Unique volunteer opportunity
Melóncoyote is a grassroots (or citizen) journalism project run entirely by volunteers that gives local Mexicans, mainly young people, the opportunity
to write about environmental issues important to their communities. To read the bulletin, in Spanish or English, visit: http://www.meloncoyote.org
I’m looking for individuals with a good working knowledge of Spanish to help me with the translation to English of the monthly environmental bulletin
that carries news about northwest Mexico (including the Baja peninsula). Most articles are about 500-750 words long.
As the bulletin has grown in size over the first 4 issues (from 4-16 pages), I have found it harder to produce the translation by myself in a timely
fashion, create all of the HTML documents for the Website (in both languages) and still get work done on my own projects, not to mention sleeping and
resting every now and then!
I would love to bring together a group of dedicated volunteers to participate in this project as a “grassroots translation team”, to give a broader
voice to these Mexican journalists.

I´ve already got two volunteers, between the Nomads posting and a mailing to a group of Spanish language aficionados I belong to. Believe me, any
amount of help is appreciated because I really do like to sleep and rest - a lot!

Is Google Translator too comical to work with? For some it's a good base to work with.

No computer translation programs allowed for this project!
People often use these as a starting point, but I don´t even bother as it is mostly garbage coming out.
However, I do highly recommend that people use google or yahoo or whatever search engine they prefer to research specific phrases in either language
to see if acceptable translations appear elsewhere. I do this all the time and find it very handy, especially with doubts about use of prepositions
in a particular phrase. I also use online dictionaries and the dictionary.com forums to answer vocabulary questions.
