All the best wishes to you Sirena and Adrian on the upcoming birth of your baby!
We are so happy for you!
It's an exciting time, we know you will be wonderful parents. And all our love and happiness to Shari, Juan, and Adrian's family too.
Thrilled to now sign off as

shari - 5-14-2010 at 07:59 AM

Gracias Nan & D

We are proud and exited to announce the forming of a new little soul in baja. While we wanted to wait a bit longer to let you all know...well...the proverbial cat is out of the costal.

While this new baby was not planned, it is welcome and we look forward to having a little tyke around the camp. Wooo hooo I'm gonna be an abuelita!!!

the cosmic thing is that this insistent soul wangled it's way into our family in the very same spot where I got pregnant in Ojo de Liebre whale lagoon during mating season!!! bizarre and wonderful....the spirit of the whale lives on.

Sirenita is doing very well, eating like crazy sporting a cute little bump. She and her partner Adrian are back living in Asuncion and will continure their studies in the future.

In the meantime, we are planning a fun project for them to work on this summer(to be announced later). It is awesome to have them here to help us out on our various projects...Juan has Adrian on the rockpile and he is a fantastic cook so we are all eating very well.

Baby is due right in the middle of tuna season which will be a challenge...mid november...what a year this will be!

Sirena has been such a blessing in my life and her baby will be another. Felicidades my darling.

SiReNiTa - 5-14-2010 at 09:32 AM

=D
Thanks to all for the congratulations, it truly is a blessing to have such good friends and a supportive family. It means the world to us to be able to share this happy time in our lives with all you special nomads and I sure do hope you can all get down sometime to meet the new arrival!
As my mom said, it was not planned, but in my opinion, being a mother is the biggest and most special honor and gift that God could give me and both Adrian and I are enjoying every minute of the count down, working hard so the baby will have the best and be a happy little one.
A big special thanks to all of our friends who have been very supportive and have had some great advice.
And...a big sloppy kiss and a bear hug to nan & D who have always been there for us and whom we hold very near to our heart.

Love you guys!!!

Congratulations to Sirenita and Adrian. May you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

And kudos to our almost-abuelita shari. You're gonna have such fun!

zforbes - 5-14-2010 at 09:44 AM

So next year, Sirena, we'll expect you at the Mother's Day celebration, no? From what I can see, Bahia Asuncion moms rock -- you sure do! And Shari, someone will need to do crowd control as we all flock to see the newborn and family. I know you will be a super grandma, just like you are as a mom. Congratulations to Papa Adrian, the best chef in the village and proud papa-to-be. Juan, I can see you now with your great smile and sparkling eyes as you take your turn at baby holding. I bet you'll have that baby out fishing in no time. I'm glad to have a ring-side seat!

Iflyfish - 5-14-2010 at 09:50 AM

What an adventure you have begun. You will make a great mom and that you and that kid will be lucky to be around such a wonderful community, rare now-a-days! S/he will have nature built in the same way you and your mom do! Lucky kid.

Mrsfish and I hope to see you around the time of the birth of your first! Woopie!!

SiReNiTa - 5-14-2010 at 10:08 AM

Yes I agree that there is no where else better for us to raise our baby, we had thought of other options but I knew I could never spend such an important time of my life away from the place and people I love.

24baja - 5-14-2010 at 10:16 AM

Congratulation's, and I agree with you and to this day call my sons my most precious gift from God, they are 27 & 29. When my youngest son got married I ask his wife to take care of my most precious gift from God and she replied that he is also her gift from God so therefore she is honored to do so! Wow, she knows how to get to here mother-in-law!

Blessings to all of your families on this joyous occasion. Connie

Shari & Sirena (and Adrian and Juan too), Shelley and I were wondering when the gato would escape the bolsa and now that the news is out, a huge congratulations and much love sent your way! Shelley still wants to arrange a marriage if it's a girl to our upcoming grandson!

tiotomasbcs - 5-14-2010 at 02:23 PM

I wondered about lack of news re new apartment in La Paz or the Video/film thing requests. Suddenly Serenita is in the BA posts & photos?! Felicidades. Beware of snoopy Nomads. Does that make the kid a Mexicanadian? Hapa Haole? !00% Mexicano. now back to your scheduled program. Tio

Many Wishes for Years of Happiness

Dear Sirena and Adrian, your new soul picked the most beautiful and loving family ever.

Sincerely, Gypsy Jan

mulegemichael - 5-14-2010 at 08:25 PM

now as a brand new grandpa of twins, i have to ask,"is this gonna affect my tuna fishing at the beach house??"...will it become a nursery?...what can we bring down?..etc.

SiReNiTa - 5-15-2010 at 08:27 AM

hehe no affecting fishing, mom's hoping that in a few years the baby will be able to take people out on charters as well...hmpf we'll see about that!

Bob H - 5-15-2010 at 09:43 AM

Congratulations to Sirena and Adrian on the upcoming birth of your baby!

A baby brings worlds of joy
By merely being there.
Within the shelter of your arms,
The comfort of your care,
And may this joy be just a hint
Of happy years to be
Not only for you & Baby
But for all the family

Now we have to think of names...
Bob H

SiReNiTa - 5-15-2010 at 10:28 AM

UGH names...that's the hardest part so far!!
we've thought of a few but deciding on one that we (adrian, mom and I) all like is a huge challenge!
I guess when the time is right it'll come to us.

JaraHurd - 5-16-2010 at 08:34 AM

I echo the sentiments of all the posts here. Your child will be a lucky one to have you as a mother Sirena!! J

SiReNiTa - 5-16-2010 at 08:56 AM

Thanks again for all of your great comments everyone, it makes all the difference in the world to have such great people surrounding us in this happy time.

As for certain comments regarding our decisions, I'll only say that the best is not always the obvious.

David K - 5-16-2010 at 10:23 AM

Sirenita is one of the MOST mature and intelligent Nomads on this forum. Whatever she decides will be far and away better than what any non-family member, behind a keyboard, can post here for a moment of drama.

shari - 5-16-2010 at 11:09 AM

each of us has our own ways of being "wed".... and as usual Sirenita and Adrian are making responsible decisions...for them by them.

SiReNiTa - 5-16-2010 at 11:32 AM

Thanks David, 24baja and Barry.
At first I was offended, but then why be offended by someone who has no insight what so ever on our lives. Each parent makes decisions for their children and for themselves in the way they see fit, if kat has a problem with unwed parents then that is very much up to him/her, to each their own opinion.

If I felt a need to justify our decision I would, but since as I said before, most of the people who we know and care about know enough about us that they know we are making the best decisions for ourselves.

We are put in this world to enjoy the gift of life, not to please others, so this is me and my family enjoying just one of the many gifts that have been bestowed upon us in our very OWN way.

irenemm - 5-16-2010 at 01:26 PM

The only words of important right now is that Sirenita and the baby stay healty. That is of the only importance.
that they both are safe and healty
good luck to you Sirenita Y Adrian.-
And grandma you will love the frosting on the cake.
Nothing better.

Mulegena - 5-16-2010 at 02:46 PM

Oh, yes we can now officially say, Hooray!! (I've known for a few weeks now, hehehe!)

We all wish our Asuncion Family felicidades.
Serenita and Adrian are having a wonderful little Delfin(-a/-o)!!

I'm ready to do some diaper duty. Bring 'em on!

with so much love, Auntie Mulegena

shari - 5-16-2010 at 03:07 PM

You're on Auntie...
Diapering has been a big topic in our casa these days. Being the eco-abuelita, I think I have convinced Sirena to use cloth diapers....she was a cloth diaper baby and I didnt have a washing machine either in canada on our visit there or in baja...had to trudge through snow to the creek, then chip the ice to fetch water for the bucket to wash her diapers in....much easier in baja where she could run around the beach diaper free.

They now make some prettyy cool cloth diaper systems which beats those pins. I hope setting this example might inspire other mexican moms to do the same...I have never seen them here...might turn out to be one of my new causes...along with used clothes...bring cloth diapers to distrubute to new moms. I bet once they see how great they are, some would switch to cloth.

Paula - 5-16-2010 at 03:17 PM

Much happiness to you, Sirena and Adrian!!!!!!!!

And good idea about the diapers, Shari. When we finally ever get to Asuncion, I'll have to tell you my Montana frozen diaper story.

comitan - 5-16-2010 at 03:25 PM

What a great idea, those throw aways are everywhere.:bounce::bounce:

SiReNiTa - 5-16-2010 at 03:38 PM

Yep I'm officially convinced about cloth diapers, I mean...I'll be seeing the same crap (literally) with either kind so we might as well use cloth for a happier baby and of course less landfill! Chipping in to saving the world while changing diapers seems like a good way to do it!

And paula I'm dying to hear your story!!

24baja - 5-16-2010 at 03:44 PM

Saving the world one diaper at a time.....I love it!:tumble:

Hook - 5-16-2010 at 06:25 PM

I guess I got jettisoned with the rest of the flotsam, huh?

Or was my post considered flotsam, too? Not intended, that's for sure. I saw a lack of tact and decided to out it.

Besides, the silence was deafening.................

SiReNiTa - 5-16-2010 at 06:37 PM

No worries hook!
Thanks to all you guys for your support!

noproblemo2 - 5-16-2010 at 06:42 PM

Guess I got a tad p****d when someone said things that should not have been said as well, and went off on the person, this is a time for celebration only. Many happy memories to the new Mom and Dad to be..... That is going to be one very lucky little one with all of us extra aunts and uncles here looking out for him.:yes:

I will follow suit as apologize for my comments as well. I wish Mom & Dad all of the luck in the world and think that they are so lucky to have such good family and friends to support them.

I apologize to KAT for voicing my opinion and for stating my offense to his/her comment.

SiReNiTa - 5-24-2010 at 11:19 AM

I have decided to keep everyone updated on the baby growth since Bajaboy just gave us a pretty cool "what to expect" journal to keep track of the pregnancy.
So I get new info every week of what the baby is doing and what's growing, etc etc...I find it all fascinating and I hope you do as well!!

Here is what is said for week 16, which just started today apparently!!

Your Baby in Week 16 of Pregnancy
Your baby now weighs in at a whopping three to five ounces, and he's four to five inches in length. The bones that are now in place in his ears means he can probably hear your voice as you talk to your partner and pals and sing in the car. While he’s getting used to your voice, the tiny muscles in his body, especially the ones in his back, are gaining strength, so he can straighten out a little more. And thanks to his developing facial muscles, your baby is capable of making a few expressive frowns and squints, even at this early stage. (Don’t worry, those frowns have nothing to do with the sound of your voice!) And his eyes are finally working, making small side-to-side movements and perceiving light (although the eyelids are still sealed). Peekaboo!

Weee this makes me super excited because the baby can now hear the pretty ocean sounds and when I play guitar and sing to him/her.

Lab tests coming up day after tomorrow and after that there will be ultrasound pictures to look at!!!! Can't wait!

Many thanks to Bajaboy for this gift, it has really maximized the experience because it's loaded with info!!!

much love

xoxo

Bajaboy - 5-24-2010 at 11:33 AM

Sirena,

I know Tracy and I really enjoyed that book so it was our pleasure. Enjoy each day...three weeks for us and counting until our Baby "Gertrudis" arrives. Can't wait for the kids to play together.

Can't wait to meet little "gertrudis"! Hope all goes well and we get to see the whole gang very very soon!!

Congratulations Sirena, Adrian, Shari and Juan!! See what happens when you go offline for a while?! We are very excited for all of you...hooray for babies! I am also pleased to see that your mom has convinced you of the benefits of cloth diapering...we are a modern cloth diapering family, and would never go back to the disposables..ick!! There are so many fun options out there! We would be more than happy to bring some out to you! Let me know if you have any questions about them, and I'd be happy to help out. Here's to a wonderful pregnancy :)

BajaBlanca - 5-25-2010 at 07:29 PM

I used cloth diapers too, beaucoup years ago .... they make some that are soooo soooo soft. congrats on the decision, in my case my son was alergic to disposable diapers. after about 5 min in them, he was popcorned with red pox. poor baby !!! couldnt even wear them the 20 min it took us to get him to the pediatrician for checkups :tumble:

SiReNiTa - 5-25-2010 at 07:38 PM

Thanks everyone!! Let's see what fun stuff comes up on the name thread :tumble::tumble::tumble:

SiReNiTa - 6-4-2010 at 11:56 AM

As promised here is the latest update!

Went for my second doctors appointment yesterday.
I was expecting to get my lab tests and the ultrasound date and no more but the doc surprised me by sitting me on the table and taking out a little microphone thingy, and asked me if I wanted to hear the babies heart beat...Of course I jumped at the chance (I didn't think I'd get to hear it until the ultrasound), so after moving the microphone around a while he found the little one lurking to the right side of my lower tummy and I could immediately hear the "galump galump galump" of the baby's heart! As soon as I heard it the world sort of stopped and I couldn't stop smiling, I guess my mouth sort of was hanging open because the doctor started laughing

He then told me that the baby had a healthy 153 beats per minute, and it seemed as though everything was going great!
I was still in a daze (which may be the reason why the two vaccines I got didn't hurt very much), as the nurses at the hospital crowded around my belly to touch and coo at it, it was a little awkward since they were holding needles and smelled like medicine (bleh)!

I was told that my tests came back with a little bit of anemia, so the doc gave me more vitamins and sent me on my way...
Poor Adrian was waiting in the car and didn't get to see or hear all the exciting stuff because I told him to wait since it was only going to take a few minutes to get the tests and I'd be done!
Oopsies!!!

Anyway, we have the ultrasound scheduled for the 10th of this month and I'm anxiously counting the days!

Mom felt the baby move for the first time (for her) last sunday, and he/she has been going none stop every time I sit down or lay down!

So hopefully we'll have more to share by next week!!

Hugs!!!

shari - 6-4-2010 at 12:05 PM

so far so good...I'm relieved they only heard one heartbeat!!!! cant wait to see that little bugger on the screen next week!

noproblemo2 - 6-4-2010 at 01:18 PM

GREAT News!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So very excited for you and Adrian, bet he won't sit outside anymore when you go in...

SiReNiTa - 6-4-2010 at 01:25 PM

Nope I bet not! Poor guy I felt so bad!!
He was a good sport though and tried not to make me feel too guilty by saying " I'll just hear it next week, don't worry"

Iflyfish - 6-4-2010 at 01:54 PM

Good one!!

BajaBlanca - 6-4-2010 at 02:46 PM

you are right shari - coulda been 2 heartbeats cause sirenita ... you are BIG !!!! sounds like you are feeling A-OK :))))))))))))

SiReNiTa - 6-4-2010 at 02:55 PM

I'm feeling great! Especially munching on the apple sauce cinnamon buns that Adrian and I just made! Yum Yum!!!

And I'm not THAT big...jeez give a girl some slack!!!!

Nan&D - 6-4-2010 at 05:31 PM

I'm not used to the words "big" and "Sirena" being used together!

Tiomiguel - 6-4-2010 at 05:52 PM

Sirena and Adrian are gonna rock as parents for sure, and as for Grandma, I think she will be pretty good at it too.
Time to start eating healthy and not with cinabuns. I know you can do it. Look forward to seeing you really big when we come in early November.
Congratulations from everyone here.

noproblemo2 - 6-4-2010 at 06:00 PM

Well they did have apple sauce/cinnamon in em, that's healthy....

Let the girl eat!

Sirena, we are very excited for you and Adrian. I hope that your pregnancy continues to be healthy and fun. Enjoy the changes in your body and don't worry about anything. Staying calm, content, and in touch with your body and your little one growing inside ~ these are the important things. And make sure you let Adrian come to the appointments!!! I know a lot of women who would kill for a man that actually wants to go! I'm sure he will be touched by the sounds of life, as well.

Take care! See you guys in August! Bajafam :)

You're Beautiful Sirena!
It's fun to hear, and now see how you and the baby are doing. And Em and Micah are happy that I'm getting my baby jollies with you too!

SiReNiTa - 6-5-2010 at 09:07 AM

Yeesh! Everything I bake is whole wheat, I'm eating more veggies than ever (I actually ate a chard stirfry the other day :o) and almost no junk food! Herb teas, no caffeine, no alcohol, etc etc...I'm pretty proud of myself for giving my diet a makeover!

Thank's Nan!! I didn't think the photo would make the web THAT soon! She only took it last night (sigh) but I'm glad it did because I haven't really taken a good look, ok ok you guys were right I guess I am pretty big

This morning we finally agreed on names (Adrian and I).
Since I have been laughing loads lately, and as far back in the pregnancy as I can remember, we decided to name him (if it's a boy) Isaak, which means the laughing one, since from what I've heard, mom's feel what the baby is feeling and most of the time I feel happy and giddy, so I thought it would be fitting (unless the baby comes out a total sour puss which, with a family like this one is highly unlikely).

And if it's a girl, as Adrian had called claims on the name and I happen to really like the name he wants, we decided on Lyla, which means dark haired beauty (Adrian has dark hair so it kind of fits).

So...that's a huge load off my chest, now I can start knitting little booties and hats!! Yipeeee!!!

David K - 6-5-2010 at 09:48 AM

Wonderful... super dooper!!:bounce:

Great names... :light:

Lauriboats - 6-5-2010 at 10:03 AM

Iflyfish - 6-5-2010 at 10:07 AM

I just showed your pic to Diane, her response "Gorgeous" and that about says it all.

You look like you are in great shape and your diet sounds wonderful. Good choices, you are already a good parent.

I can't wait to meet him/her!!!!

Nor can many of us, even if for some will only be through pictures for a while, such a pleasant way for us all to share in your joy!

Oh my my tummy sure looks BIG....hmm I'll have to remember not to laugh out loud so much when I have company...

Well we did the pendulum test and the ring went both in circles AND in a straight line so I'm not sure what that means...

Lyla I guess the closest I can write to it's pronunciation would be Laila

SiReNita,

Lots of peoples pendulums swing both ways, not to worry, there is room for everyone in this world. ;)

Baja Nomad Stork Express Pickup

Hi Nomads,

I’m going to be in the San Diego area from 6/18-23, and I’d like to pick up baby gifts for Sirena and Adrian while I am there, to bring back to Asuncion. If you plan to order something from Sirena's baby registry at Target, go to Target.com, click on Registries at the top of the page, then enter Sirena Bondy in the baby registry option. This will bring you to the list of things that Sirena needs for the baby. Most items ship within a couple of days if they are in stock. When you check out, the place where the gifts will be sent is displayed (Sirena’s godmother).

With a truck full of new baby items, I might end up paying duty at the border. (I’m bringing a lot of empty suitcases along to disguise as much as I can.) With that in mind, please don’t order the gifts to be wrapped, since they will need to be opened for inspection. Also, when you are checking out, please UNcheck the box that asks if you want the packing slip not to show the price. It will be a lot quicker at the border if I have receipts with prices available. The stork brigade in Asuncion will wrap the gifts and tag them with the name(s) of the donors. If the duty is large, I’ll ask the gift givers to cover a portion equal to the percent of their gift compared to the total cost, payable to Shari through PayPal. Does that seem fair?

I have a small Toyota pickup and locking camper shell. There are a couple of bulky items already ordered, a crib and mattress, but I’ll pack in as much else as I can. If you have questions, please u2u me, or find me on Facebook under Zoe Forbes. Remember though, that Sirena has access to my Facebook postings, so it would be better to email me privately if you want things to be a secret.

Thank you from Stork Assistant Forbes.

LOVE IT...the Stork Express...tia zoe, you are a blessing. Good thing here in mexico there are comadres and compadres for everything!! We are planning a baby shower for after the stork assistant returns...july something and will have a virtual shower in the chat room here live on Nomads too the night before...thanks so much for sharing in this wonderous time of our lives...i believe this will be a first birth covered by nomads!!

SiReNiTa - 6-6-2010 at 02:10 PM

Hmm does this mean I should stop reading this thread??? So you guys can plan away??
Hehe
Zoe thanks so much, you have been a true blessing to our family, not only now but ever since we first met you you have enriched our lives so so so much and I'm very grateful for that!

As have all the other nomads who we have met both online and in person, I've been getting great tips and words of advice from many and I honestly think I'll be able to do my new exciting job much better because of all of the info!

I've started knitting a baby quilt and as soon as I get good enough at knitting that I can put letters in stuff I'd like to add names from nomad so that the baby will always have all of you wonderful people close to his/her heart.

After I get better I'll make another one with special messages from special people (I'll let everyone know when that will be) so that he/she can read them when ready.
I know it makes all the difference to have trinkets to remember things by and I'm starting these little projects now so that I can finish in time!

According to the whattoexpect.com website, our little ball of pudding is about the size of a cantaloupe this week and the reproductive body parts are now formed and moving in to place, which means we will almost certainly be able to tell what we are expecting when we get the ultrasound.

Eek this is so exciting!!

SiReNiTa - 6-11-2010 at 01:55 PM

It's a BOY!!!!!
A very healthy and fast growing boy!
Wow...seeing him for the first time was pretty amazing even if the picture was a bit...ok a lot blurry!
Woohoooo

Oh...and apparently we were off on the due date by about 4 weeks, which puts me in the hospital anywhere from september 7th to the 27th.
We get to welcome the new addition even sooner than we thought!!

Natalie Ann - 6-11-2010 at 02:05 PM

A boy - that's cool, Sirena. Boys are interesting and fun and... puppy dog tails.;D:tumble:

About the new date.... that would 'splain why you're so 'big' now, wouldn't it?!

Enjoy your pregnancy.

I counted 10 (fetal movements) in less than a minute a while ago when I was laying down...We will have our hands full for sure!
