Tourist kidnapped from bar on Revolución

arrowhead - 7-24-2009 at 10:59 AM

Here's the link:
http://rosaritoenlanoticia.blogspot.com/2009/07/secuestran-t...

It says a Danish tourist was kidnapped Wednesday night from the Nelson hotel bar on avenida Revolución. His wife received a ransom demand of $10,000.

When this hits the US papers you can stick a fork in Mexico, it's done as far as tourism goes.

Woooosh - 7-24-2009 at 11:03 AM

..and the bad news just keepis piling up. How do we get La Familia to take over Baja and put a stop to all this? The AFO and El Teo are useless as protectors of the people.

JESSE - 7-24-2009 at 11:12 AM

Theres a lot more to this story than whats being reported. A Danish tourist spending a wednsday night at Hotel Nelson, just steps away from all the drug and hoar houses?

I wouldn't stay at Nelson, and i am from TJ.

From Denmark???

From Disneyland to a county fair. If this ain't slumming I don't know what is.

CaboRon - 7-24-2009 at 01:28 PM

In HS we used to go to the hotel Nelson for the house special .... which was fifty cents .... and the ho's were just three dollars .... ah, the memories of youth :lol:

arrowhead - 7-24-2009 at 02:53 PM

There are some more news articles coming out on the kidnapping now, but they really don't add any new information.

http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/noticias/estatal/2009/07/24/36...

They really just have this totally absurd spin from the local authorities on how safe Baja is. It is so ridiculous, it is an insult to ones intelligence. Here is a prize statement made by a Mexican authority and quoted in the article:

"Baja California es un destino seguro, lo cual ha sido ratificado por el Buró Federal de Investigación estadounidense. "

Baja California is a safe destination, a fact that has been ratified by the US FBI."

And even though there are witnesses to the kidnapping some other putz said that because they cannot verify that a ransom demand was made, they are going to classify the case as a "disappearance", and not a "kidnapping".

Ni modo, bueys.

JESSE - 7-24-2009 at 03:32 PM

Baja norte is not a safe destination, period. No point on wasting time arguing that. But the new info is that ransom was NOT demanded.

Ad that to this odd story.

CaboRon,

Do you remember getting a "Hotel Nelson"decal for your car window by presenting the bartender with ten receipts for their house special drink. I think it was a Zombie.

They officially call it being "temporarily deprived your freedom for the purpose of robbery", not kidnapping.

Orwellian New-speak. Absolute nonsense.

Had a terrifying, humiliating, and very expensive incident with them in May 2007.

You should tell us about it, if you are up to it. Though, frankly, nothing would surprise the board, at this point, in northern Baja.

Might do others and yourself a bit of good.

JESSE - 7-25-2009 at 12:23 PM

Why in the world would you stay in a Hotel in Zona norte?? the most dangerous prositution and drug infested area of Tijuana?

Cypress - 7-25-2009 at 12:23 PM

nancywindpx, Thanks for taking the time to warn others so that they can avoid that little slime pit.:O

RD55 - 7-25-2009 at 12:51 PM

Missing Dane is now in the U.S. according to AFN Tijuana article.

http://afntijuana.info/blog/?p=14065

La PGJE tampoco confirmó la privación ilegal de la libertad únicamente informó que el extranjero ya se encontraba en territorio estadounidense.

Nor did the Baja California State Department of Justice confirm about the (kidnapping); they only informed that the foreigner is now to be found in the United States.

That is NOT what that article says. It says no information was given on what happened.

JESSE - 7-25-2009 at 02:53 PM

I went to school with many friends who work in high positions on Baja norte law enforcement, many old time nomads from the amigo boards know this very well.

I don´t get my news from Bajanorte from newspapers.

The Gull - 7-25-2009 at 03:04 PM

Jesse,

If you or any other Nomad were as smart as Cabron or Whiish, you would probably "know all".

I choose (and would encourage other Nomads) to stay ignorant, if they are the standard.

The Gull - 7-25-2009 at 06:53 PM

First trip to Tijuana, so bringing $9500 in a bag was a good idea.

Maybe I should not tell the rest of the scary cops story cuz I don't want judgemental, know it all jerks to jump all over me like vultures. :(

That is a blood sport here Nancy. Spill away at your own risk. It is entertaining!

Sorry, Nancy. I figured there was no story that would surprise us.

I hadnt counted on the reaction by Nomads. Always a surprise there.

You guys didn't even hear half of it. But oh well.

Thanks

I've been exhausted lately so am pretty thin skinned lately. I have always hated it when I'm the object of ridicule. I don't do it to others and I live by the golden rule.

As for my saying I had not known TJ was dangerous, I chose my words poorly. I meant I had not realized TJ was AS dangerous as it was. All large cities can have some danger but TJ is pretty bad. However, imo, the press is still over sensationalizing/exaggerating the danger to Americans. I've always been pretty brave and street wise. I live in a neighborhood many ppl are scared to death of, but I'm not. It's called felony flats. It reminds me a lot of zona norte. So I'm not scared of zona norte, just the cops.

And not the same person that told you the military was swarming the hills of rosarito and had all but clodsed in El Teo. He disappeard into the wine country I guess. That was five dead cops ago. I do agree with Jesse that you learn little truth from the TJ press.

No mention of this kidnapping or the three Rosarito strong armed paramilitray-type robberies (ricky's, La estancia and one other) of patrons at all in the Union Trib. The UT beat lady- Ms. Sandra Dibble would report all of those if she had any access to the facts. She doesn;t do half-researched stories.

Of course Calderon went to the Torres wedding in TJ and the wedding reception in Ensenada yesterday - so maybe it was not to embarass him further.

In todays editorial there is a letter from the Mayor of TJ on one side and a column from Navarette on the other side- you wouldn't even know they were talking about the same country. The mayor says they are enduinrg a perfect storm (narco vioence, world econmy, long border waits and swine flu)- the columinst says the people have voted- they accepted Calderons defeat and wan't to go back to the PRI for protection from the violence. I'd say there is another storm brewing...

[Edited on 7-26-2009 by Woooosh]

nancywinpdx - 7-26-2009 at 07:04 PM

I am skeptical that the kidnapping even happened since there's no mention of it on the internet. I hope it was a hoax or a mixup.

I truly hope Calderon will not be defeated but he probably will be. :(

But then, that wedding was LAST weekend, not "yesterday"; so now we have to doubt the rest of the story.

This "tourist" is not telling everything. First of all he should explain what he was doing in a well known drug-criminal Hotel just footsteps from the worst area of the city. I doubt he was vacationing. You only go there for drugs, prostitutes, or other more hardcore stuff.

There isnt a lot on info since the guy is not telling much, but my guess is that he was doing something illegal, and someone noticed. Kidnappers don´t go for tourists, first of all, they know its a lot of heat, second they don´t know if they actually have money, and third, why get a hot potato like that when theres plenty of local victims with proven networth and without the complications of an international incident.

Me thinks a drug deal gone bad, or he was doing sexual thinks beyond whats normal and someone found out.

You do realize Pres Regan gave Iraq a chemical weapon plant during his administration? The weapons were shipped to Northern Syria, before the war.
