Punta San Francisquito

Justabajabum - 7-6-2010 at 03:17 PM

Has anybody heard about a drug runner getting caught at San Francisquito with a giant panga full of drugs, shot and killed by the military encampment there, then hung on a cross for several days about mid-June? I have friends who were there spear-fishing just before and just after this was supposed to have occurred, but I have not found any news on this alleged event. Anyone?

elgatoloco - 7-6-2010 at 03:36 PM

I have not heard anything, yet.

Just a wild guess

Dave - 7-6-2010 at 03:45 PM

Was his name Jesús?

capt. mike - 7-6-2010 at 03:59 PM

there is no way in hades any legitimate federales are going to hang a dead perp on a cross after a shoot out.
that is ridiculous on the face.

where did you hear such garbage? come on.... really.:rolleyes:

Justabajabum - 7-6-2010 at 04:09 PM

I know...it is unbelievable to me too. If it were not for who I heard it from, I would never have entertained the possibility that it were true. But, these are doctor friends that regularly fly to PSF to spearfish, and are now terribly spooked to return. I will try to find out who THEY heard it from, but according to the doctor, the body was taken down June 17th on the morning that they arrived. They did not see the body themsleves, so they must be relying on someone there that told them this when they arrived...

Justabajabum - 7-6-2010 at 04:30 PM

Lol...ok...I just talked to my doctor friend.

He heard it from a guy named Howard, and American who lives there for weeks/months at a time. However, Howard apparently is a bit of a drinker...so my doctor friend is taking all of this with the proverbial "grain of salt"...

Anybody here know this "Howard" guy?...as he is apparently a bit of a fixture in PSF....

Stories allways get embellished with a "little" alcohol:lol:.

Howard

Curt63 - 7-6-2010 at 04:53 PM

I met Howard about a month ago at PTSFO. He is indeed a lively chap with no shortage of colorful tales!

What a coincidence, he was sippin on the hip flask the day I met him.

You may remember a story of the helicopter that flew in to the beach in front of the resort and 2 blondes popped out and went swimming. The other saucy details I added were from Howard.

I was not really sure about that story until the photo appeared here.

But what the hell, why let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Capt Mike, Howard used to work at Laguna Sea Sports in addition to a career as a commercial diver

capt. mike - 7-7-2010 at 07:21 AM

wow - i MIGHT have him on video from a trip there in the 80s.
i did a 20 minute infomercial which featured interviews with some LSS guys and a tour of the campo/facility. We were planning on doing 2-3 nite junkets for Genaro flying in adventure types.
it was a great biz plan until the liquor wore off.
i need to get that beta (gulp!) tape to El Camote so we can watch it on DVD...:lol::lol:

I've know Howard for 35 years!

I am glad to hear he is alive and well. As far as whether on not there is truth to this story I do not know. But I am proud to be a good friend of Howards!

who here (Ken Bondy for sure) recalls old Ed that lived at PSFO quietly for 17 years straight reading books and one day with no explanation left.
he was fun to talk to but he'd never tell you about himself.
we figured he was hiding from law or wife....

Mike,
Where did he live? In one of the houses nearby? Just curious.....

Ken Bondy - 7-9-2010 at 08:23 AM

I knew Ed pretty well although he was guarded about his past. I think he was a military pilot because he asked me several times to bring him a book on some aspect of military aircraft. He lived in a small house on the keyhole bay and had a little space behind the office that they let him use for his crafts and other stuff he kept there. He married one of the Mexican gals who worked in the kitchen, her name was Martha and she was a real sweetheart. I think at one time I knew his last name but I can't find it in my logs or my notes. I will try to dig up a picture of Ed.

Was this way before Javier and Chary ran the place?

Ken Bondy - 7-9-2010 at 08:43 AM

Pacifico this was from the late 70s through the late 80s.

desertcpl - 7-9-2010 at 08:58 AM

I meet ED maybe about 25 years ago,, I flew in with Jack Divine, he had a place there,, Jack one night told me Ed was living there because of statue of limitations , some thing that had happened I think in California

Ken Bondy - 7-9-2010 at 09:14 AM

desertcpl I knew Jack Devine well also. Used to love his fireside "bounty hunter" stories. He lived in Tijuana, flew a beautiful C-210. I once almost sunk his tin boat (which he let us use when he was not there). I made a too-tight high-speed turn. Fortunately I recovered just in time. Would hate to have had Jack hunting me down in Baja :).

jack

desertcpl - 7-9-2010 at 09:48 AM

the last time I saw jack was when I was living in PV, jack had just repo'd the chief of police truck, he was with his traveling companion Carmin (a real looker) this was in the late afternoon, Carmin didnt drive and Jack couldnt drive at night, Jack needed to get out of town real fast, so he hired me to drive him back to TJ

Ken Bondy - 7-9-2010 at 05:21 PM

Speaking of San Francisquito old-timers, anybody remember this photo, hanging in the bar, of the original owners Leonard Martinez and Rudy Vallodolid? Rudy was Genaro's dad:

Ken

desertcpl - 7-9-2010 at 06:13 PM

I must say, that pix is not ringing a bell with me , maybe in the morning I might

Ken Bondy - 7-9-2010 at 06:55 PM

desertcpl

It hung in the bar for a long time. I think it was gone the last time I was there, which was about 6 years ago.

desertcpl - 7-9-2010 at 07:22 PM

okay,, maybe I had to many when I was at the bar, but it still is not coming back to me,,

we only went over to the bar one afternoon,, rest of the time we spent at Jacks place, which was at the fish camp, jack had an Airstream trailer and he had built next to it , block banos and a big room that I sleep in, also used for storage

Here is Genero standing in front of the picture about 20 years ago.
There were many interesting photos on the wall including thousands of business cards left by visitors. The bar was open to the weather so nothing lasted too long.

The plot thickens into some good PSFO history!! Here's a picture I took in July of 1980. Note that the picture of Leonard and Rudy is NOT there. So desertcpl, it might not be the margaritas!! BTW the pretty lady in front of the bar, facing me, is mi esposa.

David K - 7-9-2010 at 08:25 PM

When I was the manager of an irrigation store back in 1980-82, in La Mesa... Someone from Punta San Francisquito Resort bought a drip irrigation system for watering the landscape around some of the casas down there.

Ken Bondy - 7-9-2010 at 09:29 PM

David that was probably for either Leonard's or Rudy's house. They built beautiful homes at both ends of the beach, one on the north point and one on the south point. They were both built at about the same time.

Awesome guys! Anymore old pics?

capt. mike - 7-10-2010 at 07:20 AM

Ken - that picture of the resort founders evoked strong memories!
and yes it hung there for a long time but it has been gone for over a dozen years. possibly the COOLEST photo i have ever seen in mexico - Genaro used to point at it and say that's my Dad and Uncle, with gleaming pride!

you might recall that about 12 or more years ago all the bar pics and memorabilia was taken down to bare walls - i was devastated when we showed up with clients shortly after they did that and i wanted to show it off to my friends with us.
Genaro was not there that weekend and Pepe had no explanation except that they were going to "change" and "remodel" the place!! whaaaaat????????? were they thinking????????

i think it all got boxed up and taken to the states due to a scquabble amongst the owners.

remember the pics of those HUGH black sea bass taken by spear off Lorenzo??!! man those were the days. i think i have it all on vid i need to get the beta to El Camote for editing.
i think i'll do that next week - i want to post it on Vimeo for you.

cpg - 7-13-2010 at 12:11 PM

Was there a week ago and there are a few new photos in the kitchen. But all of the pictures in there are gone. Even the picture that were there last November. They are working on the Shower on the mens side.

Anyway, a couple of people I ran into remember you Ken. One was Jose, a shark fisherman. When asked he said "Do you mean the Ken senior or the Ken junior?". I replied Ken junior of course knowing how touchy we get about our age after 50 (ha, ha). Told me you haven't been to PSFO in almost 15 years.

Curt, are you the same fella we ran into on that dusty road to PSFO about a month ago (near the turnoff to Las Animas)? The guy that gave us a Kastmaster in exchange for a halibut back in January? You had an old dog that loved PSFO and I asked you "How do you know".

If so, then we can finally exchange emails as we intended, but never did.

Curt63 - 7-13-2010 at 03:27 PM

It wasnt me, but I'll take any halibut you cant eat.

Skipjack Joe - 7-13-2010 at 07:06 PM

Dang!

You shoulda told me. We didn't even know what to do with this one. Back he went.

The one we ate just before this one, though, was real good. I didn't appreciate how good halibut sashimi is until that fish. The flesh was so soft it was falling apart as I cleaned it. Soft meat makes good sashimi, I've decided.
