Assuming one catches lots of tuna, how do you get the meat back? Does the boat bring it back to San Diego or? Do they bring it back to Loreto and

Hola, yes, j.j. runs a very nice operation. i fished it in san diego for the tuna and santa barbara, ca. for white seabass and yellowtail when he
moves the boat north in the off season in san diego and cleaning fish is legal in ca.
i'm not sure if the appolo cleans the fish on the boats but usually, they are in mexican waters and according to mexican law, they may not clean fish
in mexican waters. some of the short range boats DO clean the fish and put them in refrigerated holds as they do all the fish, cleaned or not.
upon return to san diego, they off load the fish and there are fish processors that will do the cleaning and packing as they do in baja sur. if you
have the time, you can have it professionally smoked as well. they have it down to an art as in baja.
if you're flying back to baja, it's usually about a 3 hour flight and your fish will be fine in ice chests. i don't believe you can have ice in the
ice chests, probably the same as going home with fish from baja, and for sure, you may not carry dry ice as it emits a gas, carbon dioxide, i believe.
if you're driving, just layer the fish...ice, fish, ice fish, etc. they also sell ice at the fishing docks so everything is convenient.
unfortunately, they do not have self fish cleaning areas and if they did, i am sure it would be one huge mess !
in the recent past, i have done quite a bit of fishing up to 5 day trips and my son did 9 day long range trips, then....he got married !!! that was
the end of that !

I have fished with J.J. for years both on overnights and 5 days. He runs a very tight operation. J.J. was the first guy to go ultra limited load on
five day trips. Fishing The Apollo with 10 on board is just the best. Good food, great crew, a capital captain with lots of room.
He was one of the first guys to convert Refrigerated Salt Water in his holds. All fish are spiked and bleed as soon as they come over the side. His

Hola, don jorge, what kind of trip are we discussing here ? is the boat leaving from san diego and if so, in the past, they always off load the fish
at the docks in san diego.
even the fly down and back from long range trips bring the fish back unless something has changed recently.

yeah...it really is a problem with not having enough ice on the hotel boats or any way of refrigeration on most baja pangas and cruisers. people can
and do get sick as we did in loreto in the mid-80's. after our bad incident, when they were not reinforcing the no fish cleaning aboard boats, we bled
our fish and within the hour, they were filleted, ziplocked and put in the ice chest.
body bags are expensive and cumbersome to bring down and unfortunately, most skippers cannot afford to provide them to their customers. but...THEY ARE
GREAT and can keep your fish cold with just one bag of ice. better with more ice as i believe you can gut your fish, not fillet and then stuff ice in
the cavity.
last year, they started enforcing the law and were ticketing and confiscating boats and equipment for the infraction. so mostly, none of the boats
will fillet the fish out on the water for you as i believe the skipper has consequenses as well.
