In Guerrero Negro they bus all the school kids to these burnings...and serve them lunch too...I couldnt believe it when Sirena came home from primary school one day and told me where they had been all day...what a cool field trip eh!!!

doradodan - 6-22-2010 at 04:01 PM

I couldn't stop laughing, that was so funny. Is it real? The you tube video.

I seriously doubt it. Most Mexican weed that is grown these days is of very poor quality, and seeded. Yuk.

And isn't a "contact high" when you get around some friends who are totally ripped and you find yourself grinning and laughing and feeling like you smoked the same fine reefer that they did? ;D

DavidT - 6-22-2010 at 07:36 PM

With all that smoke in the air I bet there was no tern left unstoned.

Hook - 6-22-2010 at 09:06 PM

Speaking of which, maybe this was where The Gull is.

LOL:light:, Good play on words

Packoderm - 6-23-2010 at 05:30 AM

That looks like a lot of weed. Perhaps now they will finally have a handle on the problem. Anyway, will Mexico legalize it if the U.S. does?

Martyman - 6-23-2010 at 08:07 AM

Mexico did legalize it. Very small quantities only though.

wessongroup - 6-23-2010 at 08:20 AM

Just sad, as across the border they sell it legally in California .... and the last time I checked it goes for around $60 1/8 oz .... so Mexico, if they had been allow to import that 45 tons ... lets see.. 45 * 2200= 99,000 pounds.. * 16 oz/lb 1,584,000 oz * 8= 12,672,000 * $60/ 1/8 = $101,376,000.. thats retail, but would appear to be a substanial sum even at the wholesale level.. at least as much as what they get on many other imports ....

But, then if it were legalized the price would go to hell... gee, now what do you think that means... :):)

And not sure I would like my face up on that one.... some brave guys out there... must say

It may look like a lot of weed, but that's only a drop in the bucket. I've been involved in many weed burnings during my younger days, in Florida, working for the Dept of Justice (DEA). As for the smell, well, they usually soak it all with kerosene and it goes up quickly. The smell is putrid (sp?). We've also used large incenerators to get rid of the bulk, saving a few bales and pictures for evidence. We would caravan it all in rental trucks with highway partol along side. Had to watch the temp workers real close! Sometimes seeing them stuffing some of it in their pockets as they load it all. Most of the stuff we got came off of tankers snagged by the Coast Guard. (Mother ships). 200 tons was common back then.

Well of course they served them lunch. Could you imagine riding in a bus with a bunch of school kids that have the munchies?

With proper tending, a fire like that can be kept going for days.

Bwana_John - 6-24-2010 at 02:32 PM

Mexican Army Dope Burning PR Op's:

Rule #1 - Always give the Squad Automatic Weapon to the dude on the upwind post!

Rule #2 - The downwind dude may only have a radio (good for laughs).

In the old days, folks worried about someone "Bogarting" the inflammable material....and not for fear of the "fire" going out:lol:

That You-tube vid is a hoax.....it portrays a "Reefer Madness" perception of marijuana intoxication:rolleyes:

That much heavy inhalation would likely render a person 'overloaded" .....Chinese-eyed, absent, and looking for a couch and Doritos.

....at least that what folks who have inhaled have told me....;D

wessongroup - 6-24-2010 at 05:27 PM

good to see you still kicking .... :):)

KAT54 - 6-24-2010 at 05:36 PM

Why would you allow your child there?

shari - 6-25-2010 at 07:01 AM

that's one of the crazy things about schooling here...they take the kids on field trips without any parental permission or warning...and also give vaccinations randomly too. I think the idea was to teach the wee ones that drugs are bad and the military is looking after the problem...they talk to the kids and show them the base too.

SiReNiTa - 6-25-2010 at 09:37 AM

In elementary school here they have tons of military base visits...
On flag day and any other national holiday pretty much, they never asked for permission slips or anything else.
And in my school they only took the fully uniformed kids, so I usually got "lucky"...

On the day that they took us to see the burning we were sitting on benches that were about 25-30 meters away from the fires and there would be pieces of aluminum foil blowing around...pretty weird but at least it was a day without math and history!!:light::light:

Iflyfish - 6-25-2010 at 10:07 AM

"pretty weird but at least it was a day without math and history!!"

A day with mota is a day with out history too! Makes one forget I hear.

As a kid I would welcome any field trip, didn't matter, and for the same reasons. Some things never change.

Like your quote.

fishabductor - 6-26-2010 at 08:11 AM

Why was the soldier guarding the burning weed in the first place..Did they actually think someone would actually dive into that fire to get some dirtweed?:spingrin:

and that video was funny, however I think it was staged
