>And you can help.

>In order to let you know how and in what way, I
>am meeting with the family as soon as possible.
>I would welcome anyones attendance and will let
>you know when it is scheduled.
>
>Monitary donations may be one of the first
>necessities, as they, more than we, know what is

Maria is my hairdresser,

Keri - 8-13-2009 at 10:47 AM

What can I do to help. Please help if you can . This lady defiantly has the "nomad spirit " she spends more than half of her time making sure the people that have not are taken care of., food haircuts ,trips to the Dr anything she can do to make someones life a little better, all given from her heart. Now its our turn to help her. She will need furniture, beds, blankets, clothes adult and children' s. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated. This is the time of the year she does back packs and school supplies for children that can't afford new school supplies. Anyone wanting to donate anything can use Pyramid Resort for a drop off point .I will be glad to collect and deliver anything to her. Please Keith let me know what I can do to help,k

PS Just talked to Mrs No problemo. She said a friend had come by and said that Maria was most devastated that the 2 children lost all of their toys and computer . Please if you can donate toys for a boy 6 and a girl 9 . Thanks so much,k

BajaNuts - 8-13-2009 at 11:46 AM

I would like to pay for 10 back packs and school supplies for the community kids if someone in Tijuana or Ensenada can buy them, put them together and get them to Pyramid Resort. I'm thinking Wal-Mart or similar store. Have to figure out how to get the money to you, anyone willing to coordinate with me for this?

Don't know how many community children would need supplies, if someone can give me a guess, perhaps a couple of us northern people can pay for supplies if someone south can put them together.

Jump in if we can work something out.

Or if there is a fund set up like the one Baja Cactus did, that would be the easiest.

TheColoradoDude - 8-13-2009 at 12:01 PM

Maybe we can set up a donation via pay pal?

cathart - 8-13-2009 at 12:22 PM

Thank you so much for your generous help, Keri! I told D.J. last night, when she arrived at my house in tears over this, that we would all pull together and help Maria. We all love her, and you know our community here does come together when needed to support those we love. Maria has always been such an important link between our American community and those in the Mexican community too! And she never thinks of herself first, but is always there for others--so let's get to it!

I have given your contact information to D.J., and Keith will send out another email to everyone with that information as well, if that is okay.

Does anyone know how to set up a paypal acct to accept donations

Keri - 8-13-2009 at 01:26 PM

I don't know how. Help please,k

PS. Thanks mucho Bajanuts. That was the other thing she was worried about. The back packs for the school kids. k

[Edited on 8-13-2009 by Keri]

TheColoradoDude - 8-13-2009 at 01:58 PM

Well paypal works fairly simple. Money is paid to an email address. That email address/person would have to have a US bank account. Then funds can be submitted to that email address and be transferred electronically.

TheColoradoDude - 8-13-2009 at 02:00 PM

Say for instance, everyone could send money to a fellow nomad via paypal. Then that nomad could hand deliver cash to Maria and Polo. A nomad in the same area would be ideal.

You'll have to set it up via a US URL. If you're in Mexico and attempt to establish a PAYPAL account while communicating over a Mexican URL, you will be rejected.

vgabndo - 8-14-2009 at 01:38 PM

As this mission of service develops, if anyone is passing thru' Mt. Shasta on their way south and can take a box of household goods, please let me know and I will have it ready to pick up. Perry

Keri and BajaNuts

Baja Bernie - 8-14-2009 at 09:20 PM

Bernie here. Long time no talk-but this seems to be as good a time as any to start again. Keri got ahold of Jaime and I and told us what was going on in La Mision. As a result of our conversation we have purchased 10 backpacks and what we consider a modest amount of school supplies to fill each one. jaime has also put together several boxes of towels, sheets, pots and pans, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, brushes, hand towels, blankets, and KIDS TOYS: dolls, matchbox cars, etc. We realize that our efforts will only go a small way toward replacing those things lost in the fire.
We will be contacting BajaNuts about the school supplies, and I have committed a sum of money to help tide the folks over. We should all realize that this is not just one of those "oh here, make me feel better" things, but rather a long term committment to help this lady who has been an angel in helping others for years. Jaime is already looking forward to Christmas and all that it will entail in this effort. Lets all get together behind this wonderful lady.

DENNIS - 8-14-2009 at 09:23 PM

What a pleasure it is to see you, Bernie.

fishbuck - 8-14-2009 at 09:27 PM

Don't know the family but they certainly seem to be highly reguarded by people I do know.
Definately seems like a genuinely worthy cause.

noproblemo2 - 8-14-2009 at 10:57 PM

Bernie I can't thank you enough.... This family is honestly the most deserving I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Again THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who is embracing them... S

Baja Bernie - 8-16-2009 at 09:32 PM

You gals are making me appreciate, again, what it takes to be a true Baja Lover...Like I always say...People helping People and you gals are sure pulling out the plug in your efforts...

Baja Nuts is sending me a Money Order for $175 to help with the school supplies and when I get it I will make sure it gets to Keri...Hey K got a car load of stuff and have hit the ATM so we will see you Monday morning...Hear the Mexican Government has replaced all of the Customs guys on the border with the Army...not really looking forward to visiting these guys on their first day on the Border...

OH! Well Baja is always thinking up things to keep us from getting bored.

Keri, I understand that you are doing a Pot Luck and some other stuff to help this Angel...why don't you share your plans with the folks.

Baja Nuts...sure hope Jaime and I get a chance to meet you and yours one day.

Almost forgot...Dennis--us mossy backs gotta think of each other...Cabo Magic...this is a little like when you, I, and many others chipped in and helped a while back in Mulege...

Vgabndo...hey guy I guess a lot of the new folks don't even know you contributed a chapter to my last book on Baja...Think of so many of you so very often and with a smile on my face.

Hey Keith,

Kathleen told me about this on Friday. Very sad. I know we have a computer that we could donate to the family along with a variety of household items for when they are able to rebuild. I also have some toys and stuffed animals from when I was a kid that I would happily give to them.

CaboMagic - 8-17-2009 at 04:56 PM

Bernie no one says it better! Happy you and Jamie live + love + give ... nomads did and do come together and extend helping hand when natural disasters hit .. a tough time for those in it, but a time for others do what they are able to ..

Keri - did you get that sorted? Call anytime - happy to do what I can to assist you ...

I forgot yesterday to put this up. Besides being our hairstylist Maria's other livelihood was sewing or repairing things for the local valley and her family. Her serger and sewing machine were burnt in the fire. If anyone has a spare sitting around not being used this would be a great time to give it a new home. Thanks for caring,k

BajaNuts - 8-19-2009 at 12:25 PM

I have a Serger I've never used. My mom gave it to me when she bought a new machine, it's maybe 12-13 years old but it's like new. 4 bobbins, instruction book in English.

If you think this will work for Maria, she can have it. Will she be able to use it right away? Maybe at someone else's house? Or should we wait until they have a place to set it up?

I can ship to a US address.

BajaNuts, You are an angel

Keri - 8-19-2009 at 03:52 PM

I will talk to Maria and let her know we have it and what should we do with it. her sister lives in the states I'm sure we can send it there and she can bring it across. Thank you Thank you Thank you,k:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce
PS I will tell her at the Fundraiser . It will be a great surprise::yes:

Hi, yes Maria is not only an angel of mercy to all in the greater community, but has saved countless dogs, cats and other animals who have been heartlessly dropped off in the Canyon. BTW: The area to the locals and the bus stop is known as El Junco. Dick Holme
