TIJUANA – A 37-year-old U.S. citizen was shot to death Sunday night outside his residence in the suburb of Playas de Tijuana, authorities said
Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Anibal Beltran Jr. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana said.
Beltran was shot about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the Jardines section of Playas, according to the Baja California Attorney General's office. The victim had
stepped outside his residence to check the source of a power outage, and was shot repeatedly with a 9mm weapon. Police found a dozen spent shell
casings nearby.
Family members reached in Chicago and Munster, Ind., declined comment.
