Anyone watch 48 Hours last night? It was all on the kidnapping of the Hall family back in November '07. They are so lucky to be alive. What a
harrowing experience for these people. Don't mean to rehash what's been on this board before, but actually seeing the victims and hearing the story
from their own mouths was chilling. In spite of it all, they still had wonderful things to say about their past experiences in Mexico.......so

That was the mistake they made--- DO NOT DRIVE TO THE BORDER AT NIGHT.
I saw this story this morning on 48hrs this morning and they really are lucky to be alive. When I hear people say "This could have happened in the
US", I really doubt it. Traveling on a major Mexican highway and being pulled over by by red lights and thinking it's the authorities and I better
pull over and have this happen. Anything is possible and it could have very well been the police but they did the right thing and pulled over.
I travel that road many times a month and never see the Mexican highway patrol except at the last toll gate in Ensenada where they shakedown all the
second hand store owners for their mordida. Next time you go through the last toll on a Wednesday you will see the highway patrol there because thats

We all have to be smart. The driving rules of Mexico are Never drive at night and if you have to never travel alone. They knew that and that is why
they had a hotel booked.
My wife pointed out after watching it that they continued to send their daughter to school after two students were killed there.
I think it just shows how bad things can happen anywhere at anytime. I feel very bad for them and pray that it never happens to me but I will continue
to travel in Baja and mainland mexico. Just like I drive down I-15
This also happened two years ago and I think the mexican officials are working hard to keep it form happening.

I saw it. I don't think they wanted to drive to the border at night. Their hotel room in San Quintin was not there and then Mr Hall made the fateful
decision to drive back at night to the border. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It could have happened to anyone.
I have driven back to the border at night when I used to go to Baja more frequently, but I don't think I would drive the gauntlet again at night from
Ensenada.
The thing that keeps eating away at me is this...I know bad things can and do happen to people on our side of the border, but when something like this
happens in Mexico, the system is so corrupt that you really have no recourse as a crime victim. At least here, you have a reasonable chance of
getting justice from a system that is not 100% corrupt like in Mexico.

Wow, I just watched it in it's entirety. I remember that incident well. I thought the trailer they were towing belonged to the McMillin Off Road
family and that the Hall family had borrowed it and that is why the thieves thought there was a buggy inside of it. I remember reading this on

I don't think it was a case of "wrong place/wrong time." The perpetrators kept asking them "where's the race car." They were after something they
thought the family had. And what is also startling, is that once they were free to find their way home, they approached a house with its lights on,
around 3 am, and got shot at!! Thank God for the woman, Maria, who let them in her home and who arranged for their safe transport to the border. She

me either. They basically tell you "you got what you deserved for going down there". From their perspective- they see people "limp" back across the
