Well, it happened this morning at 1:57 am... My 'baby' girl Sarah had a baby...
Baby and mom are A-OK! Savannah weighed in at 6 pounds, even.

Sarah just texted, she is getting ready for a nap... I guess she never got to sleep after baby came and we left. So, I will hold off visiting until
later...Eli - 8-24-2010 at 12:27 PM
Ay David, mucho felizidades, being a grandpa will be the cherry on the sundae of your life!AmoPescar - 8-24-2010 at 12:35 PM
David,
Wow...hard to believe little Sarah is now a Mom herself! Seems like just yesterday that she was a skinny little kid traveling along with you in Baja.
I know you and Elizabeth will be great Grandparents. Enjoy your time with them!
Michael
David K - 8-24-2010 at 12:39 PM
So different seeing her holding a baby... when it was just a 'few' years ago she was in Baja, holding a rattlesnake!
Or, hiking around the sulfur mine with dad...
Or visiting old mission ruins...
Again with the rattlesnakes!??
Not thinking dad was funny when I told her the El Volcan geyser could erupt any second, as she got in for a close up at the top!
In 2001 with elgatoloco (Matt) and El Camote:
Nope, my Sarah isn't the little girl anymore... as captured by Bedman at Las Hamacas, Bahia de los Angeles, 2002...
She's a mommy now!

Grand kids are a wonderful thing, if I had only known I would have had them first.
Ok, now the fun begins. Just think of all the great fun stuff you get to buy for her. Every kid is a budding musician, buy her a whistle first, heck
any kid can play a whistle. There are lots of fun things that she can have on a long road trip such as, a Jew's harp or harmonica. I accidentally
found the perfect distraction for my grand kids for that long road trip, those plastic balls with the string between them that you bounce up and
down.....what a racket....my kids love me, the grand kids even more. The fun part is that they are old enough now to get what I'm up to and back me up
all the way.....what fun, finally getting even with the kids.
Enjoy.......dtKeri - 8-24-2010 at 07:15 PM
Congrats to the grandparents and the new parents and baby. Fantastic, now the fun starts David, Enjoy, kBAJACAT - 8-24-2010 at 07:53 PM

Wow, both mommy and baby look amazing! I'm glad everything went well, I had her in my thoughts and prayers since my mamma told me she had gone in to
labor and I'm super happy to know that there is a new little soul that inhabits this world.
I hope to see the whole family very soon so we can share our little bundles of joy (and poop )

Now the cycle continues. I wonder when new baby's first introduction to Baja will happen?
[Edited on 8-25-2010 by Gypsy Jan]David K - 8-25-2010 at 03:31 PM
Thanks... We understand the hospital will let them come home today, maybe around 4?
Sarah and Baby Savannah are both doing great... super healthy!
Sarah was talking to me about taking the baby to Baja just last weekend! I think when they are out of diapers is a good time to begin, as it was when
thir mother and I took our kids to Baja the first time.
My kids' mother and I were both 'raised' on Baja trips... Their mother's parents loved L.A. Bay and camped at La Gringa since the 70's. We met each
other in Baja, and when we had kids took them to Baja... You all have seen the photos from almost 20 years ago.
Sarah and Will need to get passports (when do babies need a passport?) first... to make it easier to cross back... But the baby will be going to
Baja... Grandpa has got to show her how to four wheel drive and search for 'Lost Missions' afterall!bajalera - 8-25-2010 at 04:20 PM

The baby will need a passport when she goes to Baja, no matter how young. My grandaughters both have them and have since they were only months old. They
have both Us and Mex. passports.
More congrat's on the new...

...addition to the 'K' clan...!
Our '1st', was also a Granddaughter - a real joy for Pat & I...
Pat fondly remembers the Playa Mazatlan/Matomi trip where Sara was riding a horse around the beach...now Sara's 'all growed up'...
Happy days ahead, Granddad...The fun's just beginning...

Thanks for that... interesting that babies can get passports so soon.
The new family went home from the hospital last night... I am waiting to hear how the first night went!
P.S. That is nice, thanks... do you think she looks like Baja Angel?? Idon't have any photos of her mother online, I don't think.
I took this photo last May when they were shopping for maternity clothes...

Yup... that photo was in Discover Baja's magazine in the story about Inky the lost dog... we found on the road to Mision Santa Maria in 2003... Sarah
was 12 1/2 then.
I am sure glad that my kids and I could share some great times in Baja together before they grew up... It was some special bonding time as it was just
the three of us for several years...
Talked to Sarah today and she says the baby is doing great, never cries, and she is so super happy that she has her... It was great to hear how she is
bonding with Savannah. I have a cold and it is killing me to not be there every day... but it is good to give the new family some space.Neal Johns - 8-29-2010 at 07:15 AM

Grandkids are something very special that you never really understand until your time comes around to play the role of gramma / grampa. When those
little eyes look up to you and call out your name you know you have passed another major point in life, in which nothing will ever be the same. Salud
to you DavidK, Shari and all the lucky ones here who have been blessed with that important and rewarding role in life.

Savannah has been doing great... and I got to spend a couple hours with here and Sarah yesterday... Here is a photo from my cell phone as she is
almost ready to start crawling! She has been rolling to move about the past couple of weeks but yesterday she was getting up on all fours and on her
hands and knees like this... ready to move on! (She is pointed towards Baja in this photo, too)

My little girl's little girl is growing up fast (why is time speeding up?)!

David K - 8-22-2020 at 08:24 AM
In a couple days, my granddaughter will be 10 years old. Just an amazing thing the way time goes by faster the older you get!
With the Covid craziness, we have not had Savannah for a visit since February, and a couple of weeks ago, we had a new grandson born to Elizabeth's
daughter (welcome Trevor)... That makes five grandkids now, 4 boys and Savannah is the only girl!
Savannah and I have been having a great visit this week while my wife (Baja Angel) was helping with the new baby down in San Diego. Some photos taken
here yesterday of (almost) 10-year-old Savannah...
Lucky am I... having a granddaughter is like reliving the joy of my daughter at that age...
Thanks for letting me share my fortune with you all.
