ended 2ish. Maybe enough water to kick the bloom into gear. Bad day for boating.

Cypress - 7-12-2009 at 02:32 PM

"A perfectly good storm." Spudsville? Been thru more major storms than you can dream of down along the MS/LA coast in the USA. They'd torq your little weather station and all it's attached to. Hope you survive this little squall.:tumble:

Bob and Susan - 7-12-2009 at 02:45 PM

on the bay here in mulege
it was just a BIG wind and a little sprinkel

just enough water to keep the dust down

now at 3:45pm high clouds and NO WIND:P

temp still 90 degrees

Cypress - 7-12-2009 at 02:53 PM

Russ, Appreciate your weather reports and concern for the fisheries in the Sea of Cortez.

you are correct! kept me busy yesterday I had a boat at Coronado that I was in contact via VHF and he never saw it coming until I told him about it. that was at about 10am local Loreto time. My other boat was at Pulpito and stayed out on the water. They were close to shore fishing for yellowtail it was a rough three hours back to Loreto. there were a LOT of people caught in that storm yesterday and it being a sunday lots of amateurs with boats that are little used out there.

I do have video of the storm off Loreto and the satellite loops as well that I'm working with. pretty cool stuff.

flyfishinPam - 7-14-2009 at 03:44 AM

WELL its 04:30 tuesday the 14th and we got another major chubasco off Loreto! raining like hell here now with huge lightning bolts over the water.

drzura - 7-14-2009 at 04:17 AM

Wow.. Did that chubasco off Loreto just appear out of nowhere??

fishbuck - 7-14-2009 at 04:23 AM

Ya, that's what Cubascos do! That's why they are so dangerous.
If the pangas had weather radar they could have seen it coming.:?:
But I think the sudden wind is what gets you.

Russ - 7-14-2009 at 05:44 AM

Pam, been watching the light show from down your way this morning just opening eebmike.com and will post the latest from there. 5AM pic

One of eebmike.com most important animations is not working for me this AM. Anyone else?

Raining intermittently over here. Huge dark mass off the coast headed directly here. No lightning yet.

shari - 7-14-2009 at 06:50 AM

Whoa...those suckers come up quick outta nowhere! Please keep us posted east coasters...wonder if it will wander over to our side or just dump it's load on the gulf???? Will keep an eye on it so I can run out and cover up Juan's cement! and do some laundry a la paulina.

Russ - 7-14-2009 at 06:52 AM

Me too. only the B&W available ??
Edit: Here the NOAA shot from 6AM the loop shows the storm weakening here but a small area over the other side increased.

here is my consolidated weather page

http://www.bajabigfish.com/quickweather.html

my eyes have been on this since midnight and again at 0330 we're delaying the departures until about noon or 1300. water smooth but this thing is still forming to the south and the east. very cool light show this morning and did ya catch that red sky in the morning, a real Abundio day from King of the Moon's last scene.

edited my link typo

[Edited on 7-14-2009 by flyfishinPam]

Russ - 7-14-2009 at 07:03 AM

Pam, It's not working for me. I get "The requested URL /quickweather.com was not found on this server." I'm using FireFox

shari - 7-14-2009 at 07:07 AM

we are under clear skies here...a teeny bit of haze and about 8 knots of breeze from the south...not as bad as Russ's image portrays...thank goodness.

David K - 7-14-2009 at 07:08 AM

Pam, your weather link above link has '.com' twice in it: http://www.bajabigfish.com/quickweather.com

Russ - 7-14-2009 at 07:37 AM

eebmike.com is back up. Here's 7AM shot. Kinda shows a small clearing over Concepcion but I think there will be some wind shortly.

Some rain and lots of thunder at 4:30 this morning. Went for a walk west of the highway yesterday, and the green is beginning.

PS: Useful link from Pam. Thanks.

It calmed down for awhile but right now we've got 25+mph wind from the E and skies are clearing and barometer is steady. Weird weather these last few days after some really nice fishable days?? Oh well, don't need the fan;D
